We're all red nosed and snotty so I'm making a big pot of chicken noodle soup. DH is for chicken and rice soup but that's wrong imo Grin

Vick on my chest, and a mug of hot water honey, lemon and whisky.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/03/2023 15:06

Hot squash/cordial it used to be Rubén's but they ruined it with sweetners so now I get the M&S blackcurrant cordial especially for drinking hot.

Whiskey

Nurofen cold and flu is the only thing that works for me. It makes you feel human in 20 mins.

Latenightreader · 12/03/2023 15:13

I like fresh tomato soup (not cream of tomato) with those twists made of flaky, oniony pastry (savoury biscuit aisle of the supermarket). Honey and lemon to drink. Small tots of whisky too, just to kill the germs in my throat...

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 12/03/2023 15:14

@FatAgainItsLettuceTime - is that M&S cordial without sweeteners? I’ve given up drinking Ribena. All I can taste is the sweeteners.

I mainline Vitamin C. I’ve got slow release tablets. I take them 2-3 times a day when unwell. It can have a laxative effect though!

IndulgentFrazzle · 12/03/2023 15:16

My mum used to make hot orange! I must pick something up next time I'm out.

Steam inhalations of Neal’s Yard Organic Defence essential oil blend.

ThisIsTheGreatestShow · 12/03/2023 15:25

For any type of cold, flu or other seasonal lurgy my go to is hard liquor and hot curry. If it doesn't work then I won't care! 😂

OnMyWayToSenility · 12/03/2023 15:32

Massage Vicks on the soles of your feet and put socks on, works wonders!

Nice spicy Thai soup will help too 😀

Box of tissues on the bedside table, wrap up in loads of blankets in bed.
Occasional shuffle to the kitchen to make a coffee or hot peach squash with honey.
Chicken soup to eat.

At what age does it become appropriate to dose up on hard liquor?

Eyeing up my seven year old.... [only kidding]

Always swore by paracetamol/brufen/Sudafed combo, ample honey & lemon. + simple cough linctus as required.

Then discovered night nurse. It works. You just can't drink with it.

Badger1970 · 12/03/2023 16:08

High dose vitamin C always works for me, morning and night.

And hot water with a squeeze of honey and slice of lemon.

Echobelly · 12/03/2023 16:12

For me, Otravine spray or drops are totally amazing at unblocking my nose enough for me to sleep or to function in the daytime. Unless the cold is a real stinker, the effects last 6-8 hours. I basically always take a bottle on holiday (as I'm forever getting colds from being on planes) so it doesn't have to spoil my break if it happens.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 12/03/2023 16:13

Someone once recommended brandy, ginger wine, honey and hot lemonade to me but said have two and be generous with the measures. It did nothing to cure the cold but I went to bed and slept like a dream without the cold bothering me much. Not a remedy for kids though!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/03/2023 16:16

Ibuprofen, tissues, olbas oil and vaseline. Add sofa, blanket and remote control.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 12/03/2023 16:16

A spoon of honey, slice of lemon and a pinch or two of ginger. Hot water. Drink it.

TonTonMacoute · 12/03/2023 16:18

Benelin Day and Night tablets, Otrovine nasal spray at night and a hot toddy with a biblical amount of scotch.

HurdyGurdy19 · 12/03/2023 16:20

I'm on week 5 of a cold, and bloody sick of it now.

Otrivine nose drops or spray to unblock the nose, paracetamol for temperature, and hot water with honey and lemon and a good slug of rum, just for the feel-good factor.

stbrandonsboat · 12/03/2023 16:21

Hot lemon, honey and ginger.

MyMachineAndMe · 12/03/2023 16:21

Hot lemonade with honey and lemon juice stirred in while it's on the hob, served with a couple of paracetamols.

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 12/03/2023 16:24

Lemsip max and chocolate…hope you feel better soon….I’m just getting over a 2 weeker….. I was rough as chuff and grumpy too …xx

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/03/2023 16:28

Worth mentioning tree pollen here too as anyone getting a cold at this time of year should consider hayfever as a possibility. Try anti-histamines for a couple of days and see if that helps.
