Anyone up - horrendously sore throat

helpyhelperton · 22/03/2023 03:26

I have been waking every hour with the pain. I'm taking ibuprofen and paracetamol every 3 hours and taking a sore throat sweet from the chemist every hour.

I've never known a sore throat like this - I very rarely get them. This is horrendous - my glands aren't swollen and I can't seen anything when I look with torch in mirror.

I've gargled with salt water.

Nothing is helping - any advice greatly appreciated.

I've had/am having the same. Antibiotics didn't touch it. It's gradually easing now, nearly two weeks later. Ibuprofen, paracetamol and sweets is about all you can do. You have my sympathies ❤️

ISpyCobraKai · 22/03/2023 03:30

As it's the middle of the night I'm guessing you can't get any codeine, but I'd try it when the chemists open.
Solpadeine max is the best.
In the mean time that sounds shit, maybe try a warm drink to soothe?

Agree with this and gargle with salt water

Sunnysunbun · 22/03/2023 03:35

Once the chemist is open get some throat spray. I’m awake because I have covid. My whole body aches and I feel so cold.

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 22/03/2023 03:44

Soluble aspirin, hot lemon and honey and Dequadine throat lozenges that numb it.
🤗 from me, it’s rotten.

JimJammies · 22/03/2023 03:54

The throat sprays are really good. Do you have any ice you could suck? Flowers

helpyhelperton · 22/03/2023 03:56

Thank you so much. I've gargled with salt water (found this hard, kept heaving)

And just taken dispersabls aspirin

The pain when swallowing is horrendous. Never know this before, ever

You might need antibiotics. I ended up in hospital because of tonsillitis last month, get checked out by GP

HanSB · 22/03/2023 03:57

You can gargle with aspirin too, that will help

helpyhelperton · 22/03/2023 03:58

I'm going to get a throat spray in the morning. The sweets are OTD but not very strong.

I'm going to try to sleep for a bit - need to be up at 7 for work...I have to work but I'm hoping it's better during the day?

Another vote for throat sprays when you can get to a chemist. The ones that contain local anaesthetic and have a long nozzle so you can spray right to the back and numb it. I'm up ill too but weirdly got everything but a sore throat (nose, sinuses, ears, cough). And the wind is trying to lift the house wizard of Oz style by the sounds of it.

mightymam · 22/03/2023 03:59

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️ I woke up at 1am and am struggling to sleep :( I've got generalised aches and pains as well. Think I'm getting a full-on flu :(

Nat6999 · 22/03/2023 04:01

Have you done a covid test? That is how mine started.

YouOKHun · 22/03/2023 04:08

yes me too @Nat6999 . I had COVID fairly recently and have never experienced such a painful throat. I couldn’t be vertical at all as I was likely to need to swallow so I lay in one position for a few days, so painful. I did recover quickly though.

704703hey · 22/03/2023 04:16

Oh dear, a few of us up in pain!

I have a very sore stomach so I've gone downstairs to sit on the sofa and sip water.

Hope it gets better for everyone soon.

Cleanthatup · 22/03/2023 04:36

I second Covid, my whole family including in-laws have it atm. The headaches and sore throats are the worst.

GrumpyPanda · 22/03/2023 04:42

Rather than salt water, I'd suggest a proper oral antiseptic (iodide solution) for gargling.

Jewelanemone · 22/03/2023 04:44

Husband and I have both tested negative for Covid, so it's not that. As an added delight I also have conjunctivitis.

Cherry2456 · 22/03/2023 05:05

Hi have frequently suffered from sore throats so have tried loads of lozenges, numbing sprays, preventative sprays etc. The best one I have had is difflam, I bought it from a high street pharmacy.

Cherry2456 · 22/03/2023 05:14

Hi not sure if it’s relevant to you but I had really bad conjunctivitis about a month ago and ended going to hospital for it. The specialist said it looked like it was viral, they took swabs. I got a really bad sore throat 2 days later and found it difficult to swallow the Gp checked it out and said it was viral. I went for a follow up for the eye and the lab results came bk as a bacterial.

Cherry2456 · 22/03/2023 05:18

Tyrozets were great but because they had antibiotic in them the high street chemist has discontinued them.

Omg, same here. Double conjunctivitis and this horrendous sore throat, earache and headaches. I want to cry!! Booked in with dr at 11.... fingers crossed he'll put me out of my misery

Get well soon Flowers

RSintes · 22/03/2023 05:44

Had this last week too and being delirious with pain was admitted to A&E as it turned out to be quinsy which is the evil twin of tonsillitis. Was in hosp for a couple of days on antibiotics. Please get checked out as it can lead to sepsis
Hope you feel better soon

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/03/2023 05:47

I've been up all night with sore throat. It came on during the day (Tuesday). I've been wiping my mouth out with kitchen roll because it's too painful to swallow. The left side of my neck is huge and painful to touch.

It took me over an hour to sip a small amount of soluble solpadeine.

I'm sat watching Netflix with a roll of kitchen paper and a bin bag with my spittled kitchen roll in. I'm hot then frozen.

I'm going to try a lemsip next.

I seem to have had a sore throat on and off for a few weeks. Not been as bad as this for a fair few years.

I can't look after my grandchildren today because I wouldn't want to pass this on (unless this is something I've managed to grow myself). That makes me feel really bad.

Hopefully someone can get me some chloraseptic spray so I get a bit of relief.

Things always seem worst at night.
