Cleaning husband's ears with cotton buds.

When speaking to a friend the other day, I somehow happened to mention that I clean my husband's ears out with cotton buds every few days.

I've never really thought anything of this but she seemed to think this was really odd and something she would never do in a million years!

Now I'm starting to wonder if this, is indeed odd and something that people don't do!

It's been part of our relationship/marriage for years! 😂

@MrsJessePinkmann I was once told by a ear/hearing consultant to never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear.

I pluck grey hairs from dh's beard. Ds8 says it's his favourite hobby!

My darling, late mother used to pay my son a fiver for plucking her chin hairs out. He was delighted to do it of course.

My ex's mother used to clean his ears out cos gets eczema in them so lots of dry skin.. The thought of it knocks me sick. No way I was doing it.

Justanothercatlady · 25/02/2023 14:24

God, I had an ex who asked me to do this (and comb his head to get rid of dandruff). Which sounds like a request for help until he said his sister was the one who used to do it for him. He was mid 40s 🤢

Brings this to mind...

This is beyond weird. Do you pick his nose for him as well?

Mischance · 25/02/2023 14:28

Thats really weird. In any case it isnt a good idea. It can cause a perforated ear drum.

Absolutely. Doesn’t it even say on the packets that you shouldn’t put them in the ear canal? Even if you don’t put them in very far, it can push wax towards the eardrum until you have a plug of compacted wax.
I know a lot of people do it but there are warnings everywhere saying don’t.

BertHandsome · 25/02/2023 14:31

No, but I do like syringing my ears and then showing DP the contents of the water. He’s horrified and jealous as he doesn’t get the same waxy build up I do 😂

ThisIsTrifficult · 25/02/2023 14:35

I do this! He reminds me every couple of weeks!

Sporner Corner is that way ---->www.mumsnet.com/talk/sporner_corner

<strong stomachs required. I visited once and am still traumatised>

LetThemEatTurnips · 25/02/2023 14:43

It is weird and also a really bad idea.

No one should be using cotton buds in ears

Works better than putting oil down. Never get itchy ears from build up, never had any issues. Same for everyone in my family - except DH who vehemently refused.

crosstalk · 25/02/2023 16:59

Do not use cotton buds. Damages the ears and encourages wax. Just get him to an ear doctor to suction stuff out.

Louisetopaz21 · 25/02/2023 13:38

The cotton bit came off the plastic stick

Oh, Phew! Not the whole stick!

MusicWithRocksIn · 25/02/2023 23:30

I thought it was just me. I love cleaning DH's ears. I could never touch a spot though, not that he gets any.

MrsJessePinkmann · 28/02/2023 21:08

Thank you for all your lovely replies. I'm glad I'm not alone.

To those of you who wasn't on board, I hope this thread has expanded your mind into the wonderful world of ear cleaning and wax 😂😂😂

My mum used to do this to me as a child. I now do it to my son. I even put a clean hair pin in there to fish out offending items. Very satisfying indeed.

They are really good to itch the inside of your ears with.

piedbeauty · 28/02/2023 21:37

Yuk, yuk 🤮🤮

Why do some men need other people to clean their ears? Do they have no hands???
