I was okay yesterday last night in bed my left side of the throat starting hurting and it’s really painful when I swallow something I also have a bit of earache and swollen lymph node. I cant get a ap appointment and cant get through to NHS 111 any advice? I really don’t want to go to AE unnecessarily but it really hurts when I swallow 😩😩

Paracetamol and plenty of fluids. Take to your bed ☺️

Tinypetunia · 11/03/2023 10:57

Keep trying with 111, you should get through eventually.

Auntieobem · 11/03/2023 10:57

A&e for a sore throat??????? This has to be a wind up. Salt water gargle and a couple of paracetamol.

Do you have a walk in clinic or urgent treatment centre nearby?

Username721 · 11/03/2023 10:58

You definitely don't need to go to A&E with this, totally not appropriate based on what you’ve written. I wouldn’t even bother my GP with something like that.

Painkillers, hot drink, rest. Maybe an antiseptic throat spray if you have one. Couple of days and you’ll be right.

CuriousMama · 11/03/2023 10:59

Drugs fluid and bed. What do you think a medical professional will advise?

Newuser82 · 11/03/2023 10:59

I would take some painkillers, maybe get some difflam spray and if still unwell on Monday give the gp a call.

loobylou10 · 11/03/2023 11:01

Paracetamol, fluids, bed.
No GP, 111, AE needed.
Wow!!

PutinTheFuckingBasket · 11/03/2023 11:02

Yep, doesn't sound anywhere near serious enough to bother a medical professional with. Drink plenty of water, take paracetamol, go to bed

holierthanthou73 · 11/03/2023 11:02

Jesus wept How did people manage before MN

user40816 · 11/03/2023 11:05

You'd be torn a new one if you turned up to some kind of UTC/A&E with a 12 hour sore throat. Rightly so.

Itsallok · 11/03/2023 11:06

Surely not a true question

NishaaS123 · 11/03/2023 11:06

Thanks for the kind replies everyone. I do have anxiety and when I googled my symptoms it said some worrying things which freaked me out.
it really hurts to swallow on one side I was just worried so came on here.

Do you have any underlying health issues, OP?

Auntieobem · 11/03/2023 11:07

@NishaaS123 is this your first sore throat? Do you have health anxiety? Why do you think you need medical help?? I find this post totally bizarre.

Surely not a true question

Can't be? Must be a wind up. Or someone who works at a&e pissed off seeing this too often? Or reverse even though not AIBU?

Honestly, there’s nothing for you to worry about. I have a kid at nursery and thanks to him bringing all the bugs home, I get those kinds of sore throats all of the time. I have one just fading now, actually. It’ll be gone in a matter of days.

Fluids, paracetamol, couch/bed. Sorted.

CuriousMama · 11/03/2023 11:08

No it's totally normal especially in winter.

AndTheSurveySays · 11/03/2023 11:08

Have you never had a sore throat before? I know you say you have anxiety but come on, you're an adult.

Auntieobem · 11/03/2023 11:08

Cross Post. What worrying things came up when you googled?

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this!

CollieFIower · 11/03/2023 11:09

Take some paracetamol, drink some honey and lemon, and stay warm. Drink lots of fluids and rest.

See how you feel in 24 hours.

This is absolutely not a matter that needs medical attention at this point in time.

CrotchetyCrocheting · 11/03/2023 11:10

I have a sore throat etc at the moment and am just taking paracetamoland getting on with it. If it is really bothering you wisit your local pharmacy and ask for some over the counter medication. You can get sprays, gargles, etc that help numb your throat. A cold in March isn't something to worry about.

Mindymomo · 11/03/2023 11:11

Have you looked into throat, is it just sore red or is there any white nodules which would indicate infection and would need antibiotics, so call 111 who will arrange a GP appointment. Difflam spray from chemist is very good for sore throats along with paracetamol.

Speedweed · 11/03/2023 11:12

Here's the test: google 'private doctor's appointment - there are loads of apps with same day video appointments. You'll pay about 40 quid upwards for the appointment, plus the cost of any medication they prescribe under a private prescription (say, another 20 quid plus).

If you're thinking, no way that's too expensive, you can stay calm - you're absolutely fine, you can wait it out with the excellent advice from previous posters, and you have no need to burden our precious nhs with your foolishness. Hurrah!
