Guess how much

Just been to Asda for my weekly shop. Anyone want to guess how much it was?

I usually use Tesco online but today thought fuck it, spice up your life and try something new.

I'm little bit surprised that people saying it's "extravagant". It depends on family, if kids eating at school and parents at work - it's basically only one meal in the evening and something for breakfast. It's triple amount of food if one/both parents taking packed lunch/working from home and there are toddlers at home.

GoodChat · 17/03/2023 18:00

It doesn't count if you're including 2 bottles of wine and a bottle of gin!

FrangipaniBlue · 17/03/2023 18:01

I can well believe that!

I spent £110 in Aldi today and that wasn't even a proper shop.

It was all "fridge stuff" for mine and DH lunches for the next week ie fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy.

I topped up a handful things we've used out of the freezer/cupboard that maybe came to about £20.

If you eat lots of fresh healthy food it's extortionate compared to processed freezer and packaged stuff.

We exclusively shop in Aldi with the exception of milk and eggs that we get delivered by a milkman. 2 adults + teen DS. If I averaged it out I reckon we spend £150-£175pw on our shopping, so with Asda prices I can well believe a weekly shop cost cost you £230.

£70…never shopped in there but have heard it’s cheap .

Although I'm still gobsmacked. I shopped for 4 today plus the dog in Morrisons and got a full weeks worth of shopping for £85

flutterbyebaby · 17/03/2023 18:07

Bloody hell I shop for 3 adults, 10 kids, 5 cats, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits and a duck, and only spend £25, and I make it stretch a fortnight, wtf are you buying? 😆😆😆😆😆

Doesn't wine count as 1 of the 5 a day?

Nugg · 17/03/2023 18:11

@ssd go on guess, it's only a game 😆

GoodChat · 17/03/2023 18:12

@flutterbyebaby good point, well made

The total came to nearly £230 😱😪😭

£230 for three of you? What on earth did you buy? Asda is cheap, my fancy Christmas shop didn’t come to as much as that. We eat very well and it costs us much less than that each week.

Riapia · 17/03/2023 18:29

Fuck me OP you must live well.
I’d give your family a fiver a week to shit on my allotment.

Dartmoorcheffy · 17/03/2023 18:57

That must be a lot of food.

Grin It’s clearly a stealth boast thread - oh poor me - just look how much I was forced to spend…

MrNook · 17/03/2023 19:09

I spent £75 a week at Asda for two adults and a toddler but we don't eat meat, fish or drink alcohol.

I've noticed Asda getting more and more expensive, got exactly the same things last week at Morrisons and it was £11 cheaper

🤣🤣🤣 brilliant

YukoandHiro · 17/03/2023 21:10

I paid that for a family of four for a fortnight including expensive nappies and night pull ups and cleaning things (but no wine) in sainos

I think Asda are taking the piss

mondaytosunday · 17/03/2023 21:18

Im not surprised. I have four pets and spend £25 on food just for them. A couple bottles wine that's another £12. So £37 and not bought any food yet.

Dontknowwhyidoit · 17/03/2023 21:42

I have just done a weekly shop at Asda for a family of 5 ( 2 adults 3 children). It came to £118 but was reduced to £106 with my blue light savings. This included 2 mother's Day cards and 2 bottles of wine for mother's Day gifts.

KylieKangaroo · 17/03/2023 22:23

I've found that going into the shops I spend far more. Last week in Tesco 120 this week online only 70! So I'm shopping online only now.

GlassBunion · 17/03/2023 22:53

That sounds a lot from Asda. I'm surprised.

summerfinn · 17/03/2023 23:04

I'm laughing I live In Ireland and our weekly food shop is 250 euro which is about 220 pounds. That's for 2 adults and teenager and toddler. Everything is so much more expensive Ireland 😭 we don't drink alcohol either.

posygir · 17/03/2023 23:31

Seems a lot. We spend around that in Waitrose and 4DC!!

If you buy a lot of fruit/veg we've started to buy some frozen, saves a bit of money and stops things going to waste.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 17/03/2023 23:37

I cannot imagine how you filled 8 bags with £240 of food and drink and little else and are now surprised at how much you spent. That would appear, to me, to be indiscriminate grabbing of anything - and I am The Queen of buying what I fancy.
