We have some American friends coming to stay over Easter and want to take them to a really Indian for dinner… Pref central London, authentic and delicious. Dishoom is my go to but they don’t have any availability for the nights we’d want at a time we need (3/4th April 5:30-8pm) and they’ve been recommended the likes of veeraswamy but ££££

hit me!

I'm Indian and love going with my family to Saravana Bhavan - it's amazing and pretty reasonable prices I'd say.

ilkleymoorbartat · 26/03/2023 19:47

Tayaabs?

Crazycatlady202020 · 26/03/2023 20:12

You can queue for dishoom? Just grab some beers and hang around in the queue - maybe send your American friends on a little wander around carnaby street and you get to the queue 30 minutes early - I've never queued more than an hour

Well as someone who has lived in London for over 30yrs my favourite is Babur. Not in trendy city areas and not somewhere I would have thought would be great. But my best friend who is from bangladesh was shocked and loved it

Defiantlynot41 · 26/03/2023 20:31

Veeraswami in Regent St has always been fab

Or Cinnamon Club cinnamonclub.com

TheOpenRoad · 26/03/2023 20:33

I'm loving these recommendations! I haven't been but would love to go to the Tamil Prince is Islington, reviews are amazing but it's in a pub so maybe not what you're looking for

https://www.cinnamon-kitchen.com/london-city/#menus- I haven't been there since pre-covid. It was expensive, but very nice, food. There was a bar (Anise) next door which was handy for a post dinner drink.

For a cheaper, day to day option- I'd go to Preem on Bricklane, but most of restaurants long there are technically Bangladeshi. Still- its the only one I'd eat in due to DH doing a cooking course there years ago and seeing their kitchen.

London City - Cinnamon Kitchen

Found in Devonshire Square in the City of London, Cinnamon Kitchen City by Vivek Singh, brings together the best of India and the UK.

Tayyabs is good. Or Hoppers.

Iamblossom · 26/03/2023 20:37

Benares

We went here for DH's 50th and it was incredible

youmustbemad · 26/03/2023 20:39

Kutir is amaaazing but maybe too expensive. I also really like the vegetarian set meal at Brigadier.

Hernamewaslola1 · 26/03/2023 20:40

Gymkhana!

cocksstrideintheevening · 26/03/2023 20:40

Gymkhana is my favourite but might be too £££

NewYearNewMNName · 26/03/2023 20:40

Third recommendation for Tayyabs.
I lived in Shoreditch, off Brick Lane, for years. You will not find better, booking is essential

PinkLisianthus · 26/03/2023 20:40

I would also recommend both Tyabbs and Cinnamon Club. Thinking about this is making me hungry!

AutumnNymph · 26/03/2023 20:41

Second Saravana Bhavan. There is one at Leicester sq. It has always been a hit with my non Indian friends.
Chutneys in Drummond lane is another good one.
Govindas in Tottenham Court Road

Tayyub’s is good food but not the place to go if you want a pleasant dining experience.

NBLarsen · 26/03/2023 20:51

Another vote for Tayyabs, delicious food!

m00rfarm · 26/03/2023 20:55
