How rude is Karen’s diner, really?

Is it personal? Would they call me a fatty and take the piss out of my big nose? My DP wants to go but I fear they will rip us to shreds!

I can't see why anyone would want to go to one to be honest.

VirtualRealitee · 22/02/2023 15:30

Yes of course they will.

That's the exact point of Karen's diner.

SpookTacula · 22/02/2023 15:30

Why the fuck would anyone pay for this shit.

Deathraystare · 22/02/2023 15:32

It sounds like that Chinese restaurant in London!

Nope I won't be going. I prefer to eat in a calm atmosphere.

Hmm ok. Don’t think I’ll go. DH thinks it’s hilarious, he’ll start back at them like he is heckling (he is quite funny) but even so. He can take someone else!

The whole concept is awful. And misogynistic.

Arthurflecksfacepaint · 22/02/2023 15:45

And the food is supposed to be crap too.

Maverickess · 22/02/2023 15:51

I thought the concept was more giving intentionally bad service rather than being personally insulting?

Like "What do you want now? Another drink? How about you get off your backside and get it yourself as you can see I'm actually doing something else right now and you do know that the world doesn't revolve around you right?!"

Rather than "Oi, fatty, your nose is fucking huge!"

I haven't been to one so I may well be mistaken though!

He'll get slaughtered if he tries to heckle.

Have neither of you seen all the online video clips?

Fartyfaceee · 22/02/2023 15:56

I saw a pic of someone who took their kids on Facebook, their young daughter was wearing a hat saying ‘I supplied girls for Epstein’. I mean these are pretty shit people anyway, but fuck me that was a new low even for them.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/02/2023 15:57

I haven’t personally wanted to go, it’s him who thinks it’ll be hilarious 😬 I’m going to watch some videos now. He won’t get slaughtered, he’s hilarious (but fat with a big nose also) so probably prime target.

You are going to have to explain how it’s misogynistic 😂

VogueDarling · 22/02/2023 15:57

They genuinely will say something about weight because it's an easy one for them to do

A Facebook friend took her child... I know... and the child was wearing a paper hat saying "mistake"

KindlyKanga · 22/02/2023 16:00

Not a place for a child

NashvilleQueen · 22/02/2023 16:01

Someone I know went just before Christmas and on one of the tables was a family with a small child (absolutely asking for trouble obviously) and they told him Father Christmas isn't real. I do think it slightly serves them right.

Another friend went the week it opened nearby and sent me videos. It was genuinely shocking. I don't think I could bear it. She was made to do some sort of catwalk and they really took the piss out of her.

Wow.

Yeah I’m not going. I’ll leave that to him.

I’d never heard of it, but just googled, and under rules it does say “no body shaming”.

You’d have to be an idiot to take a child.

AnotherSpare · 22/02/2023 16:06

How long are people going to encourage the use of "Karen" as an insult? It's ridiculous, insulting, misogynistic, pathetic.

I know people named Karen, it genuinely affects their daily life. I manage someone named Karen who has needed to take sick leave with anxiety because she felt so awful just having to introduce herself to new clients.

How would you feel if your own name suddenly became used as an insult?

Anyone who goes to that diner is encouraging it, and is as pathetic as those who who coined the stupid insult in the first place.

BetterArf · 22/02/2023 16:07

I’ve never heard of it but just searched and there is one not too far from me.

Shit menu, grotty looking interior. And the concept is…well, it makes me question society at large when this is a business model that ever got off the ground.

Xrays · 22/02/2023 16:08

I don’t like this sort of humour, it’s basically being offensive and laughing at other people. It’s endorsed bullying. I can’t understand why people find it funny. My dh does and would love to go but I find it revolting.

DaisyDucks · 22/02/2023 16:20

I don’t think they make personal comments. They just put on a performance of a waitress that can’t be bothered and isn’t good as her job.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/02/2023 16:22

I’ve looked at some of the videos and a lot of it looks like teenage girls just having a bit of a strop and rolling their eyes. There’s no actual humour or even real insults, they just say things like “hurry up” or “you’re a bit of a dickhead”

Benjispruce4 · 22/02/2023 16:31

Never heard of it. Must Google but it sounds unpleasant.
