Teacher world book day costume sos

I've done all my planning for world book day.. hyped the class up and kitted out my own children. And then it happened. It suddenly dawned on me that I haven't planned a flipping costume for me!

I have a white long sleeved long midi dress in my wardrobe (only long because I'm short) anything I can do with that? I desperately need inspiration. My brain has quit and I really don't want to buy anything after forking out £40 for a Luke skywalker costume for DS (yes I know it's not a book but he's excited and those years are numbered in ks2!)

Miss Havisham?

pinkberet · 25/02/2023 23:33

I also have a black knee length dress.. loads of jeans. Typical mum/teacher tunics and I could start a lightly used m and s leggings shop

Easiest one I saw on a teacher was a block coloured dress with an a4 colour label pinned to her… she was purple from The Day The Crayons Quit.

I was Miss Havisham for Halloween, so you're preaching to the choir 😄

Can you get your hands on a witch’s hat and go as Winnie the Witch? Or the witch from Room on the Broom?

pinkberet · 25/02/2023 23:37

@Rainallnight there may be a child's witches hat in the attic from Halloween. I'll check!

Cardboard/brown paper/loo roll tube nose and some leaves..stickman!

Timide · 25/02/2023 23:39

The woman in white? Wilkie Collins

ODFOx · 25/02/2023 23:43

Miss Honey from Matilda?

onionringcheeseypuff · 25/02/2023 23:44

Black spots on dress and black make up nose to be a Dalmatian, 101 Dalmatians?

God any fake fur and a crown to be the snow Queen?

pinkberet · 25/02/2023 23:45

@ODFOx my lovely little darlings would crease at the irony. I'm no trunchbull but, due to staffing instability, they've needed a very tight ship ♥️

White midi dress.
I know you said it's not a book but how happy would your DS be if you were Leia?

Could you get a huge lolly pop from the pound shop (Poundland have them) and wear the white dress and go as the Demon Dentist

or some kind of princess from a fairytale

Mol1628 · 26/02/2023 00:03

Wear your own clothes and go as a muggle.

WGACA · 26/02/2023 00:15

What activities have you planned for your class please? I’m going as Winnie the Witch (again!)

MumofSpud · 26/02/2023 00:25

My school has a theme for WBD - detectives Confused

HesMyLobster · 26/02/2023 00:45

What age do you teach? I always try to go as a character from a book we've recently read in class, so the children are familiar with it:

White dress + glasses + jam jar with battery lights in = Sophie from BFG

Jeans + white shirt/tshirt + waistcoat + cardboard ears on headband = BFG

Black dress + gloves = grand high witch from The Witches

Bright coloured tshirt + matching colour cone "hat" = crayon from the day the crayons quit

Striped top + mask + sack = burglar Bill/ robber from cops and robbers

Jeans

TurnTheLightOffNigel · 26/02/2023 00:55

I'd second Leia, or be a white crayon from the book someone mentioned (because surely there's a white crayon)

Pikafee · 26/02/2023 00:58

Print off a red A and pin it to your chest: the scarlet letter. I did this for Halloween at my school and it was a fun experiment of seeing who got the reference and who didn't

pinkberet · 26/02/2023 10:52

@HesMyLobster great idea. We're doing the journey trilogy so shorts and T-shirt it is!

Perfect!
Could you make a red boat from card to carry as a prop? Or a red balloon?
Or cover the inside of your classroom door with red paper?!

Love those books so much, great choice.

pinkberet · 26/02/2023 11:43

I'll pop and get a red balloon and I'll fashion a crayon belt thingy

White Witch / Snow Queen from Narnia (The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe)

A la Tilda Swinton? Need icicles head-dress (lots of empty Bic biros?)

Popfan · 26/02/2023 18:40

Do what I do every year, wear black clothes, nose and whiskers with black eyeliner and buy some cheap cat ears from amazon. You are a cat from any number of books!
