Just to pass the time. As many as you like. In no particular order. I've reduced mine to three but there's a few more I could list:

Starman
Golden Years
Sound and Vision.

Hallo Spaceboy
I’m Afraid of Americans
Five Years

It might change tomorrow though

DeeCeeCherry · 15/03/2023 23:03

Space Oddity.

I can't listen to it since my Dad died, think it reminds of being young when it was out, all at home & happy. & the lyrics are poignant. But I will forever love this song

Oh You Pretty Things
Starman

Turmerictolly · 15/03/2023 23:06

Loved the Moonage Daydream documentary, I thought it really captured the essence of Bowie.

So many good songs

Lady Grinning Soul
Queen Bitch
John, I'm only Dancing
Panic in Detroit

Entirely appropriate I'd say.
(as I glance at a black and white photo we have of him in our living room 😆)

Billy Porter!

Everything with the exception of the Laughing Gnome and even that makes me laugh on a good day.

I going to see Akhnaten in the West End next week, totally new to me, not an opera I am familiar with so I was listening to it last week and one of the tracks sounds eerily like Blackstar, I am too tired to go through the whole opera but will try and come back to this thread and link it. It was most unsettling, not as unsettling if it had been a dead composer but Phillip Glass is still alive.

God that makes me sound poncetastic and I am really not. Grin

Word on a wing.

Stunning, written during his addiction.

WildRosie · 16/03/2023 04:33

Glad this thread has been so well received.

They are all amazing but many on the Hunky Dory album plus Heroes is outstanding.

vivaespanaole · 16/03/2023 07:40

I think Sorrow is very underrated.
It's the happiest sad song ever.

CoachCarter · 16/03/2023 08:04

Hollywood Vampires do an amazing cover of Heroes with Johnny Depp on lead vocals. We’ll worth checking out.

open.spotify.com/track/3h9AYCbqaDWtmefuQsrzHM?si=eBUb4qlBSB6mIyyfytIZ4A. Akhenaten

Bowie - From 7 minutes and 42 seconds in.

Akhenaten is written by Philip Glass

Phillip Glass covered some of Bowies work.

The minimalist opera genre is best categorised by its use of repetitive sounds over long periods, which has a hypnotic, meditative feel. Although his works can be described as minimalist, Glass prefers to describe himself as a composer of 'music with repetitive structures/

Which I feel Blackstar has.

Lycanthropology · 16/03/2023 16:14

Life on Mars. It's the best song ever.

Also:
Queen Bitch, Starman, Suffragette City, Rock n Roll Suicide, Heroes.

WildRosie · 16/03/2023 18:54

Does anyone remember 'John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)? It was released as a single around Christmas 1979 but I think was on the Young Americans album. It's quite different from the original song.

Not yet - will take a look at both at the weekend. I need to remember whereabouts in the garage they are first 😂

Diamond Dogs

Really happy time in my life but there are so many of his songs I’m a life long fan and so many of my memories have Bowie playing in the background.

Yes, I hated it. I was 10 years old and remember it being in the charts. I'd grown up on my parents' Bowie albums but this I hated.
Also The Laughing Gnome Hmm

Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Modern Love
