Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day. I have a headache though & the whirring of the fridge is doing my head in a bit 🙄

We have no proper plans for the day today - dd1 was off school yesterday after being sick, and dd2 has hurt her foot falling over, so we're staying in & just mooching I think.

There's MOUNTAINS of washing to be done for some reason, rather than the usual couple of loads, and last nights pots.

I'll spend the day slowly working my way through those, and crafting. I have some peg people to fix for our reception teacher at work, and want to continue with my blanket.

I think dd1 was going to carry on with her GCSE Drama portfolio. & dd2 did her homework last night so she has nothing to do.

What about all of you? 🙂

@Mxflamingnoravera I hope it goes as well as can be. It's the kindest thing you can do Flowers

DD has just gone off to her dads for the weekend. DH is about to go to the gym so I am spoiling myself with a morning in bed with my book, a large Lindt bunny and a cup of tea! When DH gets back we have the rest of the weekend to fill the enormous skip that we hired now most of our house renovations are nearly finished.
I'm hoping he'll be extra nice and make me some GF scones and sausage rolls if we have time too!

AllTangledUpInThisTango · 04/03/2023 09:49

Good morning @lucysmam and all. Namechange, but I’m usually on these threads.

In bed with a coffee just now. DH made it as I had insomnia/nightmares last night. It always feels like a treat when I get coffee/tea made for me (I don’t routinely go to coffee shops or have tea out). It’s in my current favourite mug so that’s an extra little bonus!

No real plans today. I need to list some things for sale on eBay. Will also have a little look for some murano glass fish as I’m starting a small collection to create an ‘underwater’ display - found one in the charity shop the other day which started off my new interest.

I need to remember to go back to said charity shop today as I bought a mirror too which I was supposed to pick up yesterday!

Also need to do a tidy up in the living room as I’ve left boxes and all sorts in a big pile waiting to be sorted through for quite a few weeks now.

We’re going to make a trifle today as we have some Italian sponge fingers to use up (since we were badly ill over Christmas and DH didn’t get to have his trifle). We’ve decided to do orange jelly with tinned mandarin segments, and a blood orange and kumquat compote. Custard and cream too, of course.

I don’t know what I’m going to make for dinner yet. Possibly Thai salmon fishcakes and a Thai prawn curry.

Last night we watched Aliens so tonight we’ll probably watch something a bit more sedate/thoughtful. Perhaps an Éric Rohmer film as we’ve recently bought his collections. However we’re rationing them so as not to get through them too quickly so we may watch something else instead. We’ve started working our way through all the Roger Moore Bond films too, so we may continue with that instead.

Ah I’m sorry @Mxflamingnoravera Flowers wishing you all strength and peace today.

Sending lots of love @Mxflamingnoravera Flowers a tough decision but it sounds like the right one.

DH, DS2 and I will shortly be heading to football training - it's DH's company so I help out on a Saturday morning. We were at a friend's birthday party last night so DS1 is still in bed.

Need to pop to Tesco after training to pick up a few bits.

No real plans for this afternoon, we are all getting over colds so a chilled out afternoon, might take the dog for a walk to the forest. I need to sort out some cupboards and give them a clean and need to find homes for some of the clutter which seems to be building up. The bathrooms need a clean as well but that might have to wait until tomorrow.

Early nights all round tonight I think!

Mxflamingnoravera · 04/03/2023 09:57

Thanks for the kind words and wishes everybody, it really is much appreciated.

