What would you do with a day completely to yourself?

MrsTWH · 03/04/2023 19:52

My children are abroad, my DH is working and I am on school holidays as a term-time only worker. I have an entire day off tomorrow with no plans at all and nobody around (all my friends are working or off with their kids or on holiday!).

I don’t know what to do with myself but I know I don’t want to waste it.

What would you do?!

Go to the gym
Swim
Sauna & steam
Lunch
Bit of shopping
Park/beach/etc to read new book
Home for a takeaway
Film

Garden if weather nice. Go for a swim in the sea.
Buy a nice ready meal and decent bottle of wine for dinner. Enjoy the peace

nofilteronme · 03/04/2023 21:05

Weather is meant to be good here tomorrow so I'd go for a nice long walk and stop somewhere for coffee. Walk back via my grandparents house so I can stop in and say hi.

I'd have to do something useful at home too otherwise I'd feel guilty- even if it's just a load of washing.

Maybe binge watch something.

gabsdot45 · 03/04/2023 22:04

I'd clean the house so I can relax and enjoy my day. I'd go for a nice walk and get something nice easy food in Then I'd do a jigsaw or some sewing while listening to an audio book. Then I'd watch a movie or box set in bed after dinner
Heaven

Go to the seaside and watch the tide. Eat a fish and chips supper then return home.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 03/04/2023 22:32

I would lie in, spend ages having “real tea” from a pot, take the dog for a nice long walk, go for a swim followed by a sauna, come home for lunch and a nap. After that I would read with more tea and order an indulgent dinner that evening with a glass of Rosé.
Enjoy your day whatever you do.

Nowthatlovehasperished · 03/04/2023 22:58

I would go to a yoga class fist thing. Come home and make myself a nice brunch. Have a shower and then a quick Power Nap. Maybe something productive around the house for a couple of hours listening to podcasts. Go to some charity shops for a book hunt. Walk the dog and make myself my favourite dinner. Watch film and early night.

Daisychainsandglitter · 04/04/2023 06:12

I would get on a train to London and enjoy a lovely day out.

AwaaFaeHom · 04/04/2023 06:20

Yesterday I rearranged my kitchen.

Today I might clean the oven.

And yes, I'm reading this back thinking 'when the fuck did this become my life'??? 😂

WildAloofRebel · 03/04/2023 19:53

Stress out that I should be doing something else, regardless of if I’m enjoying whatever I am doing.

This is my problem too. I long for days to myself and then when it happens I can't just enjoy my own time.

Timeturnerplease · 04/04/2023 06:48

Lie in, read and do bugger all about the list of jobs - they can be done any old weekend.

Rayna37 · 04/04/2023 07:09

A big day out at one of the nearest cities (under an hour by train or car) including a nice lunch, plenty of time to root around the charity shops and the big shops we don't have, and a museum/gallery ideally too.

Or if I had really nothing to buy I might have a combo of gym/swim and then some proper cleaning/clear out a cupboard/do a charity shop run etc!

FusionChefGeoff · 04/04/2023 07:18

Mix of pleasure and productivity:

Pick a BIG job I've been putting off eg decluttering / DIY / garden and attack it in the morning
Get in some food for a slap up brunch with a lovely coffee (or take myself out for it) and a luxury tapas / picky tea
Gym including all the stretching / physio exercises I never have time for
Swim & steam
Home for maybe a bath & book
Book & cuppa
Weepy movie
Bed

specialk9 · 04/04/2023 07:26

Oh how lovely. Enjoy!

I would get up early and go for a run.
When home I'd have the biggest cup of tea whilst running a bath. I'd bathe for an hour, in silence! I'd go for a treatment at my local beauty place, use the spa and have lunch there with a glass of champagne and a book. I'd try and catch up with a friend if possible, have a mooch around the shops.
Home, shower then meet DH for dinner and a few drinks.

LaDamaDeElche · 04/04/2023 07:34

Have a lie in and if I was feeling energetic I'd get up and exercise, otherwise I'd have a nice leisurely breakfast and read a magazine or watch a bit of morning TV. Would probably arrange a lunch or something with friends or maybe go shopping in the afternoon. Might have a siesta at home late afternoon, then a bath and a face mask or something, then finish off with a glass of wine and a book. Sounds perfect! I need to do this soon 😁

gkd1234 · 04/04/2023 07:58

Jump on a train to my nearest big city (London for me), visit an art gallery, treat myself to a posh sandwich from Pret and have a mooch around. Home for a bath and an early night to read in bed.

Stripycatz · 03/04/2023 19:58

I had a day to myself today. I had a mini lie in. Went out for breakfast (I'm on holiday). Had a lie down 😁 and did a bit of mumsnetting. Then went charity shopping, ate out for tea, and am now having another lie down before a night walk to look at the stars (hopefully).

This! Sounds lovely 😊

Stripycatz · 04/04/2023 14:06

I'm having another day to myself today. I've had an early start, breakfast cooked for me, then a hill walk. Back for tea and cake, then a rest on the bed with a bit of mumsnetting.
Going for a mooch round the village and a walk along the river this afternoon followed by tea out and an early night.
Back to reality tomorrow.

Iamblossom · 04/04/2023 20:35

So my day was a run in the sunshine with dogs, back for yoga and weights, and breakfast, long shower. Picked up DS from his friend's, practiced my piano, then went for a mooch at a garden centre with my dad and had coffee and a scone with jam and cream.

Home for the latest episode of Succession and lamb stew cooked by DH. A strong Tuesday. Smile

HAF1119 · 04/04/2023 20:38

I'd love to think I would - get hair done, but if pampering, maybe even a massage, catch up on some life admin while having some sofa time

What I've actually done when this opportunity arises - watched some tv on sofa and fallen asleep while it's on, suddenly realised the time and had a bath... that's it

It was still good though I felt rested!

Lcb123 · 04/04/2023 20:40

I have this on Thursday! My work is closed but DH is working, I’m getting train to London for the day, I have a list of exhibitions to go to, then a couple of wine bars, then have a theatre ticket for the evening

Catsmere · 01/05/2023 08:57

Botw1 · 03/04/2023 19:57

Fuck about on mumsnet apparently

😆😆😆

TheGirlWhoLived · 01/05/2023 09:09

Wake up, nice breakfast somewhere, clean the house (usually takes about an hour or so to give it a decent once over) then I would sit on my arse and finish my re-do of Zelda before the next one comes out in under 2 weeks!!

Catsmere · 01/05/2023 09:17

A day completely to myself would mean not needing to get back to look after my mother or my cats, so it isn’t going to happen. But if I did have such a day, maybe I’d go on a long drive, say to Ballarat, which I’ve never done before.

SallyWD · 01/05/2023 09:32

This is a real treat! On the rare occasions I have a day to myself I go for a walk in the morning, maybe do some light gardening or the bare minimum house chores. I might go out for lunch or prepare something lovely at home. I rarely watch TV usually so I'm the afternoon I'll lie on the sofa with chocolates and watch a couple of films or a murder series. Then bath, early night with my book.
