Anyone up - horrendously sore throat

I have been waking every hour with the pain. I'm taking ibuprofen and paracetamol every 3 hours and taking a sore throat sweet from the chemist every hour.

I've never known a sore throat like this - I very rarely get them. This is horrendous - my glands aren't swollen and I can't seen anything when I look with torch in mirror.

I've gargled with salt water.

Nothing is helping - any advice greatly appreciated.

You can gargle with aspirin too, that will help

I second this. It's the only thing that's touched the pain when I've had this. I feel for you op, it's not a pleasant ailment.

The soluble aspirin did the trick this morn - I slept for 3 hours.

Just taken some soluble paracetamol in the hope that will work in the same way and I can 'pad out' the aspirin.

I just can't gargle - my gag reflex kicks in but I did keep my head back with salt water in for a bit so hope some of it has reached.

I don't feel ill (I didn't over the weekend) it's just this sore throat.

Going to get a spray and stronger sore throat sweets this morning.

Thanks again and I will everyone else well!

Anyone who says that they're feeling really cold and have a sore throat - that's the symptoms that two people I know had, which turned out to be covid (they tested as we work in a surgery). So be warned.

DH has had an incredibly sore throat for a week. He's been having honey and lemon, gargling with salt water, and eating things like porridge, soup with bread soaked into it, mashed potato with fish in sauce and peas, and bananas.

He didn't feel well enough to get himself to GP, and around day 3 has white spots in mouth and tonsils, so keep an eye out for that (tonsillitis). I understand Strep Throat is similar.

Anyway, now has ABs. GP couldn't sign him off as didn't have the tab on her computer. Has to phone back when she's in on Thursday!
