Amazon refunded without the return

BastardtheCat · 02/03/2023 12:49

I bought my DM a pair of lined Crocs for her birthday (bought 2 as was unsure of fit). Just processed the return for the unsuitable pair and I've been issued an instant refund with a message that I don't need to return the item?! Nearly £40 worth?

How is this feasible?!

They probs agree its cheaper to do this than pay for someone to process the returns that come back.

purplecorkheart · 02/03/2023 12:51

I had this a couple of times with Amazon. I don't think that Amazon process all returns and instead they are packaged up in big boxes and sold to companies or auction off.

BastardtheCat · 02/03/2023 12:52

Crazy!

They've refunded me immediately without asking for the item to be returned. In fact, they've made it clear that I don't need to return them.

It happens from time to time. Sometimes it is cheaper for the company not to get the item back, especially if they can’t resell. We do a lot of shopping on Amazon, I’ve been surprised at the things they wanted back and the things they told us to keep. We just donate to charity as appropriate.

han01uk · 02/03/2023 12:56

Yes happened with a couple of items here too. Sell them on and be quids in!

crumpetsryummy · 02/03/2023 13:00

Happened to me a couple of times. Sure there was a programme on tv about this and they said sometimes it costs the company more money to prepare them to resell so as a gesture of good will they refund and buyer can keep the goods.

backinthebox · 02/03/2023 13:04

I’ve got the opposite problem - I returned an item using their return service, but they say I didn’t post it and have refused the refund. Only about £20, but it’s a bit annoying.

whatisheupto · 02/03/2023 13:05

It's killing the sellers though. I stopped selling on there for this precise reason. The only way you can make money on Amazon is if you are selling a product at a HUGE mark up to cover the incredible costs Amazon imposes on sellers. Like this scenario. So just know that whatever you buy at say £30, probably costs £3 to produce.

AliceTheeCamel · 02/03/2023 13:06

I've had this a few times, generally for stuff costing under about £10 though or for faulty items.

whatisheupto · 02/03/2023 13:06

Also Amazon refund the buyer before you as a seller have had a chance to ask for the item to be returned. Basically Amazon screw the sellers to keep the buyers happy.

Yes I find that too and often it is expensive items that they want you to keep and then tell you to return something relatively cheap.

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/03/2023 13:29

Were they faulty?

In my experience Amazon always refund immediately, either the refund is processed the minute you drop the parcel off at the post office/amazon locker and they've logged it. They never seem to wait to check it or get it back.

The only few times they've wanted something back is when it's minimally damaged on arrival and I suppose is worthwhile them getting back to sell on as used etc - higher value items with no hygiene compromised.

AnchorWHAT · 02/03/2023 13:29

Same thing happened to me with a teeshirt that was wrong size, still got it and hope it fits soon as i am on a weight loss kick. No idea why but also had a whole item refunded when i messaged to say a lead was missing even though they said they would refund £5 and to just buy a cable myself, actually as i recall not only did they refund whole thing but extra £3.61 on top for some odd reason.

Mylittlesandwich · 02/03/2023 13:36

I had this with a fairly expensive order. Their carrier left it out in the rain and all the packaging was destroyed. Some of the items were soaked through. They told me to keep the items and refunded it.

GoKartMozart · 02/03/2023 13:53

No rhyme or reason to it.
Sometimes I've been refunded for expensive items without the return, but once they insisted on having back an £8 leaky hosepipe that was still dripping and sent back in a bin bag.

BertieBotts · 02/03/2023 13:54

I've had this too. Just donate the unneeded ones to a charity shop if you can't use them.

Rockbird · 02/03/2023 14:12

Just been refunded for some cables that didn't arrive when they should have done. They notified me of the refund yesterday morning and the package arrived yesterday afternoon.

Blueberrycreampie · 02/03/2023 14:45

A year or so ago I ordered a range of medicines and toiletries as I had flu like symptoms, which were delivered promptly. I then got a message saying they were refunding my money due to non delivery. I didn't ask for a refund?

Porpl · 02/03/2023 15:01

I've had this a couple of times lately not just with amazon where they have told me to keep the order , one was a huge order from pets at home that they'd refunded and sent a new order out for as they said it was lost but it was just late and turned up so I ended up with double, they told me to keep it and I donated it to my local animal shelter.

Silversalt · 02/03/2023 15:14

I've had this frequently with Amazon. They do the refund straight away. I presume if the return doesn't happen they would take the money back.
If goods are not supplied by Amazon I have several times been told not to bother returning the item. makes you wonder what the profit margin is.

To be fair I have had outstanding custome r service many times from Amazon.

Beezknees · 02/03/2023 15:20

Happens a lot. I think they make enough money not to be too bothered.

soboredoflooking · 02/03/2023 15:23

Ur luck is in! Never happened to me with Amazon and I've returned quite a few things. Some smaller value items too like a faulty digital thermometer 🤷🏻‍♀️

Igenix4 · 02/03/2023 15:27

Amazon do this regularly, I assume it's cheaper and easier, depending on the item/size

No, not faulty. I added a message in the box saying that they'd not even been opened nor tried on because the first pair fit perfectly.

I'd sooner send them directly back to the seller to be honest. Hate that the seller could be getting screwed over.