Lola001 · 04/03/2023 10:00

I am poorly today so in a YouTube dark hole on the sofa snuggling the dog, DH has taken the baby out for the day.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 04/03/2023 10:09

Good morning Lucysmam Mxflamingnoravera my sympathy. I've had to do it three times with beloved dogs and it's heartbreaking but a kindness.
I've been to Aldi and stocked up on dgs1's favourite foods. He's coming shortly for a sleepover and he's such a delight that it makes my heart sing. So noodles for lunch and sausage and chips for dinner for him with a chocolate iced doughnut as a pit stop. I'm about to get out all his toys and then I'll tidy up the kitchen. Enjoy your day

Simonjt · 04/03/2023 10:24

Good morning everyone, unfortunately it is head lice central here, so I have spent the morning conditioning and combing everyones hair to get them out. Trying to get a seven year old to do mine wasn’t a huge success, so I’m going to try do it myself later with a few mirrors set up. My son was meant to be at rugby today so we have had to cancel that. We are however off to see Tigers later, then we’re off to Yorkshire for rugby league to see a friend who plays for Batley.

We we’re going to a jinja warrior type place with his kids tonight, but we’re doing a farm park instead now so we’re not family zero in a yorkshire head lice breakout.

I'm so sorry @Mxflamingnoravera , it's the last act of love you can give them

familyissues12345 · 04/03/2023 10:28

We're going shopping. I don't usually get excited by that, but I had an op last week and it's nice to have a bit of normality back. Hoping to get something nice for lunch too!

DS is back for the weekend from Uni, along with his washing too.. Confused

Rebelmcstreettuff · 04/03/2023 10:51

DS1 back from uni with his washing here too!
He came back from the pub last night and exploded a can of Pepsi all over his room,up the walls etc at 12pm last night so will have to try and clean it up properly when he gets out of his pit 🙄
Laundry and cleaning done,DS2 had a massive nose bleed in the toilet last night,he did try to clean it up bless him but there were blood smears everywhere.
DH and I will bath the dog then go shopping for a new comfy bed for him, cafe stop for coffee and cake I think.
Chicken pasta for dinner and watch a film later.
I have a project I have to start for work tomorrow but keep putting it off.
Sympathies @Mxflamingnoravera

Anjo2011 · 04/03/2023 10:59

Shopping delivery came at 9am, have had my first brew, put school uniform in the wash. DD2 at football practice, DD1 in the shower. Will have a quick Hoover downstairs in a minute , then thats all the housework that needs doing today. Weather is dreadful so I think I will have to use the tumble dryer today more than I would like. Will pop into town later and we have pizza for tea so nice and easy. @Mxflamingnoravera , a sad day for you , I hope it goes as well as it can. Sending good wishes.

wineandsunshine · 04/03/2023 11:01

Good morning! I've been up about an hour and had my first cuppa along with a selection of drugs (for tonsillitis - second time in three weeks 😞😞).

I seem to have also lost my voice so will need to rest that over the weekend so I can teach on Monday morning!

DH is out with the boys on a dog walk so a lazy day resting is on the cards.

Season0fTheWitch · 04/03/2023 11:02

So sorry to read that, @Mxflamingnoravera sending love. Flowers

We're having a slow day today, kids are tired from a busy day yesterday, me and DH have barely seen each other this week due to various unplanned events including 2 A&E trips and an incident at school. We're going to bundle the kids up, make some nice sandwiches to take with us and go for a drive and get a coffee somewhere. Then tonight DH and I having an at home date night.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Amybelle88 · 04/03/2023 11:03

Good morning! Washed dressed and make up done with a coffee!

Starting the day watching the chamber of secrets with my son at his request then off to get some bits for tea and the Sunday roast. Love weekends - we have some lovely chill downtime with the kids - family game night tonight.

Hope you're all having a good day ❤️

DoorstoManual · 04/03/2023 11:06

@Mxflamingnoravera that is a incoming decision for our beloved border collie, huge sympathy.

Got up and let the dog out, came back to bed and DH delivered a cup of coffee. Ironing has been collected, dog has been collected, cleaner didn’t come yesterday so the house will need a hoover throughout.

Rugby club for the afternoon, not sure what is for dinner. DS playing at the club, so I will have to prise myself from the relative comfort of the balcony to stand in a wind tunnel and show willing for while. Thought my freezing my arse off days were over, it would appear not. Grin

Wine and catch up with Saturday Morning kitchen early evening, some crap TV and then bed.

