Anyone else find photos of themselves unbearable

I was at a site meeting at work yesterday and at the day of the day the team leader at the site asked for a group meeting photo. I was pressurised into getting in the photo of them all, it's on LinkedIn today. I look like a monster. I have very bad, shortsighted eyesight so my glasses don't look great. I have gained weight through PCOS.

I could literally cry and I'm trying so hard not too.

I've had eating disorders whole life and this is such a trigger for me.

Please tell me I'm not alone.

It's really sad to read that so many people hate how they look/ hate photos of themselves.

I am 100% certain that all the people posting on this thread do not look as awful as they think they do.

I loathe we live in social media age of obsession with taking photos 📸 for anything and everything
Hardly anything is Sacred off limits these days when it comes to capture the moment

Some things /moment are so Speacial ect

It's difficult to capture what makes that mature something worth capturing

Grrrr

I take the odd selfie's and mess around with the filters a lot and try different things : still looks shit and delete them all! It's really that bad

HeyBearILoveYou · 23/02/2023 08:37

I look hideous in photos taken OF me by other people, but fine in selfies. Apparently my face is only passable when photographed in reverse 🤷🏻‍♀️

Might start walking around with some sort of mirror contraption strapped round my neck, so people only see a reflection of me!

ToddlerTerror · 23/02/2023 08:40

I always look horrid in photos. I don't know why because I don't look like then when I look in the mirror. Even my husband agrees that something weird goes on with me in photos Confused
I have recently had to re-do my passport application and when I say I had to take over 50 selfies to get one that was passable, I am not exaggerating!

Being very brutal here.

There is going to be a time when we are all no longer here and all our loved ones are going to have is photos. I understand not wanting to be photographed but having a photograph isn't all about us. My dad has dementia and it is hugely comforting for him to be able to look at photos 40 years ago of us as children, or wedding photos, or Christmas photos and talk about people he remembers.

If I ever see anyone pointing a phone or camera in my direction, I will move out the way really quickly. I loathe having my photo taken, I am not photogenic at all.

When my brother got married back in the late 90s, I was horrified when I saw the photos, I thought I looked ok on the day but as photos never lie, I was so disappointed when I saw myself, I looked huge.

NeedWineNow · 23/02/2023 08:54

Same. There are very few photos of me where I am happy with them, and those are only headshots. The camera sticks at least two stone on me so I always look a lot larger than I am.

QueefQueen80s · 23/02/2023 09:48

Take a video of yourself, that is how you look.. photos are weird! People who have had loads of botox and lip fillers etc look AMAZING in photos with filters added etc.. they look very plastic and unnatural in person. Then others look weird in photos as a 2d image doesn't capture features right but look lovely in person. I have big eyes and cheekbones but in some photos my eyes are like slits and I have hamster cheeks. A moving video is more accurate.

NeedWineNow · 23/02/2023 09:51

@QueefQueen80s I’m not sure about that. Friends sent photos and a video from their wedding last year. I look worse in the video! Admittedly it was late, and I’d had a LOT of Prosecco (ahem)….

QueefQueen80s · 23/02/2023 09:55

Oh god yeah I'm not sure I'd like that either 😂 but one thing I did was propped my phone up in different places and recorded video of me pottering, chatting to myself, singing, just looking at the screen moving my face etc.. it made me feel a lot better. We all look better when we are moving and that's what people see.

QueefQueen80s · 23/02/2023 09:57

I'm just so sad at this thread and want to hug everyone. Women, the givers of life, feeling ugly and not having pics with their kids.. because of mens ridiculous standards and celebs etc. Grrr I hate it.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 23/02/2023 10:29

I honestly don't think I'm that bad looking but the camera absolutely hates my face. I had to have a pic taken for a pass and I looked like my DGM; and not in a good way. I have always hated having my picture taken - late DM used to moan that she had no recent pix of me and I had to tell her that she wouldn't be having them, either. Something weird happens to my face when a camera is pointed at it.
