Shit week. I'm cooking a roast and opening the wine.

I've had a shit week. People in our families very ill, it's pissing down, work has been a nightmare.

Does anyone else feel like a Friday night roast dinner makes you feel better/comforted? I went to the butcher at lunch a bought lamb, and it's been in the oven on low since 1. Opened a bottle of wine at 4pm "for the gravy" and have a glass in front of me. Just DH and I here so don't worry.

Has anyone seen the peep show episode where Mark and Sophie are getting divorced and Mark is "chain eating roasts"? A roast just makes my day better. Cheers Wine

Love that episode.

Sorry it's been a bad week for you. A roast is super comforting and I would absolutely drink as much of the wine as you feel like!

Been a rough one here too with illnesses and very little sleep. I'd like a wine myself but it'll probably just send me to sleep. Maybe once the dc are in bed I'll have a wee one.

Never ever had a roast on a Friday, or even considered it - my mind is blown! What a great idea. I assume you work from home? It must make the weekend feel so much longer.

SmoothSeasDoNotMakeGoodSailors · 31/03/2023 16:44

I’ve got a joint in the fridge for Sunday, thinking about throwing caution to the wind and doing it tonight instead 😆

Schmutter · 31/03/2023 16:46

A roast would not even register on a comfort food list for me. But I’d have the wine!

daisydalrymple · 31/03/2023 16:47

Ooh I’d love a roast tonight. I’m a little hungover as had 2 mini bottles of Prosecco last night without food as I worked a late shift. We’re going out for dinner as I’ve just finished my job today, so supposed to be celebrating, but I just want comfort food and an early night really 🤦🏻‍♀️😩😂

Why toast when you can roast? 😂 I love Mark, I definitely identify with him.

Sorry you're having a shite time too. I think Friday definitely calls for a nice glass of wine even if it's just a tiny ceremonial one to say you made it through another week!

Cooking a roast (or lovely meal) with a glass of wine is one of my greatest pleasures. Hope it comforts you xxx

GCAcademic · 31/03/2023 16:48

I’m regretting my choice of quiche and salad for tonight now. I want fish and chips and a bottle of fizz.

Paperexcelandpens · 31/03/2023 16:48

Sounds lovely! Might try it myself next week.

BreviloquentBastard · 31/03/2023 16:49

I love a roast as comfort food. My work week has been a nightmare this week and I can feel the roast potatoes and wine calling to me.....

Gladiaterf · 31/03/2023 16:51

I do WFH! I'm lucky in that in a Friday roast cooking capacity I guess!

We don't always have Friday roasts but it definitely seems to mark the start of the weekend.

Cooking a nice meal with a glass of wine is one of the things that makes me really happy. Even when the world is going to shit.

Cheers all Wine

I’ve made the mistake of asking the kids what they want for tea, they said pasta now I’m moaning about having pasta when I want something else.

I was just about to say the same 🤯

I'd love a roast dinner now!

iloveautumn3 · 31/03/2023 17:14

I do not work Tuesday's. We have sausage roast dinner on a Tuesday Roast potatoes and Yorkshire's 😋

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 31/03/2023 17:16

Just done the weekly shop, protocol for after the shop is that everyone in the house sorts themselves out for food. DD wanted lasagna, DH likes sushi. Me I've had a shit week at work and got soaked on school pick up, so I'm having a great big steak with mushrooms and asparagus

CrocodileFrog · 31/03/2023 17:20

That actually sounds amazing! I normally associate roasts with Sundays, so to have one on a Friday would make the weekend feel longer! If that makes sense.

I somehow waited until 5pm for a glass of wine and DH is cooking pizza. Glad this week is over, it’s been a pretty shit one here too :/

Nooooo! Is it too late to change?

Daisy778 · 31/03/2023 17:39

I'm not adverse to a mini mid week roast but don't think I've ever had one on a Friday, what you've described sounds like exactly what I could do with! Think you've started something here! Agree with the poster who said it would feel like it would extend the weekend 😂 don't have the ingredients unfortunately but will join you with a glass of wine. Cheers to the weekend 🥂

EdnaMole · 31/03/2023 17:42

I’d love a roast if someone would cook one for me..I really can’t be bothered!!
i have also had a rubbish week..ongoing back pain due to ligament damage, loads of stress at work, elderly parent troubles (x3) and a grumpy teen. It was my birthday yesterday and it all went by in a busy blur. To top it all just had to cancel a long awaited and much needed weekend away as one of my friends has Covid..it will be a nightmare to rearrange as everyone is so busy. Going away was the only thing keeping me going. Supposed to be getting fish and chips tonight but I have a feeling it will end up a stressful song and dance…
A roast at your house OP and a glass of wine would be lovely, may I pull up a chair?

girlmeetsboy · 31/03/2023 17:47

I've had a helluva week too and it looks like I will be working all weekend as we are the middle of a merger so its deadline after deadline...

A roast is my favourite meal in the world but I honestly couldn't be bothered on a friday....Ive just poured a Vodka and Tonic and DH wants fish and chips which I don't like so I will have a salad or something as I had a biiiiigggg Jacket Potato with cheese and coleslaw for lunch and am not too hungry..

I adore cooking a roast on a Sunday with a glass of wine, I usually also make a Lasagne or Moussaka for Mon/Tues night at the same time...I find it really relaxing. Enjoy 😋

lv884 · 31/03/2023 17:54

Perfect weather for a roast. I’d get some tunes on too. Bon appetit.

unfortunateevents · 31/03/2023 17:57

Oh that sounds like a great start to the weekend! But you stopped halfway - you need to come back and tell us what veggies are going with the roast? And will there be dessert?!

Snowpaw · 31/03/2023 17:57

I used to love a Friday night roast. My routine would be:
Get in from work. Peel spuds quick, parboil while unwrapping the chicken, chopping a few onions and carrots. Put the chicken on top of veg, parboiled potatoes round the outside. In the oven. Make some paxo stuffing. Go and have a bath while it all cooked and drink a beer. Come down and eat with DP. It was so nice.

Life with a little one is a bit different now but we do still have roasts on days other than Sunday.

PerfectYear321 · 31/03/2023 18:00

Wow, you must be loaded....LAMB......and slow cooking it in your OVEN!! 😲

QueenBee1234 · 31/03/2023 18:05

Yep totally shit week. Just fallen out with my amazing teenage son (50/50 on who's fault it was!)
Sat down with a large gin contemplating a jacket potato with cheese and beans!!!!
