Lost passport, HELP!!!

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:17

I have read so many threads on here about lost passports, but I’m just at a loss as to what to do.
I’m due to go on our belated honeymoon to Thailand on Thursday, but cannot find my passport.

I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking, even got my parents round to help as a fresh pair of eyes.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, every bag, coat, drawer (drawers pulled all the way out and the underneaths etc checked) in every single cupboard and drawer, under the microwave, washing machine etc.

I last had it about a month ago as we went to Venice for 2 nights, took a 15 minute taxi from the airport to home, have called the airport and taxi and nothing has been handed in. All I can think is that I must have thrown it out!!

I need a 7 day fast track appointment (will of course miss my flight, but some honeymoon is better than none), but worried about the strikes happening from tomorrow.

Has anyone got any recent experience of going to the passport office for an immediate passport?

I’m sick to my stomach 😩

I have no helpful advice, but wanted to wish you good luck in getting this sorted.

There's nothing more frustrating than trying to find something so utterly lost.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/04/2023 20:31

Suitcases?
Under mattresses?
Loft?
Inside other files/ folders of paperwork, even ones that aren't related to holidays?
Inside shoe boxes?
Knicker drawer?
Inside books on shelves?

I've hidden my passport before and then forgotten where it was - turns out you have to pay very close attention when hiding stuff!

lifeissweet · 02/04/2023 20:34

Did you have any books with you? A Guide book or something you were reading at the time? I found my passport inside a book once as I'd carried them off the plane and put one inside the other.

Otherwise, good luck. It's such a horrible feeling. I hope you can get it replaced quickly.

whatyoulookingfor · 02/04/2023 20:34

Oh shit. Do you have travel insurance, that might cover this.

NoEffingWay · 02/04/2023 20:37

I once hid 100 euros somewhere so safe I didn't find them for almost 5 years. It drove me mad as I had been on holiday about 3 times and could have used that money but clearly my brain thought a box of plasters was a safe place 😤

I guess that was a nice little unexpected compensation for a cut finger, though.

Lastnamedidntstick · 02/04/2023 20:39

I found mine on the printer once where I’d photocopied it for travel docs…

one of mine went missing years ago. Never did find it….

Barleysugar86 · 02/04/2023 20:40

I had this. Had to fast track replace too. Turned out I'd given it to a housemate to go pick up a parcel for me and they'd forgotten to return it/ I'd forgotten to ask for it back.

Redpriestandmozart · 02/04/2023 20:42

Have you used it for ID and filed it away with your birth certificate?

Bunnyhascovidnoteggs · 02/04/2023 20:47

Look at your Venice photos. Then go check the clothes in your wardrobe /drawers you took with you..
Did you totally unpack the case? Take a pair of sunglasses? - check that case..

JustCheck · 02/04/2023 20:50

Which handbag did you use for Venice

listsandbudgets · 02/04/2023 20:50

So the last place you definitely had it was as you passed through immigration as you entered the UK.

Try to envisage it in your mind. What were you wearing? A coat or hoody? Have you checked pockets? A rucksack or handbag you don't normally use day to day but keep for travelling? Outer pocket of suitcase? Your husbands coat and bag. Could you have passed it to him? What did you do when you got home? Slump on sofa, go to bed.. check again down back of sofa, down side and back of bed

NoEffingWay · 02/04/2023 20:52

As a last resort I would go back to that faffy bit at the airport and remember what coat I was wearing, what bag I had on etc etc and try and replicate your journey back.

Does your DH have his passport? Were they likely to have been kept together or did you keep it in your bag?

And then I would give up and get a new one. Flowers

wishuponastar1988 · 02/04/2023 20:53

I was convinced I had thrown mine out and then found it down the back of some drawers - it must've fallen there before I had chance to put it away properly! Hope you find it

bcalice · 02/04/2023 20:56

I’m certain I haven’t left the house with it since coming home 5 weeks ago, I’ve check my photos, emails and calendar and I cannot see any reason why I would have needed it! I also work from home and have only been in the office a handful of times.

I’ve looked everywhere - in every bag, coat, purse, bit of paper work, in the sofa, under the mattress, behind the radiators etc. don't own a printer so can’t be there 😩

the bag was a little carry on bag and I also took a small handbag with me as it was ryanair, I’ve looked in both them and my husbands coat/bags. How could a passport vanish so easily?!

I have honestly checked every single place you have all offered up and my only explanation is I’ve thrown it away, as my husband thinks he put it in the drawer along with his.

i think my only hope is getting a 7 day appointment if one comes up tomorrow, or I might drive there in desperation anyway, but I just know I’ll be turned away 😕

I should also add, DH is always cool, calm and collected. He was being the voice of reason when I was panicking and he helped me search yesterday and today. He is so thorough that if he didn’t find it, I MUST have thrown it away!

I used the fast track service and it came about three days later. Very simple and straightforward

allthesmallthingz · 02/04/2023 21:07

Have you checked in your car? Anywhere safe! I often leave important stuff in my handbag and then find it out and think "don't want to loose that will put it safe in the car"

Now I know to check there first 😂

DiscoBeat · 02/04/2023 21:11

Down the back of desk or drawers?
In an envelope or amongst paperwork to do with a form or ID
In any filing you might have to do? Did you send it off anywhere?
Under scanner screen?
In a small pocket in a travel bag?
In a handbag you use just for travel, or laptop bag?
In a pocket?
Under the sofa?
Under the car seats or in glove box?

DiscoBeat · 02/04/2023 21:12

Also, think: if you had it in your hand now and had to put it somewhere safe, where would that be?

Livelovebehappy · 02/04/2023 21:12

Have you just searched the places once? It’s amazing how you can search in a drawer and not locate something you’re looking for, and then search the same place again and it’s there! They’re thin things so can often get hidden amongst other documents easily. I would do the search again. Good luck.

seperatedmum · 02/04/2023 21:13

yes
I had to try for three days to even get in an online queue from the Thursday the appointments then just disappeared as I was typing 😳I finally got an appointment on the Saturday for Monday gone hundreds of miles from me so I took it, the passport arrived Wednesday gone!
the passport office don't advise turning up sadly
you said about it being in drawer with husband's? is it like a kitchen drawer where it could fall behind the unit?
good luck 🤞🏽

DiscoBeat · 02/04/2023 21:14

Take the drawers apart. Is there a hidden bit down the back, if the drawer was a bit full it might have slipped down there, or even caught on the bottom of the drawer above?

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/04/2023 21:21

Check with lost property at the airport. Did you park at the airport? If so, check the car. Or ring the taxi/bus/train company.

Check all your and your husband's coats. If you have a bag you usually use for hand luggage have you perhaps left the passport in there, thinking you'll use it soon so it makes sense to leave it there?

Jellybean23 · 02/04/2023 21:22

Is your passport tucked inside DH's?

I hate to tell you this but passport staff at all seven passport offices commence a five week strike tomorrow. You HAVE to findit.
