Your best accidental ninja moment

I was just in the shower, opaque curtain closed. Finished my bottle of face wash so tossed it backwards over the shower rail. Finished shower, got out and saw I had ninja'd the tube straight into the bin. Made me feel very clever 😂 Small wins and all that.

Also many years ago someone launched a set of keys across the restaurant at me where I was working. I wasn't looking and put a hand up to brush my hair back and caught the keys on my ring finger like it was some socially distanced proposal.

Have you had a ninja moment you'd care to share this chilly Friday?

Not very impressive but the other day a teaspoon fell off the worktop. I had my back turned to it, was a foot or two away and somehow managed to catch it between my fingers, without even turning round. I was rather pleased with myself especially as I'm dyspraxic.

FlyingFlamingo · 03/03/2023 17:14

Dd2 once slipped next to me at the top of the stairs, she must have been 1 or 2? I caught her by her t shirt at the back of her neck and managed to yank her backwards before she fell straight down the stairs. I never catch anything usually!

ImprobablePuffin · 03/03/2023 17:25

@ClaraThePigeon no I think that feat should come with bragging rights. Colour me impressed

My ex, years ago told me of a ninja moment during an AA meeting. It was equally horrific and funny but not sure it's appropriate to share it here 😕🤫

BearSoFair · 03/03/2023 17:44

Dropped a set of tongs at work, somehow nudged them back upwards with my knee and caught them. I was so proud I had to ask if anyone had seen that, very happy when my manager said yes, nice moves! 😂

NormaJoan · 03/03/2023 17:49

I once got a hole in one at a 12 hole adventure golf course . The hole was situated on the other side of a grassy mound, so I couldn’t see it. I don’t play golf and I quit the game then on a high .

StinkerTroll · 03/03/2023 17:50

I lost my footing at the top of a flight of stairs at school, managed to slide down the stairs on my knees, stand up smoothly at the bottom and carry on walking, quite possibly my coolest ninja moment ever!

swapcicles · 03/03/2023 17:52

Caught dd by the back of her coat as she somehow fell out the trolley and was heading face first towards the floor, more of a matrix moment really!
Guy at the bakery counter asked me if my name was Peter Schmeichel 😂

Reluctantadult · 03/03/2023 17:53

Dcat once brought a live mouse in, dh managed to ninja catch it mid air in a colander!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 03/03/2023 17:55

I was stood next to the stairs, by the bannisters when then 3 year old DS slipped and went tumbling down the stairs, my arm shot out between the bannisters and somehow managed to grab hold of the collar of ds's tshirt and save him from what I'm convinced would have been death (probably not, but ya know... mum guilt!).

What a carrot to dangle, that's not fair at all! 😂

I think that's the universal response isn't it? Quick look around to see if anyone saw how freaking awesome you are lol

Was following dd1 aged two down the stairs, dh waiting at the bottom, when she slipped and fell. As she was diving head first towards the solid metal radiator at the bottom of the stairs dh sort of flung his arms out and managed to catch her mid air. Properly scared us but she was fine.

Great thread! Reading these with awe.

When I was about 15 I was at a roller hockey match in LA on our holiday. After the warm up the team flicked loads of hockey pucks into the crowd. My two brothers told me to stay with the bags etc and went down nearer to the front to try and get one. A rogue puck got flicked too hard and came shooting up to me at the back and I stuck my hand straight up and caught it.

The hockey players and some of the crowd applauded me, my brothers were gobsmacked and I was desperately pretending my hand didn’t hurt! 😂

Sandysandwich · 03/03/2023 18:23

Stood next to a high rope climbing frame watching my son and a toddler on the other side fell face first out of the gap where the firemans pole was, I caught her when her head was about a foot from the ground.
Scared the shit out of me but she didn't even cry.

And my ninja reflexes did also allow me to react like lightening to my phone slipping out of my hand. Instead of it falling two feet onto carpet, I smacked it mid air and launched it out of the balcony doors into the carpark three floors down.

I agree!

SmartHome · 03/03/2023 18:30

I have ninja reflexes like this to things falling or being dropped etc. At work the other day someone tripped on a bit of carpet sticking out and flung a load of cardboard folders out towards the desk where I was sitting on a zoom call. I stuck my arm out without looking and diverted the papers and folder down my arm onto the dek in front of me. Everyone on the zoom applauded.

Apparently it's the last autonomic reflex to go and you're either born with that ability or not and you can't train yourself to be faster as it bypasses the brain, straight in and out of the spinal cord. So I'm looking forward to freaking people out in the nursing home in my nineties when people drop things and I catch them without looking.

DidyouNO · 03/03/2023 18:33

My (now ex) DH was once chatting to me in bed. We're laying down, facing each other. It's summertime and there's an annoying fly in the room. Without breaking eye contact with me his whips his hand up AND CATCHES THE FLY IN HIS HAND!!!!
Still one of the most impressing things I've witnessed!!

SLID DOWN STAIRS ON YOUR KNEES? They must have been in bits after??

My main takeaway after starting this thread is that stairs are absolute death traps

This would be an awesome one to have on video.
As would the midair colander mouse.

I never laugh much at threads, or spit out my coffee, or snort and wake sleeping animals/babies but this one really tickled me 😂

I fell off my horse when I was about 17 - I managed to keep the fag I was smoking alight - and also put my hand in my pocket to protect the rest of the pack. Unfortunately broke my elbow though 😀
