At the chubby end of healthy BMI, anyone else looking to lose a stone-ish?

Pre kids I was 8stone. I’m now 10 stone and could do with being 9 stone (think my 8 stone days are gone!). Although my BMI is currently in the healthy zone I’m at the top end and feeling sluggish and not a nice shape.

Anyone else want to move from top healthy BMI to mid healthy range BMI?

What are you doing/planning to do?

I don’t really take that much notice of Bmi I think it’s outdated muscle ways more than fat, I go more by what I look like and how my clothes feel on me, I keep fit by walking a few miles per day weather permitting !
It is hard to get weight down if it was easy everyone would be slim, for me it’s about eating healthily which I try hard to do ( not always good) so I’m planning to carry on getting out there into fresh air and walking
I don’t do gyms, I’ve recently dropped over two stone and I’m almost 66.

Me too, my BMI is 25.6 and I'm 5'1 so I look quite chubby with it, I convince myself I look cute but my clothes are groaning and I'm scared of diabetes. I'd like to go from 9stone 10 to about 8.5 stone..I have been planning a calorie deficit of 1200calories but each day I self sabotage, I'm going to try and have more protein and half my carbs though. I'd like to get back into yoga practice too and hiit

I have been taking steroids for 3 years - now down to half a mg daily and hoping to forego that soon. I've lost a lot of weight but can't seem to shift this last stone. Not sure how to manage that as I need to be concerned about my bone health too.

My weight has crept up from 59 to 64 kg. So still in the healthy range for my height, but at the top end. And my shape isn’t great. I now have a distinctly middle-aged middle. I too worry about diabetes.

I’ve always loved food, and have always been a bit of a greeder. Not a binger, and I eat healthily but more chocolate, cheese and wine has crept in since lockdown, which hasn’t helped. Plus I’m 45 and on HRT, so my body is screaming ‘lay down fat reserves!’

I’m cutting out alcohol in the week (only the odd glass but it adds up), and stopping between-meal sugar kicks. Eating a smaller breakfast, and watching portion size at supper. Hopefully I’ll see a difference eventually.

Bon courage everyone! We can still eat lovely things, just not with quite the same guzzle vigour as before.

I’m trying this. A few days in and tracking calories on an app. I’m finding it hard going. Low/almost no calorie drinks seem to help. Planning to get an exercise bike second hand to speed things up.

My sister had to take steroids and it’s tough. Every respect at losing weight on them. You must have massive determination.

Good plan. Fresh air is always good to lift the mood too. I need to build more walking into my day. Just tricky to fit around all the time pressures and kids.

Me! But I don't know. Although I'd like to lose more like 2 stone tbh. I'm hoping to get into the swing of things with a calorie deficit. It always works for me, just need to get my brain in gear and motivated!

UnbearableLoss · 01/04/2023 20:34

Yes me op. I was hoping to lose 2 stone back in Feb to get rid of the surplus 1.5 stone and also the half stone that I wanted to get rid of pre-kids!

I got close to losing a stone and then it plateaued so I had a bit of a break (self sabotaged the whole thing and went on a 3 day crisp butty rampage).

Got my app ready and going for a run in the morning. Thanks for the push OP!

Songbird54321 · 01/04/2023 20:36

I need to lose about a stone and a half. I'm 5'8 and have always 'weighed heavy' even at a size 8. I'm about 12 and a half stone now give or take and would like to be 11. I was 10 pre kids but I can't see that happening.
I'm trying to watch how much I eat, my actual food is rarely unhealthy but I do have larger portions and can graze all day. I'm also signing back up for barre pilates which I did weekly pre covid. Starting end of this month so looking forward to it.
I'm not overly bothered about what the scales say but I just feel so unfit now, I was bed-bound for 4/5 months of my last pregnancy with hyperemesis so just lost all fitness and muscle I had to the point I get a bit out of breath running up the stairs. I need to fee healthier than I do now

Buildingthefuture · 01/04/2023 20:42

Me! I gain and lose the same 10lbs every year! It’s lose time, so I do a 30 minute workout at home before work every weekday morning (I have an app, I could never be arsed to go to the gym) I get my 10k steps in every day (easy because I have dogs) and do longer walks on the weekends. Food wise, I’m quite strict Monday to Friday. Stick to around 1200 calories, no alcohol, no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes. Am currently making some nice meals from the High Protein cookbook which I eat with tonnes of fresh veg. I take weekends “off” in that I have a drink and eat pretty much whatever I want. Would obviously lose weight quicker if I didn’t do that, but I need my weekends! It will take me 12 weeks to shift the 10lbs, like it does every year!

