Wtf is going on with my face?!

My face looks like this most days and I don’t know why!

I’m late 20s, healthy, don’t drink, don’t work outside or spend more time outdoors than the average person, no allergies, no skin conditions that I know of, not on any new medications.

My face is red, roasting hot and sometimes feels really tight and sore. It’s not all the time but I’ll be at work (not a physical job), or even just sitting on the sofa in the evening and suddenly my face looks and feels like I’ve just run 10km ☹️ when it happens it’s usually just my face, sometimes my ears. The rest of my body is fine (apart from ice-cold fingers and toes all the time!)

Anyone have any answers? Thank you 🥰

I have rosacea, maybe worth a Google.

I did consider rosacea but everyone I’ve known within rosacea has had more texture to the redness. My skin feels smooth, just red and boiling hot to touch 😩

Not sure what it can be, however I'm having very red , hot face too time from time, no reason really.

Try Sudocream overnight, it always helps to me.

Aww please don't worry.
How long has this been happening for? Any other symptoms? Any recent medical interventions? Stress? Headaches?
Sometimes thinking about it, can bring it on - psychological influencing physical (Psychosomatic).

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 03/03/2023 19:47

I've got Rosacea, and mine is the same. Certain things make it worse. In my case -
Any perfumed products. I use SIMPLE products on my face, Ecover for laundry.
Alcohol
Central heating. I don't have the house too warm.
Cold/windy weather
Spicy foods - curries, chilli, anything with Paprika, chillies, garlic
Citrus fruits - oranges, lemons, limes

I don't avoid any of these FOODS. Life's for living. I use a green colour correcting cream under my foundation.

Slightlydustcovered · 03/03/2023 19:48

My skin is smooth. I get flushes of heat and redness. They really burn! It's quite localised across my nose and cheeks. I manage it with azelaic acid. Good luck with finding the cause.

Dancingqueenwannabe · 03/03/2023 19:50

My rosacea is like that and started in my 20s. It don't get bumps just hot stinging cheeks. I would advise you go to a dermatologist for advice. Don't listen or be sucked into the treatments they offer - you are young and can deal with this yourself, but take on board the advice they give you about moisturisers, diet, lifestyle etc. Mine flares up when most during winter, going from hot to cold and when I have eaten something spicy. I was advised to use pure products, nothing scented or with too many colourings. Look up groups on Facebook, I've found loads of advice on there too. Feel free to message if you need support.

I’m 66, my face has done exactly the same over the last 2/3 weeks. I’m losing a bit of weight (deliberately) and have cut out butter, cheese, cream and red meat, but I’ve also developed a love of oranges and red peppers, having always disliked them. It wouldn’t have occurred to me that three oranges a day could redden my face, but that would explain it!

My first thought with the cold fingers and toes was Raynaud's.

davegrohll · 03/03/2023 20:03

Could be rosacea, I have this and get a hot flushed face

Both Raynaud's and rosacea are autoimmune conditions. I have both. This winter has been a particular challenge with having the heating on less.

dolly12345 · 03/03/2023 20:37

Sounds like rosacea - often starts in your 20s. When I was in my 20s my skin flushed and felt hot very easily; I felt like I was always red. I'm almost 40 and I've had two pregnancies and my rosacea is worse now - I have lots of broken capillaries and more texture changes.

I recently signed up for Skin and Me and it's worked really well for me so far - they do prescription skincare online.

Ah, I do have symptoms of Raynaud’s in my fingers and toes, wasn’t sure if the face was related though. My Dad has Raynaud’s so not sure if it’s genetic 🤷🏼‍♀️

La Roche Posay do a great range for rosacea. Don't forget sunscreen every day.

Tree543 · 04/03/2023 13:23

Roseca? I used a get a red burning sunburnt feeling face like that. Was worse in winter with the central heating on. I bought some Soolantra and it's much improved.
Looks a bit like butterfly rash as well.

PassMeTheBlanket · 04/03/2023 13:33

My face has been doing exactly as you describe recently! Went to put makeup on yesterday and genuinely looked like I'd only put blusher on one side of my face🙄felt like I'd been slapped!

I'm early thirties. Very pale, ginger skin. I'm not vain by any stretch but it can be quite distressing sometimes. A couple of relatives have Rosacea, so might be something I'll also look into. You're definitely not on your own, though.

BeansOnToast32 · 04/03/2023 13:52

Yep rosacea, I was diagnosed at 26. It's horrible.

Really baby your skin for now, I use Cerave hydrating cleanser, Eucerin Replenishing face cream and sometimes layer Cerave moisturiser over the top. My skin is on the dryer side and if I'm not well moisturised I'm much more susceptible to flushing.

I also think I have raynauds, I don't get the white fingers but my fingers and toes are always freezing and if they aren't freezing they flush and burn/tingle just like my rosacea. 😩

Treacletart9 · 04/03/2023 13:57

I would try the Ordinary Azaelic Acid twice a day to see if it helps. I have a touch what I think is rosacea from menopause and this keeps it firmly under control. CeraVe lovely for sensitive skin too.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/03/2023 13:59

I think it’s probably rosacea, but I’d go see a dermatologist privately.

GPs aren’t great with dermatology.

LakeFlyPie · 04/03/2023 14:00

My rosacea started like that

Mischance · 04/03/2023 14:01

Start by putting nothing on your face - just wash with clear water - no creams, cleansers, no makeup, just nothing. Wait two weeks and then introduce one of the things that you are using now.

JewelLane · 04/03/2023 14:15

I found, after much trial and error with creams over year's that an appointment with my GP ( who had a dermatology background) resolved it.

Prescribed pills to take and the rosacea disappeared within three weeks, never to return.

Bitter sweet really - frustrated that I had struggled for so long but delighted it resolved so quickly - and permanently.

JackiePlace · 04/03/2023 14:23

Are any of you that have rosacea here also allergic or intolerant to garlic?
