How often do you have time for a proper lunch at work?

For me it's once in a blue moon! I assume this is quite common but interested to hear what others get.

Also any suggestions for quick meals at work. Considering Huel at this point!

I have 20 mins a day. I take a sandwich I made at home.

Oblomov23 · 30/03/2023 18:03

Every single day of my working life. I take a salad, a BLT sandwich, carrots and hummus, leftovers from last night, frozen leftovers: lasagne, curry, chilli, jacket potato with cheese and pepper.

PogoThePunk · 30/03/2023 18:10

We have a one hour lunch break and we have a subsidised canteen serving a variety of hot and cold food, although I sometimes take a sandwich from home in the summer and sit outside.

IrritableVowel · 30/03/2023 18:12

I take my hour every day unless I have a meeting, which has happened about twice in a year.

Starseeed · 30/03/2023 18:15

I book time out in my Outlook diary otherwise it just gets booked over with meetings. I book out time for everything - including focus time to do my actual job! - otherwise it just gets booked up.

Today I worked from home and went for a run then ate, but if I’m in the office I usually make sure to go out for a walk then eat.

CrumpetsandJammmm · 30/03/2023 18:15

Every day unless there’s something specific running through lunchtime, and even then I’ll probably grab half an hour around it.

It’s an office job. If my workload can’t generally be done in 7 hours then there’s something wrong with the team’s capacity.

pncr · 30/03/2023 18:16

Every day. I wfh and have an hour a day blocked off in my calendar.

I eat lunch, take a break and sometimes have a nap.

Ive just started putting focus time in and it’s an absolute life saver!

I have my lunch at 11.30 to avoid getting dragged into stuff and missing my break.
If I leave it any later, 101 things suddenly need doing, and I get to 3pm and realize not only haven't I eaten, but I've also not had a drink.

hopeishere · 30/03/2023 18:20

Every day. WFH. Always take an hour.

grafittiartist · 30/03/2023 18:20

Never. It's always a sandwich eaten as fast as possible. Sit with colleagues, we manage about ten minutes.
Always feel sick afterwards!!

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 30/03/2023 18:21

I don't 'have' time per se. But I always take my 30 mins. I'm not paid for it so why not

megletthesecond · 30/03/2023 18:22

Every day. Without fail. Eat sandwich / savoury muffin at desk then 30 minute power walk come rain or shine.

HelenaHurricane · 30/03/2023 18:24

I liKe the idea of having it earlier so you don't get sucked in! That is very true. I do have quieter mornings than afternoons for some reason. Someone always comes at me with something VERY URGENT in the afternoon 😩🙄😂

OP posts:
Mutabiliss · 30/03/2023 18:26

Always. I can't concentrate in the afternoon if I don't have a break and a walk or potter round the garden. And I have never forgotten to eat in my life.

If I'm really busy I'll work extra in the evening.

HelenaHurricane · 30/03/2023 18:28

I'm struggling with my weight ATM, so the forgetting / not having time to eat lunch is not helping me in that regard

Own business. I swear a flashing light goes off to draw customers in as soon as the microwave dings to say done. I rarely get to eat something hot, and have a thermos mug so I stand a prayer of a warm drink.

My staple winter lunch is soup; summer staple is a salad.

Doingmybest12 · 30/03/2023 18:31

Almost never. I do see it as partly an issue with not being disciplined and prioritising this but I can easily work a whole day continuously and still never get on top of everything.

ComeOnNumber100 · 30/03/2023 18:36

Did enough years of working through and not having a break, then realised it was almost expected. Realised toonthat the smokers were taking fag breaks and lunch breaks so decided to make a change and now I always have my lunch break.

Ilovecrumpetseveryday · 30/03/2023 18:38

I very rarely have time to stop and eat. I’m client facing and it’s one in one out. I usually have a bite of my lunch while I’m mixing colour up. Can take me hours to get through a sandwich.

Disneyforaweek · 30/03/2023 18:42

In my current role every day, i have a really good work life balance.

In a previous role I was so busy and stressed and anxious that I used to work all day without eating and would eat once a day at 7pm. I lost a lot of weight but it wasn't worth it, i felt like I had no life.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 30/03/2023 18:43

Everyday. I'm self-employed and always make sure I get time for lunch.

Singleandproud · 30/03/2023 18:44

I never used to when I was teaching and talk over lunch would be work related.

Now, when I WFH I often pop into my parents (live on the same street) for lunch and am looking forward to the weather getting warmer as I can take up to 2 hours for lunch and live near the beach so I'll have to make the time up but can actually get out in the nice weather. If I'm in the office we get 'told off' if we eat at our desk and if the weather is nice go for a walk along the river.

shivawn · 30/03/2023 18:45

We get 30 minutes and it's a 5 minute walk to the canteen, it's not a very relaxing break but I can sit and eat for 20 minutes.

Ringmaster27 · 30/03/2023 18:45

Never.
I work in a bar, so live on crisps, scampi fries when I’m at work 😬😬