AFlockOfTigers · 01/04/2023 20:43

Placemarking. I've got a BMI of 24.8 and a wardrobe full of clothes which would fit me me better/at all 22.5. But that 0.2 is what has me really struggling for motivation. I've stopped drinking (months ago) which I thought would give me big calorie savings but for some reason I've lost all my motivation to say no to cakes, biscuits and pastries.

I'm planning to start running again for an event in May, but I'll need to hold off the croissants as well if I'm to get anywhere.

Minierme · 02/04/2023 16:28

Sweet things are my nemesis too, especially in my low energy dip (which is also when I pick my kids up, so feel like I need to be a bit more alert!).

How are your weekend’s going?
We did park run on Saturday and managed to keep to my 1200 limit. But craving chocolate! Don’t seem to have room for it within calories despite only eating two meals. 1200 is definitely feeling like deprivation!

Blackandwhitehorse · 02/04/2023 19:16

I’m at the upper limit of mine and 5 ft 1. At the moment I’m just focusing on cutting out snacks and evening chocolate rather than calorie restricting. I’m going on holiday soon so that is a motivator

Vinorosso74 · 02/04/2023 19:25

OP I am exactly the same weight and would love to get back to 9 stone.
I have had a medically induced menopause thanks to breast cancer. I'm on 12 weekly ovarian suppression injections and letrozole tablets. The gym isn't helping shift it so I need to do more and eat less. I was no more than and a half stone during chemo then since starting the hormone blockers, the weight has just crept on and I feel fat.

Inkblue · 02/04/2023 19:33

I’m the heaviest I’ve been for years and would like to lose at least 14 lbs. I snack a lot and am trying to up the protein so I’m not so hungry.

Skyblue22 · 02/04/2023 19:35

I'm just over the healthy BMI category and creeping into overweight. I'm almost 6ft and started at 13 st 7, currently 12st 10 and hoping to lose those last 10lbs!

Calorie counting at the moment, not hugely changing my diet but it does make me much more aware of not having any snacks or excessive meals.

GreenMarigold · 02/04/2023 19:52

I am also 10st and would like to be 9st. I had gestational diabetes with both children so I know I need to be careful about my weight.

I have been losing and regaining the same 3 or 4 lbs for 3 years. I don’t know how to break the cycle.

Whilst pregnant I went very low carb to control my GD and I know that would work but it was SO miserable. I just can’t face doing it again and it is not sustainable for me. Honestly I can’t live without white crusty bread in my life!

If any of you would like to form a group to do it together I’d be very up for it.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 02/04/2023 19:54

This is me! BMI of 24 at 10st13. I really want to get down to 10st but it seems impossible.

Mammillaria · 02/04/2023 20:00

I could do with losing a stone. I usually just drop a meal if my weight creeps up, but I'm walking a very thin line with migraines at the moment so need to approach it with a bit more thought and self discipline!

CandleInTheStorm · 02/04/2023 20:01

BMI is so outdated and misleading! A PT at my gym said his BMI is 27... he's a very fit, athletic build and very healthy. His diet is so healthy!

anxiouslemons · 02/04/2023 20:48

Ah this thread is exactly what I need.
I'm 5'8 and around 12st6 so I think that makes my BMI overweight at 26.46 ish Sad
I'd like to get down to 11st.
Planning on joining the local gym this week, getting my steps in (if the rain stops) and eating more sensibly. My diet is healthy, but just too much of it. And there's been reason for emotional eating the last 6 months and it's definitely caught up with me
Time to change now! I have an event at the end of April and I'd rather not feel like crap in a nice dress

You are right if you have high muscle tone. Sadly mine is definitely fat!

Cheering you on! I’m prone to emotional eating. Trying to find a new thing - is emotional exercise a thing?!

Yes! I’ve put on a stone in the last year and want to shift it, plus maybe 1/2-1 more.
