Anyone up? Feeling very sick at MILs

Thisiscollie23 · 04/04/2023 00:03

I'm just in bed.. at MILs, 7 hours away from home. Everyone is asleep. The one toilet is next to their bedroom & if I start being sick I'll wake everyone up (for some reason I'm a loud puker!) This is a TINY 3 bed house...

I don't want to wake DH or DS as they're sharing the 7 hour drive home tomorrow. We leave at 10am.

Anyone have any tips for getting asleep? Easing nausea? Easing heart burn!? (I think it's heart burn triggering nausea)

Ahhhh

Anything in the medicine cabinet, eg Gaviscon ?

NormaTheWife · 04/04/2023 00:05

Dry cracker or two.

Thisiscollie23 · 04/04/2023 00:08

I've tried gaviscon :( I had the last couple

In extremis I try and sleep in a sitting position which helps.
And if salivating, spitting into a tissue instead of swallowing can stop vomiting…

TwoMonthsOff · 04/04/2023 00:12

IME heartburn/reflux if it is causing nausea won’t ease up until you actually vomit, and once you start salivating best get to the toilet ASAP there wont be any stopping it plus you will feel a lot better once it’s over. I Realise it’s quite embarrassing though surely your relations will be concerned that you aren’t feeling well.
hope you feel better soon OP

Helllooo · 04/04/2023 00:12

Try sleeping on your left hand side

keverne · 04/04/2023 00:12

Sip some milk to counteract acid reflux. Go and sit up somewhere/ prop yourself up on pillows. Open the window, I find cold helps. Travel sickness pills?

Clymene · 04/04/2023 00:12

Go to the kitchen, get a bowl. Sit and puke downstairs in the bowl.

CC4712 · 04/04/2023 00:15

I too was going to suggest getting a plastic bin, or bowl. Line with paper and use as a vomit bowl if needed in the bedroom- rather than the bathroom which will echo! Or go to the lounge/away from bedrooms to vomit in the bowl.

MeinKraft · 04/04/2023 00:16

Yeah maybe go for a walk down the garden and boke in the flower bed to see if some fresh air will help.

Thisiscollie23 · 04/04/2023 00:21

Thanks everyone! I hate this!!

I've had gastritis last year and just last week looked at my omeprazole and thought "oooh good job I haven't needed that for over a year!" and didn't pack any...

I've never actually had heart burn before! It's bloody horrible!

I'd totally do this but I'm somehow quite scared of their garden at night. 😂 it backs onto a large spooky area that sometimes attracts dodgy people...

I can't wait to go home!!

You need to sleep propped up, don't lay down flat that'll make it worse, sounds like heart burn rather than a sick bug

TomatoSandwiches · 04/04/2023 00:25

I had this last night and ended up toddling downstairs to throw up in the kitchen bin, didn't wake anyone and felt much better afterwards.

AdaColeman · 04/04/2023 00:31

Put a couple of your pillows in an inverted V shape behind your back, it will help keep you upright, but you should be comfortable enough to sleep.

If you get up, have a slice of dry toast or a plain biscuit, often eating something helps settle an acid stomach.

Hope you feel better soon.

Barleysugar86 · 04/04/2023 00:34

Ginger is good for nausea, including ginger biscuits, or mint tea with sugar (Moroccans swear by this, I was skeptical until I tried it!) Or I found an ice lolly helped with heartburn when I was pregnant.

EssexMamisoa · 04/04/2023 03:04

Agree with finger biscuits. Or a lemonade

EssexMamisoa · 04/04/2023 03:04

Ginger*

GreenIsle · 04/04/2023 03:15

Glass of milk can help ease heartburn

Thisiscollie23 · 04/04/2023 07:24

Thanks everyone!! Ginger biscuits and sitting upright really helped. I actually slept quite well in the end.

I've just woken up and feel pretty terrible so hoping I can get home ASAP.

7 hours in the car!! Ahhhhh

Milk doesn't ease heartburn, it actually makes it last longer! To digest the fat in it, you need larger amounts of acid so it aggravates it. Feels nice though, I do agree there, but water is technically best!

CarPoor · 04/04/2023 07:32

Would you really be happy if someone came to your house and actively chose to vomit in your kitchen bin or your garden rather than the perfectly accessible toilet. Chose to vomit in a random bowl from your cupboard on your sofa with all the possible splashing and not the bathroom?

You'd still have to tell them the next day, plus be faced with cleaning up in the morning. Just vomit in the toilet ffs. I'd rather you woke me up than presented me with a vomited in bin

I hope you make it home today OP and start to feel better soon.

Squirrelsnut · 04/04/2023 07:33

You poor thing. I once arrived at MILs with the beginnings of horrendous diarrhoea which lasted hours. Sooo embarrassing..

AllIeveknewonlyou · 04/04/2023 10:58

Sympathies!

I has the same thing last night (except I was actually sick) and am also supposed to travel today.

At least I can keep down water now and the headache is gone!

Thisiscollie23 · 04/04/2023 12:56

Thanks you lovely people! I was sick after my morning coffee (predictable) - I wasn't so embarrassed as everyone was awake and the sound of my vomiting was concealed by the usual household noises and TV.

I felt better afterwards but now I have a migraine. Which I often get so I've taken my migraine meds and coke cola. Coke Cola has triggered nausea again and I'm in a car in the middle of the country 😂 4hours away from home!

I asked MIL if she had a bowl as she has a brand new kitchen with a new sink and dishwasher & she wont let anyone do the dishes. No bowl. Nothing.
