M&S hot cross buns

Sagittariusrising · 04/04/2023 16:14

Just been looking at the M&S website at the various hot cross bun flavours they have this year.

I love their luxury traditional hot cross buns but has anyone tried any of the other flavours this year? I like the look of banoffee and the bramley apple ones in particular.

All hot cross buns should be toasted... whatever the flavour! The cheesy ones are amazing 😋

afaloren · 04/04/2023 17:24

The apple ones are lovely.

The apple and banoffee ones are lovely

I like the sound of the apple ones. Not sure about the savoury buns, though.

The cheese ones are lovely. Tesco are also doing some very nice cheese and caramelised onion ones too!

Cuwins · 04/04/2023 17:38

Another vote for the apple ones- amazing. I also like the chocolate ones but haven't tried any of the others

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/04/2023 17:45

I live next to an M&S food so have tried a few as they're often reduced of an evening. I don't think they're anything special to be honest and am always a bit nonplussed when I do pick them up hoping they'll be the next best thing ever year when they bring out new iterations.

The chocolate was a bit odd tasting and sickly - would rather just have something that was actually chocolate.

Apple- quite nice to be fair but I probably wouldn't buy again at full price. To me it tasted a bit like their iced and spiced buns.

Cheese- OK but you may as well just have a cheese scone, (m&s ones are lovely and far nicer!)

I refuse to try them. A hot cross bun is a hot cross bun. If you don’t like dried fruit then eat something else!

Exactly.
The advert on telly for them makes me feel sick. I mean who puts egg and bacon Hot Cross Buns? The cheese one looks revolting, even worse is the Banoffee one, it looked like the dressing from an infected foot I once had.
Why mess about with perfection?

emmathedilemma · 04/04/2023 17:52

@Daffodilsandtuplips OMG I've not seen that advert (thankfully!!).

StellaAndCrow · 04/04/2023 17:52

The Bramley Apple ones are vegan, if anyone is vegan themselves or catering for a vegan. And they're very nice.

RuthW · 04/04/2023 17:53

I love the cheese ones. The blueberry are ok

Living next to an M&S sounds like heaven ☺️

Yes, that's two people on this thread who had the good sense to live near an M+S food; I wish I'd thought of it!

whoruntheworldgirls · 04/04/2023 18:12

Toaster with salted butter, the best 😄

mynameiscalypso · 04/04/2023 18:23

The cheese ones hot and with some chilli jam are pretty much my idea of perfection. I also like to freeze them and then defrost them in the microwave so you have warm, squish hot cross buns of deliciousness

I've been buying the apple ones for years, it's a favorite in this house. So moist and yummy!

I don't mind the banoffee one, I eat it warm, not cold.

Wishimaywishimight · 04/04/2023 18:37

Banoffi are delicious!

Sagittariusrising · 04/04/2023 20:13

Thanks everyone for your recommendations!

Sounds like the Apple ones are favourites so I'll grab a pack of those with some originals too. I haven't seen any savoury ones but thanks to the Tesco recommendation I might try there.

We'll likely get pasted but I agree 100%.

Hbh17 · 04/04/2023 20:24

I only eat traditional hot cross buns. They are lovely, and I don't understand the need to muck about with them. All these other flavours sound horrible.

smi135 · 04/04/2023 20:46

The new banofee hot cross buns arr the best I've tasted

WildFlowerBees · 04/04/2023 20:47

Waitrose clementine are lovely.

PickAChew · 04/04/2023 20:50

I can confirm that the gluten free ones are quite acceptable. A little too sweet for me but the texture is nice enough.

Not tried the rest.

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 04/04/2023 20:50

As my username suggests, I can confirm the Bramley apple ones are amazing! [grid]

ouch44 · 04/04/2023 20:53

I've been shouting at the M&S advert today! Stop messing with the Hot Cross Buns!!

We live 5 mins walk from a Simply Food. My DH bought home Salted Caramel and Red Velvet HCBs!! And no traditional. May never forgive him! I tried a red velvet one. It was weird. Very cakey
