Guess how much

Just been to Asda for my weekly shop. Anyone want to guess how much it was?

I usually use Tesco online but today thought fuck it, spice up your life and try something new.

That's not a weekly shop for 3 people though. There's 5 of us with nappies and wine every week and don't spend anything like that. What on earth did you buy?

StylishM · 17/03/2023 14:13

I've fed 2 adults, 3 DC and DCat for £130 at sainsburys... what the fuck are you spending £230 on?! Is that for a fortnight?

Diorinthecountry · 17/03/2023 14:42

Honestly I can assure you that's a weekly shop for us. It did include 2 bottles of wine and a small bottle of gin plus 3 bottles of Asda tonic water. I tried to buy as much Asda own as possible. I did buy loads of fruit and veg.

Do you eat huge amounts of meat? Branded fizzy drinks/snacks/lunch items/cleaning products or something? I am honestly baffled as to how you spent that much.

Unless the gin and wine were very very spendy ones then that can surely only be about £30-£40 of your total, what's the other £200?!

LubaLuca · 17/03/2023 15:25

You must have bought more than a week's worth of provisions, unless you eat vast amounts at home. That's about £30 each a day.

Diorinthecountry · 17/03/2023 15:40

Didn't buy cleaning products. I did buy a lot of meat. I seriously need to look into reducing our food shop amount.

blimey. we do a shop for a family of 5 at tesco and spend less than that per week!

pavillion1 · 17/03/2023 16:01

crikey thats horrendous. i get the hump if i hit £120 family of 4 at tesco

3WildOnes · 17/03/2023 16:05

We are a family of 5 and we spend less than half that amount. You must be throwing away vast amounts of food.
We dint shop in asda.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/03/2023 16:11

I'm finding ocado the cheapest atm

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 17/03/2023 16:12

That's a lot. We are 3 adults and 1 cat and we spend around £150 per week which includes cleaning supplies. We don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks though and have cut down on meat to keep costs down.

It's quite cheerless doing the food shop nowadays.

thecathasbeenfed · 17/03/2023 16:14

We had pretty much the same experience last week!

Usually shop at Aldi and then bits during the week at Waitrose - there's a Waitrose v close to where we live so it's easier.

Shopped at Asda and it was £220! Our usual weekly shop at Aldi is around £160. I thought Asda was one of cheaper supermarkets?!

mycatsanutter · 17/03/2023 16:21

That's an awful lot ! There are 3 of us and I spend about £120 every 10-14 days

No, definitely not each. 😬

ssd · 17/03/2023 16:33

Listen my life would bore the socks of you but when it gets that bad i need to guess how much someone spent in asda I'll fucking top myself

Diorinthecountry · 17/03/2023 16:44

@ssd 🤣

I don't fling anything out. Didn't buy fizzy juice.

@thecathasbeenfed sorry for your experience but glad it's not just me Grin

I cook from scratch daily and we eat healthy. Dd has been moaning I don't buy snacks except fruit so I bought her mini muffins, a rustler burger, crisps and milkshake.

Honestly I've had a sick feeling in my stomach since I paid.

Pointless thread.

Asda the same like Sainsburys now, I couldn't do weekly shopping for a family less than £150. Nothing fancy, we don't eat beef or lamb, only chicken. No alcohol.

Diorinthecountry · 17/03/2023 17:05

@Lostmummy5 it's scary. Think we will need to cut down on meat, fish etc. I can remember when me and dh first moved in together our monthly shop at Asda was £100 and the trolly was overflowing.

What did you get for that though? I mean it’s easy to spend money, but equally it depends on what you’re buying.

I e.g. buy frozen chicken fillets as they are only about half the price of fresh ones, frozen fish etc.

If you’re buying steak and wine and lamb joints etc you could easily spend that on a weekly shop.

But you can also easily not spend that much.

DanceMonster · 17/03/2023 17:08

We shop at Asda. 2 adults, 3 children. All cooked from scratch. Ours is usually around £150. What are you buying??

mackerella · 17/03/2023 17:23

Blimey, we spend around £100 per week (sometimes £120 if there are a lot of snacks and booze), and that's in Waitrose! Two adults, two tweens. But the kids both have school lunches, and we don't eat meat. I'd actually love to see what's on some of these shopping bills to make them so high.

MayThe4th · 17/03/2023 17:50

We absolutely do eat meat and like you I spend around £100/120 a week and that includes cleaning products.

OP clearly lives extravagantly to b spending this much, which is why this thread is kind of pointless because it gives absolutely no context.

LubaLuca · 17/03/2023 17:55

MiamiMyAmy · 17/03/2023 16:21

No, definitely not each. 😬

Yes, sorry, £30 each day.
