Is it any good? I know one person who had it, who's had a lot of issues. EE have put my price up , so looking for a better deal. Not fussed about TV or anything.

Yes. Not the cheapest but very very reliable. South West London.

CaptainHammer · 03/03/2023 16:34

Yes. It’s the best in my area. If you’re happy with EE though have you tried haggling before leaving? Whenever virgin increase the price we phone and they put us on a better deal.

x2boys · 03/03/2023 16:35

Maybe it's more reliable in different parts of the country ,but I'm in northwest and we have had issues with the internet going off for hours even days at a time ,not regularly but enough to be annoying.

MarieG10 · 03/03/2023 16:46

It is very fast and reliable...but when it goes wrong the service is awful

tobee · 03/03/2023 16:47

We're thinking of going to Virgin from bt as bt prices are huge and going up. But the main reason is their top speeds are rubbish compared to Virgin.

However, everyone I know who speaks about broadband hates their supplier and the prices.

Floomobal · 03/03/2023 16:48

Our Virgin Broadband is great. We had a bit of trouble with reliability as the router they give you is a bit crap. Since buying our own router, I couldn’t fault the internet

yousilvertongueddevilyou · 03/03/2023 16:52

Yes, £24/month and it's fine but no gaming. I just need reliable internet to browse the web and work.

I threaten to leave every year and get a reduced price.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2023 16:53

I will give EE a ring and see if they will give me a better deal. But I will also get double data on my mobile as well. My Aquino who has had issues is in central London. Which puts me off a bit. They claim that it's 3x faster than EE will be.

i have it, not had any major issues in all the years ive been with them

Redglitter · 03/03/2023 16:58

I wouldn't touch Virgin. There's constantly posts on FB about it being down. It seems really unreliable, certainly where I am, but I wouldn't go near it as a result

rwalker · 03/03/2023 17:40

People get ridiculously hung up about speed for surfing and streaming over 60meg fine u can get away with lower than that
I work for the providers time after time I go to houses there all pleased that they’ve got speed 200 mg plus then use a Wi-Fi connection to a shitty 20 year old laptop

the main thing is is it copper or fibre

Fibre newer

HamishHero · 03/03/2023 17:44

Ours is dropping out a lot currently but has generally been great.

loudbatperson · 03/03/2023 17:49

Very reliable and very fast for us (West London as performance will vary by location). We have a very hefty internet package and price is good when comparing for speed and reliability.

I am in the northwest too , and like you say it can drop out for hours at a time sometimes , it's fiber and in the past Virgin have said it may lag during peak times but I work odd shifts and it happens during the small hrs too.

That said I was with EE before and that was much worse.

Papershade5 · 03/03/2023 17:58

I wouldn't touch them unless you want a lifetime contract which keeps going up, they make it VERY difficult to leave, they will pass you around or hang up on you. We are now with Vodafone, no issues and a lot cheaper.

earsup · 03/03/2023 18:03

East london here...reliable but price goes up and up and they wont reduce it...we can switch to community fibre soon as half price. i cant deal with virgin call centre as rude and stupid. even told us they cannot speak to us anymore as have exceed the account access limit.

Sn1859 · 03/03/2023 18:05

I have. I’m new to it but it’s been brilliant so far. I signed up during Black Friday so I’m on a brilliant deal but can’t fault them at the moment. Even when the reception failed (I have fibre but it still plays up) they notified and fixed it immediately.

Growlybear83 · 03/03/2023 18:06

I'm in south London and the service is very unreliable. I find their customer service is appalling - I have never ever come across an organisation who treats their customers worse than Virgin

RainBow725 · 03/03/2023 18:11

I've been with them for years and we are heavy users in the house - wfh, gaming & streaming so get good use of the bandwidth and speed. But as a PP said, their hub is crap for wifi so worth buying your own and then it's flawless.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 03/03/2023 18:49

Reliability and service depends on the infrastructure in your area. In Edinburgh we've had an extensive, well maintained cable network since the late 80's. It's been managed and upgraded down the years by the various entities that have owned it, and it's been Virgin since the early 2000's IIRC

Service here is more or less impeccable. You get over and above the bandwidth you pay for, and outages are more or less a 'once in a blue moon' phenomenon, like once per calendar year or so. My biggest gripe with them is their CS can be awkward to deal with, and their webmail doesn't filter out nearly enough obvious spam, but apart from that they are rock-solid reliable and I have no issues.

The problem is, if you ask for opinions on Virgin, you are going to get a gamut of varying answers, because they serve the entire UK and in some parts of it the infrastructure just isn't there, so people living there will contend their service is garbage and advise you to avoid them like the plague, whereas where I am the service is faultless and I couldn't recommend any of the alternatives.

Be very specific about what you choose to listen to. If you are in London (for arguments sake), I wouldn't pay any attention to what someone in Newcastle says about them, because you are not buying the same product as someone at the other end of England.

TheCatterall · 03/03/2023 19:38

Got it in December at the behest of my youngest (does game streaming) after 15 years of Sky.

signals fine. Trying to get hold of anyone. Got any issues? Forget it. Made it as hard as possible to get anything sorted and I’m fed up of Indian call centres. I’m waiting for them to send out the 6th coaxial cable since 30th December. None have managed to arrive. I doubt any have been sent.

I wish I’d never moved to them.

BramleyAppleHotCrossBun · 03/03/2023 19:41

Yes: wouldn't have any other, the alternatives are inferior. We have mega broadband (500gb) for £32 a month.

roses2 · 03/03/2023 19:51

We had Virgin during covid and based in NW London. It was horrific for the 18 months we were with them and I left as soon as my contract was up. Weekly outages, slower upload than other providers made Teams work calls impossible.

We moved to Now (Sky) 2 years ago. Only 1 outage I can recall.

HamstersAreMyLife · 03/03/2023 19:53

South Yorkshire here and got it on recommendation from a friend who games but its been so unreliable. Now they've put the price up again so we're leaving.

Redebs · 03/03/2023 19:55

I was with them for years and they were fine. Last year their prices went up to crazy level for existing customers. I got in contact and ended up with horrible experience, getting lied to, overcharged and basically conned.
I only want broadband and my current provider does it for a third of what Virgin were demanding.
