Is there a weird nausea/headache bug going round?

Teen DS (nearly 16) has been ill off and on for nearly a fortnight. His main symptom initially was sudden severe nausea, although he hasn't actually been sick. He's also had intermittent headaches and fluey symptoms, no energy, and is a bit dizzy and bunged up today. He's missed several days of school and spent most of half term (last week) sleeping. The GP is sending him for blood tests and we're wondering about migraine, as there's a strong family history, but given the fluey symptoms, I'm really hoping it's just a virus that will pass. Lateral flow tests have been negative. GP gave him Buccastem for the nausea yesterday and it helped a bit, but made his headache worse.

I clicked this thread because this is day 3 of me feeling nauseous with a mild but niggling headache. Also feeling dizzy and tired. A fortnight seems too long for a virus though, I hope he feels better soon

Rowgtfc72 · 01/03/2023 11:30

4th day of it for me.

spidereggs · 01/03/2023 11:32

This was covid for me, first time. No cough, but exactly as you describe. Headache and nauseous

I've just done another Covid test on him but it's still negative. Sorry others are suffering as well. It's horrible, whatever it is.

I had this, also DP and DS. No vomiting but almost like a stomach bug and then a cold. Hate to say this but it's been a few weeks and the cold symptoms are still with me, however I am pregnant and have hypothyroidism so things do tend to drag on for me. I also thought it was covid but tests negative.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 01/03/2023 13:27

I’ve been having the same symptoms for almost two weeks! Severe dizziness to the point of collapse, headache and nausea. Blood test and blood pressure normal so I think I have the bug as well.

MaggieFS · 01/03/2023 13:41

YES! It's fucking horrible.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 01/03/2023 13:46

Hoping it passes soon, hate it. Just want to be able to get back to exercising without feeling like I’m about to pass out (even just walking can be bad) and not feel like I need to lie down after everything!

Idontunderstandthesenumbers · 01/03/2023 13:48

I clicked this because I've got a child with the same, so I'd say yes

pleasestoprainingplease · 01/03/2023 13:50

Oh I've just had this. I could barely function. Migraine headaches, I was sick. Couldn't wait to sleep. Now I have a cough. Negative test though but yeah really not nice. I thought it was the pressure in the atmosphere making me feel rough as it's been dark great and gloomy but then bright at times too. Weird. I'm feeling much better this week. I hope it doesn't last long in your house 🤞

spiderlight · 01/03/2023 13:53

Does sound as if this is an actual bug going round, then. I really hope you all feel better soon!

Yes!!! It's now 8 days in and I'm feeling much better. Have been lft every day as was convinced it was covid

Season0fTheWitch · 01/03/2023 14:22

I've had the same thing, DM thinks it's the weather changing and weird air pressure. I think I'm run down, others think it's covid.

lobeliasb · 01/03/2023 14:47

I get migraines and they are always much worse when the barometric pressure is high, which it has been for the past few weeks. I've had a headache every day for at least two weeks now.

stbrandonsboat · 01/03/2023 15:00

I had this then it seemed to turn into a cold and sore throat.

The bug was causing tiredness, nausea, dizziness and a bit of a temperature.

CTR16783 · 01/03/2023 15:13

Day 10 for me and the husband, my dad also has it. They both have coughs, I've got headaches every morning, all 3 of us can't taste or smell anything, I've been through 2 big boxes of tissues in a week! Thankfully have a bit more energy now but god its grim. All covid tests are negative but its x10 worse than when I actually had a positive covide test

Livelongandprosper · 01/03/2023 17:45

Yes! Flu-like symptoms and horrible nausea. I was in bed for 10 days and was very tired for another 4 days afterwards. I tested multiple times and it definitely wasn't covid. Horrible!

SpringCalling · 01/03/2023 17:49

Strep A? Friend with bad headaches just tested positive for it.

spiderlight · 01/03/2023 18:06

I hadn't thought of Strep A. He hasn't had a temperature or a rash, though, and the GP looked in his throat on Monday and said there was no sign of tonsillitis.

Another one here, day 3. I keep thinking it's covid and testing negative. Chills, nausea, headaches, body aches and sore throat. Hope we all feel better soon!

Xrays · 01/03/2023 18:22

Yep. I never, ever get headaches and I have the worst headache ever the last couple of days! Literally actually painful if I bend over or touch it. And sinus pain. So pretty confident it’s a bug. Horrible!

thecrispfiend · 01/03/2023 19:03

Yes my son was sent home from school yesterday due to running a temperature and falling asleep at his desk. His symptoms are nausea he's barely eaten today but thankfully hasn't vomited either and is complaining of headaches I think it's a bug/virus

BorgQueen · 01/03/2023 19:14

There are 6 separate winter viruses circulating this year, I’ve just had one on top of another since Xmas.
The one OP described hit me a month ago with migraine/vomiting and dizziness being the 1st symptom, I was in bed for 2 days with it.

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 01/03/2023 21:11

2 weeks in here... headaches, nausea, tightness in my chest, a really irritating cough and feeling so tired I could fall asleep anytime. It's crap.
