A CF caught in the act

I have a plant pot outside my front door and a couple of little garden ornaments sitting next to it, a zebra and a gnome. My children picked them and consider them to be theirs.

I spotted somebody loitering so opened the blinds and caught an elderly lady red handed putting the zebra in her bag.

To be honest I'm surprised they've lasted as long as they have around here but I didn't expect the culprit to be an elderly woman😂

I hope the dandelions are good in the Elysian fields.

Maybe I should get some guinea pigs to save me from revenge of the dandelions.

Guinea pigs are delightful little creatures. If you have somewhere that you can bring them indoors during the winter (or keep them inside all year, if you prefer) then I thoroughly recommend them. They are nervous, but highly intelligent creatures.

This lady has quite a few guinea pig related videos online.

Where I work there were some brown leather couches set out in an area. One day one went missing and it was on cctv being carried down the stairs and into a van. Just someone helping themselves. We once had a Head of.... who was leaving the job and asked his secretary to drop his v.expensive office chair off at his house the week after he left. Think nearly £1k. I pointed out to her that the chair belonged to the employer and she was the one poss on cctv loading the chair into her car. Also have people who want to keep their macbook/works phone etc. Some don't even want to bring their laptop to work. It's too heavy or their partner is using it.

Many moons ago,I was at a girl guides jumble sale-I was running the bric-a-brac
a child of about 4-5 ran up and snatched a toy from my stall and ran off-he was so fast
i lost him in the crowd and reported it to the leader
about 20 minutes later,I saw him handing something to an old lady who was praising the hell out of him
the leader (I wouldn’t have messed with her-she was tough) stopped the lady and made her open her bags-full to the brim with stolen items (she must have gone to the shop before they came to us)
the old lady did the whole ’oh,I’m such a dotty old lady’ act-all fake-she was training up her grandson to do it too
some people have no shame at all

I’m going back to the late 80’s/early 90’s
i have no idea what happened
all I do know is that they where so brazen

Gwen82 · 23/02/2023 15:13

“They” weren’t brazen. He was a very young child being groomed by a family member to steal. Would have likely been the tip of the iceberg re what was going on behind closed doors sadly

LoisLane66 · 23/02/2023 19:57

@Kinelll
If I were you I'd remove the photo as it's easy to discover the exact location down to the GPS co-ordinates and even the phone used to take the photo.

When I lived in the UK I had a little 2 bed victorian terraced house, the ones where you have a little postage stamp garden (mined was paved over) at the front. I had a little collection of pots and planters which made it look cheerful and cared for, but the number of pots (complete with plants) I had stolen was crazy, but I could never spot who was taking them. Eventually I superglued them onto the paving stones, which I didn't really expect would work, but it did. Then a couple of weeks later I was in my living room (which looked out to the street) and glanced out the window. Saw a figure bent over, and obviously struggling. Turned out it was a neighbour from 2 doors down who was trying to take a pot with some pansies in it, but couldn't get it off the ground because of the superglue.

When I went out and challenged her she just ran off and wouldn't speak to me.

I then went and took a look over her fence into her back yard, and there were all my missing pots and plants - about 12 in total.

Ended up going round that evening with DH and demanded the pots back. At first she denied it all, but then her husband came to the door too and agreed we could take them back. I think he was really embarrassed by the whole thing, but she definitely wasn't!

She never spoke to us again after that and about a year later we moved - but I did warn the new owner to be careful about putting planters outside.

There really are some CFs around!

Bloody hell!

Above pic inspired by the ’oh, I’m such a dotty old lady’ act from this post

I can understand some thinking items on the road are to take for recycling and free to anyone.
Items within gardens however are a different matter, that’s blatant theft.

dancinfeet · 23/02/2023 21:14

I’ve had someone help themselves to yellow label / discounted food from my shopping trolley when I wasn’t looking, that was pretty shit when I was a skint single mum. (and no I didn’t have loads of reduced stuff, just a few things).
Also had someone break in to the rented house we were living in (when I was a teenager) and steal the victorian bannister from the stairs, a large fireplace, and all the lead water pipes from the kitchen leaving gaping holes in the walls and water gushing all over the kitchen. We were intending to move out in the near future but not at that very moment, so we’re a bit 😮 to come home to that.

UnicornsDoExist · 23/02/2023 22:41

Flower pots have been stolen off my mothers grave, we have to put cheap plastic planters now. very sad to steal from a grave

Emotionalsupportviper · 24/02/2023 09:19

Agre @UnicornsDoExist

A local family had teddy bears etc stolen from their baby's grave, A horrible thing for anyone to to, even if it was children responsible.

Frogdinner · 24/02/2023 10:01

Noticed the new slate was thinning on one patch of the front garden. Saw two little girls with a carrier bag gathering it up but wasn't quick enough to go out.

Eventually after a few weeks of the slate continuing to disappear, saw the girls unloading their haul with mother's help the other side of their fence!

Emotionalsupportviper · 24/02/2023 10:59

Teaching children to steal is iniquitous, @Frogdinner

Were you able to do anything about it? It's very difficult when you "know" but can't "prove".

I don’t think your choice of “iniquitous” is probably best choice of word in this context.

Frogdinner · 24/02/2023 11:24

@Emotionalsupportviper Their mother was the other side of the fence when they were passing it through. I said to the girls that I'd noticed them admiring my slate and if their mummy would like details of where I got it from, to let me know.

And? You said this as they were passing it to their mother? Why not just talk to the mother?

Frogdinner · 24/02/2023 11:37

@Gwen82 I said the mother was the other side of the fence. I didn't see the mother, only the girls. She was in earshot, it was said ever so nicely and gently, as you would to little children. Please do not fret.

Gwen82 · 24/02/2023 11:46

And then what happened? After you caught them in the act?

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 24/02/2023 11:47

FFS @Gwen82 why don't you remove that stick from up your arse and chill out

The irony of this post! 😂

i am curious what happens after you literally catch someone in the act. Did the pp get them back, the girls and mum run off, the girls turn demonic and throw the slates at the PP?!

RicherThanYews · 24/02/2023 11:52

Unicornsdoexist, I'm sincerely sorry that you're going through this too. My sisters grave has been vandalised since the day of her funeral by our bio "father", her children take flowers and ornaments for her but they're either smashed or stolen. It's a horrible thing for anyone to do 💕