We are retired and every day feels like Saturday and yet Saturday and Sunday still feel special, go figure. Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 04/03/2023 11:07

Weve just got back from walking the dog in the woods so we are having hot chocolate to warm up. Ive got about 5 loads of washing to do. DD's are going to do some paint your own fairies/princess sets that they got for their birthdays and DS had a sleepover at my mums last night so she will bring him home at some point. Im cooking a roast later

houseargh · 04/03/2023 11:08

On my way back from a work trip. Currently in Amsterdam airport, eating noodles while I wait for my last flight. Can't wait to see 2yo DD. Had about an hour of sleep last night but I doubt a nap is on the cards. We had talked about going for a pint and a sneaky kebab after bedtime (MIL is staying and can babysit) - would be our first visit to our local since we moved in August!!! Hoping I can stay awake that long.

xsamix86 · 04/03/2023 11:19

Also have tonsillitis that I'm trying to brave out without having to go to the GP so a day on the sofa watching terrible TV while DH takes the kids for an eye test. Need to put a load of washing in as I'm back at work tomorrow and my uniform somehow missed the dark wash this week. Feel guilty that I don't have the capacity to do anything fun with the kids this weekend

MintJulia · 04/03/2023 11:20

So far, got ds up, fed and to swim class, done weekly food shop, collected ds.

Back home, made breakfast2, stowed all the food away, the first wash is on the line, 2nd one mid-cycle, stacked the dishwasher.

Now my day is mine. I'll go for a run, make some soup, chase ds about his homework, and go into town to buy him a new school rucksack.

And then bumble in the garden - maybe clean the greenhouse - pot up more veg seeds.

I actually have some money left from last month, so I might browse for some spring clothes, in front of the fire later. Chat to family. It's a low pressure weekend. 😊

Kim82 · 04/03/2023 12:09

Hi everyone, I know it’s technically not morning any more but I still want to join in!

I was up and out nice and early this morning as dd8 is in the school cross country team and they had an interschool competition today. She didn’t place but came 16th out of 34 so did well considering she’s a titch and only started doing cross country 3 weeks ago.

We’re home now and both freezing so sitting under a blanket with a tea for me and a hot chocolate for her.

Dh has a rare day off today so he’s cleaned the house while I’ve been out and is now doing something in the garden.

We’ve no plans for this afternoon, the Tesco shop is coming later and I need to do some washing but that’s it. I’m considering doing a roast today instead of tomorrow for tea but it depends on whether I can be bothered.

Then tonight dh is going out, dd18 is at work and me and dd15 will get some snacks and watch a film once the youngest is in bed.

I would hope that the people here with university-aged sons who are bringing laundry home with them aren't doing laundry for their sons! And to the PP with the on who exploded the Pepsi, why on earth are you cleaning that up for him? He's old enough for the pub - he's old enough to clean his own mess.

Is this really what people do on Saturdays? Piles of laundry, cleaning and cooking? Do your older children or partners do any of this? These threads are sometimes a little bit depressing.

To @Mxflamingnoravera - I am so sorry to read this, you are making the right decision (and a very difficult one), your little cat is so lucky to have such caring owners like you.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 04/03/2023 13:10

Good afternoon! Have already taken DS to swimming and had lunch. Now need to hang up washing before dropping DH and MIL at football. Then DS and I are meeting up with a friend for a stroll down the High Street (including going into the shop her new boyfriend works in so I can take a look at him).

Later we will meet back up with DH and MIL at the pub for a lovely Thai meal.

Lots of people work fulltime, so time for laundry etc in the week is limited. We work part time, so I have the luxury of being able to do the bulk of ours during the week. Normal life isn’t depressing, a bit boring yes, but no, washing clothes and keeping your home clean is far from depressing.
