How often do you have time for a proper lunch at work?

For me it's once in a blue moon! I assume this is quite common but interested to hear what others get.

Also any suggestions for quick meals at work. Considering Huel at this point!

I’ve really pushed back with this since starting my new job and take my full hour almost every day. The only times I don’t is if a meeting is scheduled during when I would usually take my lunch break, I sometimes just take a shorter break and then crack on.
But I prioritise myself a lot more now and management encourage people to block out lunch in their calendars every day and be firm about setting personal boundaries which I think is a very healthy.
I try and go for a walk or to the gym during my lunchbreak when I’m wfh and then just eat my lunch at my desk. I could take a half hour and finish half an hour earlier which I do sometimes if it suits me and I want to go somewhere after work.

Everyday. Wfh.

Morningcoffeeview · 30/03/2023 20:25

I generally make time - else I’ll finish early. If I’m wfh I go for a run at lunch.

somedays I just can’t but I do more often than not.

We have to take our 30 minutes in a 12 hour shift. End up with indigestion if you try and eat a proper meal though.

Every day , I get a hour unpaid break.

Many years ago when we were subcontractors a work mate was finishing of the job he was doing and a faulty door ( they are automatic , and should work on sensors like lift doors ) trapped his hand he was not badly hurt just a bit of bruising and a little swollen .
This happened when he was about 10 minutes into his unpaid lunch break , he had to fill in a accident form because of the injury , the company we were contracted to ( and had been for 8 years) immediately started saying he could not make any claims as at the time he was not been paid to work therefor they were under no obligation to protect him/ keep him safe . He had absolutely no intention of making any kind of claim but their knee jerk reaction really surprised us.

From then onwards we all said no working whatsoever unless we are been paid , that includes if/ when we get in work early .
It has backfired on the company a many times, now when they ask if we can just pop over there , just go and grab this , clean up that etc we all say nope.
We never have our lunch at the same time so there is always someone that can do whatever it is but the person wanting the task done has to go and hunt down someone that is working .

Just started anew job , we get 1 whole hour for lunch, several kitchens and a staff canteen with subsidised lovely proper food. It’s awesome , I’m getting used to it very quickly !

Never - can't remember the last time I had a lunch break. Just eat at my desk as I'm working.

NHS admin staff. I’m the only one in my office of 16 that takes my lunch break. But it’s half an hour I don’t get paid for so I don’t work. The others in the office seem to be a slave to the job…that’s their choice of course but they moan about it.

Rebel2 · 31/03/2023 08:01

Every day. We aren't allowed to work through and it's scheduled

Lunch on site is a highlight, which almost makes it worth going on site for alone.

Usually make time for lunch, usually with colleagues and/or visitors.

If I want to get away early, I might work though but I generally enjoy a bit of social interaction over lunch. Good good and highly subsidise, coffee excellent.

It's always a bit of a surprise quite how expensive fancy coffee is, off site.

I always worked through my lunch hour. But it was my choice to a degree. I preferred to do my planning etc then and cut down on how much I had to do at home in the evening. I'd have had to work some of it simply to organise the resources etc for the afternoon, but working without a break had its positives for me.
