What is a curtain bang? Pelmet? Dangly edging on the bottom? And mulletty?

hopeishere · 05/03/2023 16:25

Bang/s is American for fringe.

My hairdresser is trying to persuade me to get them. I'm not sure.

VenusClapTrap · 05/03/2023 16:26

Oh please tell me we aren’t swapping ‘fringe’ for ‘bangs’ now.

LadyJ2023 · 05/03/2023 16:26

Huh curtain bangs? What's that in the modern world lol

bert3400 · 05/03/2023 16:29

If we are talking haircuts ...Curtains are very much a thing, my 14DS has a lovely pair of curtains that he's been cultivating for 18months
If we are talking interior design - I have no frigging idea, what Curtain Bangs are ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2023 16:31

If it's the long hair , centre parting that falls over your eyes and requires the wearer to jerk their head back every couple of steps to actually see where they are going but risk giving themselves a neck injury ...then I hope so .

Is it trendy to make yourself look so ridiculous ?

Style much beloved of teenage boys round here a few years ago

Sarahcoggles · 05/03/2023 16:31

Please no not another Americanism, I can't bear it. Why is there an obsession with adopting American words? What's wrong with our English words?
Bangs =fringe
Diaper = nappy
Sidewalk = pavement
We have perfectly good words that have been used for generations. Why do we have to change them?

louise5754 · 05/03/2023 16:56

Curtain bangs aren't the same as the 90s boys hairstyle.

Absofuckinglutely.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/03/2023 17:05

I'm just hoping the Venetian Quiff makes a comeback.

justasking111 · 05/03/2023 17:05

Grew out my fringe now have long layers. I never knew they were called this. Hairdressers said that it would give my hair more bounce and frame my face.

Gee I've got the look 😂😂

🙌

I called it a long fringe.

TidyDancer · 05/03/2023 17:14

I genuinely thought this thread was about actual window curtains/pelmets. Then realised it maybe wasn't based on what others have said and it's that it's about hair. Now we just need the OP to come back and clarify it is an interior design thread and my mind will have gone full circle!

Where does the word 'bangs' come from anyway? Fringe makes sense, I don't get what bangs is supposed to mean!

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 05/03/2023 17:21

I also thought this was something to with window coverings but if it's hairstyles the photos don't look anything like a mullet so that doesn't make sense either

WeAreTheHeroes · 05/03/2023 17:22

I did read the thread title and think it was an Americanism for a pelmet. But it's Sunday afternoon and we've had a roast dinner and quite a bit of wine.

Curtains on boys are deffo fashionable again.

So it the ‘curly, but just on top’ look, which I haven’t really seen since my own late 80s school days!

Port1aCastis · 05/03/2023 17:59

Oh I see, a hairstyle is the topic then! Jeez I thought curtain bangs were going to be a clandestine shag behind the curtains in the lounge. 🥺

Snazzysausage · 05/03/2023 18:52

So a long dangly fringe which flops about then? 🤔

Pileofjeans · 05/03/2023 18:53

Curtain bangs are absolutely not the same as a 'fringe'. If you're going to be pedantic you should at least be saying 'curtain fringe'.

I thought it was the modern term for a pelmet!

I don't know if people in this thread are being serious or deliberately obtuse
Anyway, pic attached of curtain bangs for anyone who is genuinely confused:

It's proof that some people on here have to say something even though they have no clue about the subject matter.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/03/2023 18:59

Vanilla Ice style curtains.

I too thought it was a reference to my living room curtains.

HowdoIgetbacktothe80s · 05/03/2023 19:00

I had to check the date of the post to make sure it’s wasn’t 5th March 1993.

And gets on your nerves...

Can't remember the last time a had "bangs" or a fringe!

(fondly remembering the fringe that used to be on my nanas pelmet, curtains, tie backs and cushions)
