Just tuned in to Radio 2 for the announcement. Great choice imho. I can sing the chorus after just one listen. listen here

I heard it too. Hmmm, good performance and production, sounds up-to-date, and is definitely an 'ear worm' as they said, but I don't love it. Very simple, and I think it's songs with some emotion that do well.

Appalonia · 09/03/2023 08:50

Dreadful autotuned rubbish. The comments underneath that clip are pretty scathing too. Nul points from me!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/03/2023 08:52

Sounds very European, catchy, perky, alright video.

Douzepoints · 09/03/2023 09:05

It's catchy but that's all there is to it and is not the type of song that does well in Eurovision these days. It's all a bit 5 years ago, if you ask me. As a PP said, there's no heart and emotion, it's a bit "eurovision by numbers".

Having said that, a lot will depend on the staging at the final.

I predict a solid mid-table place, which we would have killed for before 2022 but now we'll see it as a failure and disappointment. There will be a lot of "and after we bailed out Ukraine and put on such an amazing show" complaints and we'll decide there's no point in trying anymore, which means next year, we'll be back to some vapid song with cheal production, or a has-been artist.

Yiayoula · 09/03/2023 09:31

I like it ! Very catchy, and Mae performs it well.
Fingers crossed …..🇬🇧

WindowGazers · 09/03/2023 09:39

I think it's awful. Boring and generic.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 09/03/2023 09:42

Oooh that song is absolutely terrible. Obviously the UK not keen on hosting Eurovision again (cost of living crisis) so making sure by using that entry.

OddshoesOddsocks · 09/03/2023 09:43

Dd was dancing round the kitchen shouting ‘it’s good! It’s good!’ So it’s a yes from her!

maybe not a winner but hopefully not an embarrassment!

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/03/2023 09:44

I loved it.💃💃💃

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 09/03/2023 09:56

Disappointed - it's no Spaceman is it?
I think my DD, (14), nailed it, she commented that the song is banal drivel and the artist sounds like every other bland, auto tuned, generic girl singer around now.
Who knows though - if it takes off and gets played in the European clubs before the competition then it might do ok.

ThreeRingCircus · 09/03/2023 09:59

It's not my thing and sounds far too autotuned and generic so I think a lot will depend on how her vocals are live on the night. Hopefully they stage it really well and we're in the second half of the running order as I appreciate it's catchy.

She seems lovely though so if she approaches it with enthusiasm and the right attitude, like Sam did last year then I hope she does well.

Shade17 · 09/03/2023 10:12

Insipid, instantly forgettable dross. We’ll be lucky not to finish last.

pandora206 · 09/03/2023 10:20

It's catchy but not that memorable. It needed something unexpected - a key change or a different tempo partway through maybe - to hold attention and stand out from the crowd.

Yiayoula · 09/03/2023 10:33

I didn’t especially like Spaceman , but Sam’s personality and enthusiasm, plus touring in Europe before the contest went a long way to getting people behind the song.

As Creamcrackers said, if the European clubs take it up Mae could do well.

booboo82 · 09/03/2023 10:35

Absolutely bloody awful crap ! Literally no point entering

maddiemookins16mum · 09/03/2023 10:36

It’s fabulous, if you listen you can hear little bits of Spanish guitar, little bits of Greek dancing music etc etc, it’s quite frankly perfect for Eurovision.

EsmaCannonball · 09/03/2023 10:49

It's very generic and a bit ...... downmarket? I don't think it helps that the singer gives off a very surly teenager vibe, whereas Sam Ryder won people over with his positivity and infectious enthusiasm.

I also think the UK should have provided the venue for the contest and then handed the whole creative shebang over to a Ukrainian production team. It doesn't sit right with me that it's being fronted by mainly British presenters, and so on.

Agree, I also think it is an empowering song for women. I love the video too, but maybe as I’ve always had an interest in dolls houses.

GoChasingWaterfalls · 09/03/2023 10:57

Am I the only one who thought it incredibly bland?

thecatsthecats · 09/03/2023 11:10

Chirpy break up songs don't usually win Eurovision, but they're not trying to win Eurovision.

They're launching an artist with a big platform, with a perky song aimed at Gen Z, Anne Marie type fans.

Which is the smart thing to do. The biggest streamed song came nowhere last year!

Badbudgeter · 09/03/2023 11:14

I think it's a bit bland, middle table maybe I think we get points just for hosting surely? I think Ukraine will win and hopefully get to host themselves next year.

rioseco · 09/03/2023 11:38

Really like it as a Eurovision song and the sentiment behind it is great.

It's costing us up to 18 mil to host. Can't see Ukraine hosting this time next year personally.

ginghamstarfish · 09/03/2023 14:13

I'm amazed there is still interest in this outdated load of crap! What a giant waste of money.

Totally agree with @EsmaCannonball

Sam Ryder’s song was beautifully and impressively sung, but more importantly its lyrics were about feeling lost, cut adrift in the universe, and homesick. Perfect as a diplomatic post-Brexit ‘we miss you’ to Europe.

This year’s entry isn’t our worst ever, but it’s firmly back in the ‘crap song’ era and it is insulting to Europe to enter a song that’s this poor. We needed Harry Styles, we got a rude immarture person no-one’s heard of, singing a spiteful moany song. A bad pick.

We might still place ok but if we do it’ll be because of our support for Ukraine and despite this song not because of it.
