What would you definitely not have done today if you didn't have young children?

Just reflecting on how different life is to a few years back!

I leapt up from lunch to make a birthday cake and then went straight out to accompany a child's bike ride. Now sitting on bench in chill wind watching child play.

A few years back I would've considered sitting in the park at sunset in winter a hardship! Now just getting to sit down is a treat, even if it is 5 degrees!

Had to take public transport to Ikea because my DD threw up in the car on herself when we were about a mile from home.

Then going to the Ikea restaurant AND bistro. (One for a main meal and the other for desert.) Then having to sit in the cold while she played in their outside playground.

Luckily the stuff I wanted I could carry.

Take a photo of an enormous turd that took 10 minutes of concerted effort (weaning baby) and text it to my husband.

Sit on a playmat at 6am stacking cups repeatedly for said baby to knock over and giggle wildly.

Devoted Saturday (and probably Sunday) to culling the toy mountain that has taken over our house. It has been very cathartic and I have strangely been looking forward to getting it done. Still a long way to go but have made progress.

I wouldn’t have got up at 6!

Wouldn’t have had tomato pasta wiped in my hair, wouldn’t have stood outside for two hours exclaiming over various toys, wouldn’t have wiped a nose 10000 times.

But

I wouldn’t have had a good laugh with the friends I’ve made since having ds who have similarly aged children

i wouldn’t have had an amazing cuddle when I did wake up.

I wouldn’t have felt that funny secondary pleasure you get when you do something you don’t like but it makes them so happy it makes you happy too.

Oh man, my kids are now 4 and 6 and I'm tempted to say I'm done with playgrounds and standing there in the cold. God I really don't like doing that!!!

Got out of bed.
Made food.

Me and dh have got the stomach bug they had earlier in the week and we are both wiped. But 2 year old and 8 year old need looking after. Trying to tag team but 2 year old still not quite over it so it’s all hands on deck as she’s full on.

Washed approximately 37,000 loads of school uniform, scrubbed sticky hand marks off my walls, untangled an Elsa doll's hair from the Dyson. I STILL managed to wake up at bloody 5:30am though and mine were all with their Dads this morning Confused think my body is used to that wake up time now sadly!!

Ordered McDonalds from UberEats when she was out with her dad, scarfed it in bed & hidden the evidence under said bed.

I mean … I still would have done it, but leisurely and not-secretly.

I did buy her a Happy Meal for later because I’m not a monster — but DP bloody ate it & pissed off to work before I realised!!! I’m speechless really

Gone swimming in a ridiculously cold and busy pool with dirty changing rooms. Then ending up in McDonald's with the same people who were in the pool. I'm counting down to 7pm for some Netflix and chill (actual chill), shame I'm pregnant or I would love a glass of wine right now!

Got up at 6.30am after having and a few drinks out with a friend last night. Then sat in a freezing park this afternoon!

On the other hand, went out for Thai food at lunchtime with the small one and we all had a lovely time.
