What would you do with a day completely to yourself?

My children are abroad, my DH is working and I am on school holidays as a term-time only worker. I have an entire day off tomorrow with no plans at all and nobody around (all my friends are working or off with their kids or on holiday!).

I don’t know what to do with myself but I know I don’t want to waste it.

What would you do?!

Stress out that I should be doing something else, regardless of if I’m enjoying whatever I am doing.

Ilovecrumpetseveryday · 03/04/2023 19:56

Spend ages deciding, should I rest? Should I sort that cupboard out? Should I start paint the downstairs loo? The day is then gone and wasted with little achieved. Every time!

Botw1 · 03/04/2023 19:57

Fuck about on mumsnet apparently

SpaghettifingerFusillitoe · 03/04/2023 19:57

Go for a run first thing so I could slob all day guilt free. Binge tv then bath, face pack, nap mid afternoon

Stripycatz · 03/04/2023 19:58

I had a day to myself today. I had a mini lie in. Went out for breakfast (I'm on holiday). Had a lie down 😁 and did a bit of mumsnetting. Then went charity shopping, ate out for tea, and am now having another lie down before a night walk to look at the stars (hopefully).

@cassiatwenty

Waiting very impatiently for the new 1!

Namechange567775 · 03/04/2023 20:05

The dream!! For me, I’d start with a long run, with no obligation to take the dog, or baby in the running pushchair, or get home for anything and cut it short.
Then, long shower, moisturise etc and huge brunch and coffee.
Potter about in the kitchen with some new recipe books.
Meet a friend for a couple of drinks late afternoon.
Home, dinner - either sushi or a burger - with a really nice bottle of Sancerre, early night with a book. Bliss!

Cry with delight then enjoy the peace.

TakingMilesFromInches · 03/04/2023 20:06

I’d get up and go for a run with the dogs. Shower. Have a leisurely breakfast, tidy up and read a book for a couple of hours. Go out for lunch and have a wonder around some shops. Home to walk the dogs, order a takeaway and watch films with a couple of glasses of something nice.

Me too, I can't wait to see it and play it. About time. Some bloody boring games recently

Lolaandbehold · 03/04/2023 20:15

I have one on Monday. I reckon I’ll have a lie in, tidy a bit of my house, until I get bored, watch some TV and do some work and life admin. A bit sad really. I’ll also probably dick about on mumsnet for a while and then wondering why I’m wasting my life on social media.

Botw1 · 03/04/2023 20:15

I'm not a big gamer tbg, pretty much stick to zelda and Mario lol

This is exactly what I've done today ☺️

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/04/2023 20:25

Go to the gym, have lunch there, call friends on their lunch hour and have a catch up, binge watch a few comedy series - order a takeaway

I'm going to do this tomorrow

Iamblossom · 03/04/2023 20:29

Although l'll run with the dogs as I can't bear their sad eyes if I don't take them

Multipleexclamationmarks · 03/04/2023 20:31

Mini lie in
brew in peace
maybe clean up a little
Take myself to the cinema
then to a coffee shop for cake

Namechange567775 · 03/04/2023 20:41

So jealous!
We said goodbye to one of our dogs today so actually I probably would take the other one now - but on the dream ideal day she won’t stop for a pop every half mile!

Namechange567775 · 03/04/2023 20:41

oops, the above reply to @Iamblossom !

Very sorry for your doggy loss 😔

I had a great day today. I have been planning this for ages and the weather was sunny in my back garden so I bit the bullet and cleaned my shed out. I emptied all the shit everything out and washed the floor, cleaned the windows and wiped the racks. Then I cleaned the garden tools and put all the good stuff back on hooks and in places where I can easily access them.
It feels good to be in control a little.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 03/04/2023 20:49

I have a day off every three weeks from work.

I do something for me (like a run/swim/coffee date), something for the house or family (like making a big cottage pie and some cakes or biscuits) and something from the “never really gets done” list like washing the car or oiling garden furniture.

I like a bit if structure and progress.

But that’s because I have this pretty frequently - if it was a one-off day it would be all about me

And ‘pop’ should be ‘poo’, fat fingers today!

thank you ❤️ she was the best, but it was her time. Very sad day.

APurpleSquirrel · 03/04/2023 20:57

I had a day off to myself today & spent it at a willow sculpture course - was fab, learnt a new skill, got lunch provided, beautiful setting & my own piece of sculpture to take home.
