Anyone else find photos of themselves unbearable

I was at a site meeting at work yesterday and at the day of the day the team leader at the site asked for a group meeting photo. I was pressurised into getting in the photo of them all, it's on LinkedIn today. I look like a monster. I have very bad, shortsighted eyesight so my glasses don't look great. I have gained weight through PCOS.

I could literally cry and I'm trying so hard not too.

I've had eating disorders whole life and this is such a trigger for me.

Please tell me I'm not alone.

You are not alone. I absolutely abhor myself. I barely have any pictures of me and my child.

Simplepink · 22/02/2023 15:11

Yes 😞 I honestly think it’s a phobia

OfDragonsDeep · 22/02/2023 15:14

Yep, I have a double chin which always shows up in photos 😭 I didn’t used to look so bad before kids!

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2023 15:16

Same. I will do anything to avoid having my photograph taken. I hate it.

Justcallmebebes · 22/02/2023 15:16

Me too. I always look like I've been dead a 100 years and dug up. My daughter and I were talking about this recently and she commented that if I died tomorrow, they would have no photos of me whatsoever that weren't taken about 20 years ago. Suits me!

Spangers · 22/02/2023 15:18

Same I’m not particularly attractive but still I’m unbelievably unphotogenic! Even after losing weight my face is just so massive and weird. I still relive the horror of getting my late secondary school photo and realising I’m a monster. It makes me sad I have hardly any pictures of me and my DC.

ThoroughlyEnjoyable · 22/02/2023 15:20

Yes. I can't understand if you're meant to show your teeth when you smile. So I do sort of half in, half out

REP22 · 22/02/2023 15:21

Me too. I hate being photographed. I hide at the back of the group if I possibly can.

I daresay that you probably don't look as bad as you think you do, but that's something that other people say to me and I never believe them, so I know how you feel. x

BentleyRhythmAce · 22/02/2023 15:23

Absolutely hate it. I don't like mirrors either. I'm absolutely hideous and don't need reminding of the fact. I used to be slim and ugly, now I'm fat and ugly, and photos are unbearable.

Deathraystare · 22/02/2023 15:24

I used to look good in photos even though I have always been overweight but just lately I have noticed my face is big and I look like Mrs Potato Head!

I sent a photo of my eyebrows (had them done at a salon) to my Godson's wife (she works in a salon so of interest to her). My face looked huge!!

flabbygoldfish · 22/02/2023 15:27

Absolutely hate my photo been taken-just look hideous. Yet some people insist on it. 😢

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 22/02/2023 15:28

I can't stand mirrors either, I can't face going into changing rooms in shops or I ignore my reflection where possible if there is one on the shop floor.

It's nearly 8 years since any pics of me have been taken. And that was at my own wedding!
None at all. Whatsoever.

fairgame84 · 22/02/2023 15:31

I look hideous in photos. There's probably only 2 photos of me and 4 month old DD because I just look dreadful. I don't look that bad in real life but the camera hates me.

Frogdinner · 22/02/2023 15:41

Absolutely with you! I spend time on hair and makeup and think I look ok.

See a photo of myself and all I see are the negatives- the fat rolls, the grey roots, bad posture.

tatteddear · 22/02/2023 15:43

I look awful in photos. Really really bad. I don't *think I look that bad in real
Life (but maybe I do). But I literally ruin all our family pictures and I find it so upsetting. So I hear you OP.
There is no totally avoiding it either in this day and age :(

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/02/2023 15:45

I’m not remotely photogenic and try to avoid any situation in which a photo might be on the cards. Tricky when it comes to weddings.

This is so sad. Your child loves you and does not give two hoots what you look like. They will love to have photos to look back on in the future.

blobby10 · 22/02/2023 15:49

Another totally unphotogenic person here - there is only one photograph of me that was taken over the past 30 years that I actually like and it was a studio shot of me with my 3 adult children, all lying on our fronts. its black and white which helps but otherwise I look revolting. I avoid mirrors like the plague and have perfected the art of looking in one to tidy my hair without 'looking' at me (if you see what I mean!)
In real life I am getting more and more unattractive and have deteriorated drastically over the past 18 months. But I keep focussing on the fact that my children love me so I can't be that bad can I?

postwarbulge · 22/02/2023 15:54

Anyone who got married, or went to a wedding in the Seventies would. The sideburns, kipper ties, jackets and shirts were so large they would generate lift in a moderate breeze. I shall not describe the female fashions; too close to home

MobyJeff · 22/02/2023 15:54

Same here. At my last workplace they insisted upon individual photos of all the team online. I dodged for as long as possible until the owner of the business himself cornered me with a camera. I tried to tell him, but he was having none of it, thought I was being falsely modest or something. Anyway. He took my photo several times, with glasses, without glasses, indoors, outdoors. Over and over. Guess what? It was never uploaded to the website. I’ve now left. I never did have a photo on the company page.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 22/02/2023 15:54

Same here, you are not alone. I don't have one single picture of me that I like. I have even cut myself out of pictures before. There are about 2 pictures of me with my DS. My OH keeps them, because he knows I would destroy them if I found them. I am hideously unattractive - if I smile in pictures I look like I'm gurning. If I ever catch myself in the mirror I can't bear it, I just look like a bad witch from a fairy tale.

Comedycook · 22/02/2023 15:55

I hate having my photo taken. In the mirror I look lik a fairly normal person. In photos I'm a monster.

watcherintherye · 22/02/2023 16:05

I’m so unphotogenic - very rarely do I feel that I’m not spoiling group photos. Part of the problem is that I can’t smile to order, so end up with some awful fixed gurn on my face, while everyone else looks relaxed, happy and natural!

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 22/02/2023 16:10

I'm just so gutted to see this picture today. Its put me in such a horrible mood.
