Shit week. I'm cooking a roast and opening the wine.

I've had a shit week. People in our families very ill, it's pissing down, work has been a nightmare.

Does anyone else feel like a Friday night roast dinner makes you feel better/comforted? I went to the butcher at lunch a bought lamb, and it's been in the oven on low since 1. Opened a bottle of wine at 4pm "for the gravy" and have a glass in front of me. Just DH and I here so don't worry.

Has anyone seen the peep show episode where Mark and Sophie are getting divorced and Mark is "chain eating roasts"? A roast just makes my day better. Cheers Wine

Why not? I love a roast. No to the wine but yes to an apple crumble with cinnamon and sultanas served with custard. Yummy. Roast pork preferably Don't understand the concept of a sausage roast dinner. Sausage dinner or roast dinner, not the hybrid in my roast dinner deprived mind🙄🤣

This is such a cosy thread. I'm two weeks into a very good but stressful new job. I'm having lamb casserole with Yorkshire puddings and veg so not far off x

God I am starving !! Stuck in bed with covid atm. Would love some food but mouth and throat are sore. Think I may need alcohol to numb the pain !

bengalcat · 31/03/2023 18:17

Skiing at the moment but looking forward to a roast when we return on Sunday - lucky me left the man behind to cook it and look after our pets ….. a sausage roast sounds interesting

WaggyTailsWetNoses · 31/03/2023 18:17

Ooh. Roast on a Friday? That’s a bit left field for me. But it sounds like just the sort of delicious comfort you need.

Here, I’m out at an activity with DD until 7.15 most Fridays. So we go for anything low and slow. Brisket and chips is all-round favourite. Tonight it’s Nigella’s pollo alla Riesling with tagliatelle. I’ll be popping the leftover Riesling in my glass very shortly.

Lollypop701 · 31/03/2023 18:34

I don’t mind cooking, and quite often have a quick roast (I cook loads of mash and freeze it and mashed swede etc) I have put picky bits in oven… duck rolls, filo prawns, feta samosa….. opened the wine. I WILL forget the shite week and look forward to the weekend. My head tomorrow may not agree… but that’s then not now 😂

i also love a full English breakfast for dinner… … food 🥘 is a joy!

I always cook a mid week roast in our house. We are not always home on a weekend due to work and DS at his dad's. Love it OP enjoy!

UndercoverCop · 31/03/2023 18:38

DH is out DS ate earlier , I really want a shish kebab, but am cooking a butterflied chicken breast on the griddle pan to have with salad trying to convince myself it's essentially the same thing. I could murder a roast

OrlandointheWilderness · 31/03/2023 18:46

Ohhh love a roast. There is nothing that a roast would not improve.

Wow, you must be loaded....LAMB......and slow cooking it in your OVEN!! 😲

🥴 um...sorry? Should nobody mention using their oven?

To be fair I haven't bought a butchers joint in about 6 months, though Im not sure why im explaining this to someone being snide.

Thanks for the lovely messages everyone else, hope everyone is having a drama free and chilled Friday.

Well, as a vegetarian (and I don't think I've ever eaten lamb in my 45 years) and someone who has never had a roast dinner on a Friday, unless it was Christmas Day or New Year's Day, I hope you enjoyed your Friday roast, Gladiaterf, and it brings you some comfort after a tough week. 🥂🌷

user764329056 · 31/03/2023 19:46

Roast is ultimate comfort food, wish I could be bothered because it’s wonderful when it’s done

itssquidstella · 31/03/2023 20:12

DH is away till Monday and DS is ill. I’m on the wine and hoping DS sleeps through...

piedbeauty · 31/03/2023 20:27

Sounds like a tough week.

A roast and wine sound very comforting - especially if it's raining!

Same here! Shit work week, mouth/tooth infection which means o can’t chew so wine and chocolate for nme!
please can I come for dinner?

SirCharlesRainier · 31/03/2023 20:56

Good idea but you should really go for a couple at the Fuck Bunker first. Then go home and roast the fuck out of some meat

SettlingForANewPassword · 31/03/2023 21:00

I often do a roast on friday because I am jewish and it is our Shabbat dinner.

LOVE a roast. For me it marks the end of the week. Since WFH on fridays i can shove it in the oven and all is right with the world.

Sundays I like scrambled eggs on bagels. Never quite got to grips with a Sunday roast.

Omg the fuck bunker.

But we might fall in a K hole and end up sucking cock with Superhans.

I'm off to find some old Peep Show to watch!

McCoys, Ribena and a Twirl...

Oh that sounds the perfect way to finish off a hard week. I'm tempted to do a roast this weekend. We never do!

704703hey · 31/03/2023 22:21

I'm having a cold beer with lime, refreshing. Only one can as I'm on an extreme budget this week :)

Cheers all, happy Friday

A roast not on a Sunday tastes a thousand times better! Enjoy it and hope your family get better soon ❤️
