How do you dispose of old frying/saucepans?

I’ve got a few old pans that have seen better days. Charity shops don’t want them. Recycling won’t collect them.

Do I have to just put them in the general waste bin?

Some supermarkets have a drop off bin for nonstick ones especially.

PoorPensionerToBe · 27/02/2023 19:00

I’ve taken these and old oven trays to the metal recycling at the tip. Otherwise I guess it would need to go in the normal bin

UnalliterativeGeorge · 27/02/2023 19:00

I just gave some to our primary school as they have a mud kitchen in reception

AtleastitsnotMonday · 27/02/2023 19:00

If you have a local nursery, forest school or play group they may like them for a mud kitchen

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/02/2023 19:01

I’m after some for a mud kitchen so you can send them to me!

Onemorebulb · 27/02/2023 19:01

Oooh, mud kitchen is a GREAT idea! Thank you!

Go to the tip and put them in with the metal. No way would I just bin them.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/02/2023 19:21

Here it would be leave them in ex's garden and they'd be collected by the scrap dealers.

justwantobeamum · 27/02/2023 19:38

Anyone know what I can do with old kitchen knives?! I don’t know where to get rid of them!

Our local police station has advertised on FB that they will let you hand in old knives to make sure they dont end up in the wrong hands.

Check if your local police currently have a knife drop point for surrendering any knife including kitchen knives.

OhcantthInkofaname · 27/02/2023 20:03

Recycle!
Turn them into art!

Was wondering this as I have a couple that are very blunt/old - thanks!

megletthesecond · 27/02/2023 20:05

Metal skip at the tip.

I've never seen this. Which supermarkets?

Hedgesfullofbirds · 27/02/2023 20:54

I use my old, redundant ones for melting wax from my bees to make furniture polish, leather dressing and lip salve from. Also for cooking up fishing bait over a camping stove which would, otherwise, stink out the kitchen. Realise that this is slightly niche though, but it does repurpose them.
My brother creates metal sculptures from old cutlery too.

As an aside, have a look at the 'Knife Angel' sculpture, currently in Gloucester, but soon going on tour round the country, created from knifes handed in to police during an amnesty, and a campaign to reduce knife crime

LindorDoubleChoc · 27/02/2023 21:00

I live in London and leave them out near my garden gate. The scrap metal guys collect them. If they hadn't, after a few days, they'd go in our next tip run.

Custardbanana · 27/02/2023 21:05

Put in the garden for a bird bath

JunkinDonuts · 27/02/2023 21:26

I use mine in the garden as planters. You could do that.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/02/2023 21:29

Saucepans go to metal recycling at the tip.

I had some blunt kitchen knives that I took to the tip when I was clearing my Mum’s house. They said to put them in the metal skip too but checked that they went well down and weren’t sat on the top.

@tothelefttotheleft
I saw one if those large basket things at Sainsbury's the other week .. on the far side of the tills near where they have the food bank donations.

Thankyou.
