Can any kind soul help me with parking in Liverpool?

I'm coming to Liverpool tomorrow and very much looking forward to it. However I'm the world's worst navigator and city centre driving really freaks me out. Worrying about where I'll park is a big part of this. Can anyone recommend somewhere to park that's easy to find and will still have spaces at that time? I'll be arriving mid afternoon, and not leaving until 9pm. I'd like to do as little city centre driving as I can get away with, and am quite happy to walk a mile or so if that's less stressful. Cost unimportant - it will be cheaper than the train for DC and me regardless. Thank you!

I would possibly suggest parking at John Lewis if you want to avoid driving through the city. Obviously it depends from which direction you are coming from? It is almost opposite the Albert Dock, although really expensive. Perhaps Albert Dock itself even? Hopefully someone will be along with better suggestions.

Victoria Street multi-storey car park? The entrance is in Crosshall Street.

We don't particularly like parking in Liverpool so we tend to get the bus or train, but if we do we use the above. Have also used the Old Haymarket parking but that tends to get full quickly as it's quite small.

I like the pay & display under the Metropolitan Cathedral.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 22/02/2023 18:04

Yeah I’d second Albert Dock or Liverpool One….both easily accessible off the Strand and the city centre a short walk 😊 neither is the cheapest option but both very convenient. Have fun, I love Liverpool!

Hi there

i live in Liverpool and I only ever park in st johns precinct car park

PauliesWalnuts · 22/02/2023 18:17

I’m not from Liverpool but have to go to meetings at Mann Island in one of our offices. I sat nav it from Manchester (trains too unreliable at the moment). IIRC the entrance to Liverpool One is in the right hand lane and I always forget so now park at John Lewis. Costs around £20 a day.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/02/2023 18:18

Thank you all. Last time I went (H driving then) there were loads of roadworks near the Empire and a usually tricky drive was horrible. This time it's just me, and I seem to remember John Lewis car park entrance being on a relatively easy to find/ well signed bit near the waterfront so might try there first.

I like the pay & display under the Metropolitan Cathedral.

I agree with this. You can avoid driving through town but it’s close enough to walk. Very easy to get to if you’re coming in through M62

LaRitournelle · 22/02/2023 18:28

Liverpool one is expensive but where I head to as it's easiest! You just need to remember to be in the right hand lane to get into it as the entrance is in the middle of the road.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 22/02/2023 18:28

I always park at Hooton and get the park and ride. Soooooo much easier and less stressful than driving into the city.

SlaveToTheVibe · 22/02/2023 18:30

Where are you coming from OP? We aleays or knob the waterfront - anything else is a nightmare.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 22/02/2023 18:34

If you're coming from the M62, the Q Park at Queen square is easy to get to. www.q-park.co.uk/en-gb/cities/liverpool/queen-square/

SouperNoodle · 22/02/2023 18:35

Just up the hill from the liner hotel is a really good car park that's really cheap

Lockupyourbiscuits · 22/02/2023 18:48

It might be easier to park on the road two stops out at a merseyrail station - depends where u driving from
the trains are cheap and frequent and take you straight into the city centre

Greengreented · 22/02/2023 18:50

I’d agree Liverpool One is reasonably easy to get to and you don’t have to go right into the central shopping/Lime St/Empire type of area, as that’s always a nightmare.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/02/2023 19:18

thanks again folks. I don't like Park and Ride - all the delays/waiting of public transport, and I can't have a cocktail to compensate. So it's drive, or train all the way, and the trains have been rubbish here recently. I can't seem to find what time the car park under the Metropolitan Cathedral chucks out, and I need to be there until around 21.30, so might aim for Liverpool One/John Lewis for safety.

really looking forward to it once we get there though - I love Liverpool.

John Lewis is definitely the easiest and should have spaces. It is expensive but it’s worth it for ease and convenience. Hope you have a good trip!

Whyishewearingasombero · 22/02/2023 19:26

Could you book a spare driveway through Just Park?

Straysocks · 22/02/2023 19:27

Are you just visiting the city for a browse? If you tell us where you're going we can advise better. Mount Pleasant NCP is £6 per day.

Wittow · 22/02/2023 19:28

Where are you visiting? Is kings Dock at the waterfront an option?

SusiePevensie · 22/02/2023 19:29

Have you looked at getting a family and friends railcard? 1/3 off tickets.

Neverknowinglysensible · 22/02/2023 19:31

Definitely John Lewis for ease. Yes, it is shockingly expensive but it’s well lit and central.
St John’s can be a nightmare to get to if you don’t know which lane to be in, and I always find it a little dark and scary.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/02/2023 19:39

Website says it shuts at 8. We have a thing in the evening and won't be leaving until 21.00-21.30ish. Quite a few I've checked out either shut early or don't display closing times, and for peace of mind I'd like somewhere that declares loud and proud that it's open until 22.00.

Have a look at Parking Bee Liverpool- they are 24hr. If it helps street parking is free after 6pm.

WhiskersPete · 22/02/2023 20:00

Mount Pleasant NCP is £6 per day.

Don't use Mount Pleasant. All the lifts have been out for weeks and it's a long walk up to the top!

If cost isn't an issue then defo use John Lewis as you don't have to drive through town - just use The Strand by the water front and you can walk straight out into the city centre.
