Fentimans ginger beer now has Stevia in.

Just that!

Nothing on the bottle to say there has been a change of recipe. It tasted so disgusting that I checked the ingredients list. Steviol (from Stevia) in it. I know it’s not an artificial sweetener but I don’t care. I want changes labelled so I don’t end up ingesting something that tastes of liquorice and gives me headaches and messes with my guts.

I will be so sad if all Fentimans drinks go this way, it’s difficult enough getting fizzy drinks that are only sugar, no sweeteners.

Wow, so at the moment Pepsi on tap is ok? But how will I know when it isn’t okay? Will I have to buy some, take a drink, find it tastes disgusting and get a headache? Thank god I’m not actually allergic but the DC and I are definitely intolerant to sweeteners and it’s not worth feeling sick, headachy and bloated for a glass of pop.

I am going to look at that Pepsi thread, thanks for starting it.

Were they vegy, but became vegan? That’s a whole other thread!

Yes! Sorry to highjack op. But i'm hopping mad still. They've ruined the best veggie sausages EVER.
Bastards!

Understandable Maple, I’m also a vegy who’s fed up of our options being changed to make them vegan.

Ther was a thread a few weeks back complainbing about Cauldron sausages. It's a crying shame, they used to be delicious.

Dratted vegans. All the takeaway veggie pizzas locally now come with vegan "cheez" as standard if you're not careful, and it's disgusting. It's nice they are finally getting more options for vegans as god knows provision used to be so limited. I wish they were in addition to veggie stuff, not totally replacing it.

And yes, FFS give us back sugar in pop. It all tastes horrible now, I'm switching to only water or booze.

I contacted Fentiman’s today about their rose lemonade and got the following response. I will be hot-footing it to Asda later!

At present the 150ml mixer pack for Rose Lemonade hasn’t been switched over to reduced sugar. You can also get our products from Asda who also haven’t switched to our reduced sugar range. I can’t guarantee if you buy from our shop, you will get the original recipe and the website will be updated shortly.

I don’t really drink pop at home or I might stock up too. Maybe I’ll try and get some Fentimans Cherry Cola as that’s lovely in the summer with ice cream in. My main issue is having a nice nonalcoholic drink at the pub.

May have nipped to Farm Foods….. in my defence the cherry coke is DHs and this will go into my store cupboard and probably last us a year if the adult DC don’t spot them when they visit.
Farm Foods still has original Pepsi by me and is £22 for 2 crates.

OMG @NailsForBreakfastTacksForSnacks party at yours, I’ll bring the ice cream. Let’s do coke floats!

I don’t even know what a Farm Foods is and those pallets are larger than my flat but I’m loving the dedication to the cause. You know we will be breaking your door down come the revolution? The first rule of prepping is no one talks about Fight Club…or something.

And on first glance I was so amazed by the vast amounts of sugary pop I didn’t even NOTICE ET and the Star-wars merch.

Party at @NailsForBreakfastTacksForSnacks' house so we can check out the rest of this amazing room and enjoy sugary drinks. 😁

12 months time I’ll be selling it fiver a can 😂

shoved it in the office/Star Wars room temporarily. I’ll deal with it over the weekend. I’m fortunate to have an empty airing cupboard since the tank was moved so use it to bulk buy from Costco etc. Farm Foods is ok for drinks as the crates work out much better than buying the smaller packs in Tesco etc.
And omg I’ve. It had a coke float for bloody years! I think that might have to come tomorrow now as well.

@Tarkan you can have DHs cherry coke. Never understood why he loves it so much.

Tarkan · 25/03/2023 00:04

I do love a Cherry Coke. 😁 It's the closest thing I can get to Dr Pepper nowadays which I used to love but again, they added sweeteners. I once paid £2.50 for a can of an imported US Dr Pepper just to have one again. 🙈

I accidentally clicked on this thread and have no regrets about that after seeing that pic! I have zero opinion on sugar vs the others, I think I have bad taste buds as I can never taste the difference.
BUt would you like to adopt a new family member? That room is awesome. Can we see more of ET 👆

IntheSnowySnowyMountains · 25/03/2023 00:30

I know this is more about drinking out than in... but Teisseire sirops are still full sugar. I am lucky enough to be in France where the sugar tax nonsense doesn't exist, so can buy them in my local supermarket, but I believe you can get them in the U.K. through Waitrose or Ocado. Lots of flavours to chose from. Sorry it doesn't solves the ginger beer or tonic water problem - i feel your pain!

Ah, that will explain why I managed to get the mixer cans of Fentimans Ginger Beer in the supermarket yesterday. I bought all the boxes they had. Swapping to Fevertree once I can no longer get them.

You come on MN to talk about sweeteners and discover that some people have Star Wars rooms in their homes. I’d love to see the Rightmove description.

I completely accept our house is a bit odd.
Thankfully we have no plans to sell or the right move photos could end up on here 😂

Camdenish · 25/03/2023 12:09

And yup, the local independent grocer sells Teisseire and French and Arab food and drinks. I’ll probably take some syrup with me to the pub, in a hip flask, and if no decent pops are available I’ll have it with fizzy water.

I would rejoice in your RightMove photos if that happened @NailsForBreakfastTacksForSnacks Grin

You have to have some fun in your life. We have a display cabinet in our living room just for Warhammer stuff and from where I'm sitting I can see Pickle Rick and Miss Marvel Funko Pops, a model of the Planet Express ship from Futurama, a fake plant pot in the shape of a wee green alien from Toy Story, a crocheted Totoro and a Corpse Bride candle. I have more Corpse Bride stuff in the bathroom and a model of the shrunken head from Beetlejuice hanging on my hallway wall. There's Rick and Morty and Doctor Who mugs on the kitchen window sill and you'll find random small Dr Who figures of daleks and weeping angels and the characters from My Neighbour Totoro in random places too.

We have more Rick and Morty stuff and quite a few Baby Yoda things in DH's man cave in the loft too.

This is all in between a lot of less nerdy stuff too, we like our random stuff. Marie Kondo would have a heart attack.

Oh and this doesn't include the approximate 75+ rubber duckies in my bathroom. Grin

Had a cold recently and lost my sense of smell/taste for four days. Randomly thought "oooo dandelion and burdock when I can taste again" ...not had in ages...saw Fentimans and remembered they were one for charging a bit more but not subbing the sugar out - took it off the shelf to double check.... God damn stevia!

For some reason I can do aspartame fine - Pepsi max for e.g. - but I despise sucralose and stevia...I'm not exaggerating when I say it's like someone's crumbled half a paracetamol in my drink to me, nothing dodgy bowel wise etc just that horrid "christ not again..." after taste when I swig a drink that used to be fine.

It really is a disheartening thing to think the future is just brews/water/a handful of fizzy drink with aspartame in because 85% have had a truly rank ingredient added. Even brands that are like "non of that sweetener crap!" that charge more but have a niche market seem to end up doing it - "Soda Folk" root beer WAS a fave I was willing to pay a bit more for... I like slightly odd medicinal tasting drinks but...Do I have to learn to brew them myself....

I assume it's the sugar tax (that the business is hit with but we don't even see a difference with) so full sugar hurts profit?

Snoopsnoggysnog · 14/04/2023 17:37

Coming back to this thread to say that I just bought some pink lemonade from Flying Tiger, if all places, for my teen DD’s sleepover.
It has only sugar, no sweeteners at all!
I can’t remember how much it was but probably £3
