This is around my level too but I keep being told it's within normal range. I am tired with hair thinning and aching joints.

Have you had your Thyroid levels checked

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 10:27

am I right thinking this is the iron store level rather than the iron circulating in the blood ?

OP posts:
Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 10:27

Yeah thyroid is fine

OP posts:
Didjesuspoop · 07/03/2023 11:28

It is still very low and only just on the border. That result doesn’t rule out an iron deficiency and your GP should Correlate with clinical details, CRP and transferrin
saturation. It wouldn’t hurt to take an over the counter iron supplement whilst you wait for your GP, ask for a pharmacists advice. Hope you start to feel better soon, low iron can make you feel really rotten!

Todoctorornottodoctor · 07/03/2023 11:38

Ask for your b12 and thyroid to be checked as they both can cause these issues

Didjesuspoop · 07/03/2023 11:38

And also b9 to be checked! (Folate)

Crikeyalmighty · 07/03/2023 11:41

I've got the other way- 154

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 11:48

Serum vitamin B12 level 605 ng/L [197.0 - 771.0]
Serum folate level 19.5 ug/L [3.0 - 20.0]

and vitamin d was normal

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 11:48

What is serum folate level ?

OP posts:
Didjesuspoop · 07/03/2023 12:01

Serum folate is b9/folic acid but yours looks good!

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 12:08

Yeah that’s nearly on max !!

OP posts:
Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 12:09

So is my problem my iron stores are low but that the iron in my blood is ok it’s more that fact my reserve are low ?

OP posts:
Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 12:10

It is low, I felt awful when mine was that low. It’s now over 50 and I feel much more human. Are you taking any supplements? You can buy them yourself you don’t need to be prescribed them so I would start asap. My GP prescribed when my level went under 30 though as they said it was deemed low. I found Spatone helped me when I took it consistently.

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 12:47

Yeah I’ve been taking ferrousfumarete for two months now and it’s barely gone up

How did you get yours up ?
And so you still take anything now ?

OP posts:
Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 13:30

Mine seems to be caused by heavy periods

OP posts:
Sotired22 · 07/03/2023 13:34

@Bluetitnest Sorry this won’t help you but the way I got mine up was not being pregnant anymore! Mine dropped hugely in pregnancy (it was 7 at its lowest and I felt awful). It has climbed back up as a natural consequence of not having a leach living in me anymore! But I did find that Spatone every day improved how I felt. It helped the dizziness and tiredness. I now have folate deficiency instead, so am on high strength supplements to try get that up.

Bluetitnest · 07/03/2023 18:02

Oh ok thanks anyway
but hope you sort that out too 💐

Mines barely out of single figures ever because they act on Haemoglobin levels with infusions. I think it's the protein that bonds to iron stores. Did they not check your iron levels and Haemoglobin?
I recently needed several emergency blood transfusions and iron infusions. My ferritin was at 3, iron was 3 and Haemoglobin was 3.8.

gezzab33 · 07/03/2023 18:15

Ferritin would be better if it was closer to 100. It causes all manner of symptoms but we are all different. The highest I've got mine is 75 so far, but I lose hair when it goes below 50 and have anxiety and a host of other symptoms. I use Simply Heme by Three Arrows and it got me from 13 to 75 quite quickly.

CapitanSandy · 07/03/2023 18:19

Yes my ferritin was exactly the same in January and I felt so rough ,exhausted, achy and very anxious.
It was posting on here and finding out more about other people’s experiences that helped realise I needed tablets rather than accepting it as being normal.
A month in and I’m slowly starting to feel better.
Hope you feel better soon!
