Just to pass the time. As many as you like. In no particular order. I've reduced mine to three but there's a few more I could list:

Starman
Golden Years
Sound and Vision.

Oh @Elderflower14 not only to lay eyes on David Bowie but to amuse him. How absolutely wonderful.
I have visited the Hansa studios in Berlin and played the piano he composed Heroes on. I mean I can’t play just did a few notes. Someone else in the group played Life On Mars on it and it was goosebumps all round!
Hansa studio tour is amazing for Bowie fans if you ever get the chance to go.

@Elderflower14 wow.

I remember you telling this.

I wonder why he was smiling there is nothing remarkable about looking around a room.
Maybe you beguiled him 😍

DB and pianist Mike Garson once performed a very stripped-down version of Life On Mars on Parkinson. It was quite stunning.

Absolute beginners. I can't even explain.

It’s the sax, the opening chords, remembering being young and desperately in love. It’s so evocative for me.
‘If our love song. Could fly over mountains. Sail over heartaches. Just like the films’

Yes, Absolute Beginners is wonderful. It's quite soaring, the vocal is yearning and sort of bursting with love. Musically it's immensely nostalgic too – like a 50s coming of age that one didn't have but wants!

tothesea · 19/03/2023 17:37

Oh yes so much yearning! Such a descriptive word.

Newgolddream04 · 19/03/2023 17:54

I like Jean Jeanie and Absolute Beginners.

I have another which I don't think has been mentioned here and it was my Mum's favourite. DB was in a band called David Bowie and The Lower Third and it was in the early sixties, I think. The song is called I Can't Help Thinking About Me and I love it. Give it a Google :-)

Width of a Circle (David Live double album)
Ziggy Stardust
Dancing in the Street (duet with Mick Jagger)
China Girl

Loving this thread and all the songs mentioned. Plus the one mentioned in my username...from the album "Outside" which as also a masterpiece.

Never saw him live but love reading stories of those who met and saw him play concerts. Thank you to @WildRosie for starting this thread and to @Elderflower14 for the funny story!
