What is the point of Phill Jupitus?

He's not funny and he always takes things too far. He just doesn't know when to stop!
I can't even remember when he first appeared on TV, but I wish he'd go now.

We saw him live a few years ago too and were really disappointed. We were expecting stand up and what we got was 80% a poetry recital. One about mums in Waitrose is the only one I can remember.

Was this his porky the poet persona? I think he started off as a performance poet back in the day. I met him about 8ish years ago - I was dating one of his friends. We saw him perform (was that exciting I can't remember what it was about but it involved poetry...), and then we all went out for a meal.
He seemed nice enough to me.

No, it was definitely advertised as stand up comedy. Poetry isn’t really my cup of tea, so I probably would have given it a miss if I’d seen any mention of it. I’d seen a couple of clips of his stand up previously and thought he was quite funny, so he was on my list of people to see. As poetry recitals go, I’m sure it was quite a good one. It just wasn’t what we were expecting.

Blast from the past, didn’t realise that he was still on TV. I only remember him from Buzzcocks, 20+ years ago. Is Mark Lamar still about too? Neither were exactly nice, or particularly funny for that matter.
