At the chubby end of healthy BMI, anyone else looking to lose a stone-ish?

Pre kids I was 8stone. I’m now 10 stone and could do with being 9 stone (think my 8 stone days are gone!). Although my BMI is currently in the healthy zone I’m at the top end and feeling sluggish and not a nice shape.

Anyone else want to move from top healthy BMI to mid healthy range BMI?

What are you doing/planning to do?

Yes imagine being one of those people who hit the gym when they're feeling stressed and not hitting the deliveroo app and the wine bottle in the fridge Grin

Ontobetterthings · 02/04/2023 21:23

I was 2 stone overweight. Slimming world wasn't working even with gym. Started intermittent fasting 16/8 and the weight has just dropped off

Pourmeanotherwine · 02/04/2023 21:31

Yeah I could lose a stone or 3. I've had some success so far from giving up sugar for lent. Not completely, just cutting out biscuits, puddings, cakes, etc.Havent weighed myself but feel slightly better. I'm probably ( just) on the obese bit of the BMI chart.

Who are these people?! I don’t know any but then I also don’t frequent the gym so that might be why!

Me! I'm 5'6 and 12 stone, need to lose at least a stone. Got a holiday in two months so am determined. Going to go to the gym tomorrow. And do hiit workouts at home.

Can I ask how intermittent fasting actually works? I’ve heard it’s very effective but not sure how to actually go about it

That was meant for @Ontobetterthings

This is me too, although I've given up hope. I joined a swim club and am swimming twice a week with them (they are hard workouts) plus doing another shorter less intensive swim in between. I also have a physical job and am generally a pretty 'on the go' kinda person. I still haven't lost anything, and in fact am now permanently hungry thanks to the swimming, which I wasn't before. I know the answer is to try and ignore the ravenous feeling for the 24hrs after a swim (which feels impossible - I want to chew my own arm off) or give up drinking (this will make me miserable). I don't eat much sweet stuff, but am partial to crunchy, salty, savoury things...
On the up side, I am definitely a lot lot fitter from the swimming, and my legs are noticeably thinner (to me at least).

Well done on all that exercise! You must definitely be healthier. Is it possible you are gaining muscle so after lighter but are fitter? Maybe use one those machines which check body fat %.

It would be nice to think that's the case, but my belly wobble begs to differ 😂 If there is added muscle, it's hiding...
Yes, definitely much fitter now though!

BMI is so outdated and misleading! A PT at my gym said his BMI is 27... he's a very fit, athletic build and very healthy. His diet is so healthy!

I don't think anyone on the thread wants to lose weight just because they're at the upper end of a healthy BMI, we aren't like your personal trainer.
I'm still in healthy range but I'm chubby and overweight for "me". I need to be a stone lighter to be at a decent healthy weight, muscly or not. My BMI reading reassured me I'm not obese, that's all.

BlueSlate · 04/04/2023 09:30

I've got a stone to lose.

I've got 2 weeks off work for Easter so I'm doing it by low carbing and getting meal stuff prepped for when I go back to work.

Already dropped 3lbs since Friday. Yes, its water weight but already means I look less 'puffy'.

Minierme · 08/04/2023 15:16

Thinking of you all over the bank holiday weekend, especially with Easter eggs a-plenty! I’massively relaxibg my calorie control and just trying to maintain this week and not gain weight!

Hey! In similar situation - chubbier end of healthy after DC2 (11 months) and just feeling crappy day to day! Will use intermittent fasting with general reduced caloric intake and excercise.
