F***ING RYANAIR. A Warning

Wavingnotdowning · 20/02/2023 12:48

Please don't make the expensive mistake I have. I booked my parking at Stansted at the same time as my flight. Now my flight has been moved to a day earlier. I cannot change my parking as, although booked through Ryanair, it is with a third party. I have now to wave goodbye. £69.99. So please all be careful, book directly with the parking company itself, which allows you to amend your times. Rant over!

Have flown with Ryanair at least 60-80 times. Never had an issue. They're the most on time flights we've used. Yes the can be fussy with hand luggage etc but you just need to understand the rules. I would never book any extras through them. I just use a comparison site which have always been cheaper.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/02/2023 14:15

Oh I’m so glad that was helpful @Wavingnotdowning! Have a great time!

Choconut · 20/02/2023 14:16

Why couldn't you just book parking for that one extra day? Why would you need to cancel the parking for all the other days? I realise you still have to pay for that extra day but I don't know why you would need to cancel and rebook and lose so much money.
I do find Ryanair to be shit and avoid if at all possible and it is their fault as they've changed your dates but you can guarantee they won't give a shit!

jonnyfancypants · 20/02/2023 14:18

@Wavingnotdowning you should be able to claim for something like this on your travel insurance if you have it. (I have mine through my bank account so have year-round cover). As long as you have proof that Ryanair changed your booking and that you have been refused a refund for parking, that's all the evidence you been. Hopefully!!!

I guess if you'd booked Drop & Go or Meet & Greet or equivalent.

Catspyjamas17 · 20/02/2023 14:45

Not sure about booking car hire with them now.

unsync · 20/02/2023 14:47

Ryanair groundstaff at Stansted are awful too. Never again.

We had something similar. Booked parking via Ryanair and DH has since changed his car. Ended up writing it off and paying for new parking due to the new registration.

In future order number plates off the Internet (show plates so no log book needed) and affix it to your car as you arrive. Numberplate cost about 15 for a pair. I have a number plate I use when booking and do this all the time regardless of what car I am driving. It is on private land so I can't see that there can be any comeback.

Igenix4 · 20/02/2023 15:23

Good advice is to not fly Ryanair in general

LunaM · 20/02/2023 15:33

steelseries · 20/02/2023 13:09

Did you miss the bit in the OP where it says the parking was booked through Ryanair?!

She said a third party through Ryanair.

thecatsthecats · 20/02/2023 15:35

This happened to me and I just booked a separate extra day in the relevant car park covering until about an hour after the first booking (wasn't Ryanair, just another immovable booking).

I like Ryanair. Never had any trouble with them, frequent flyer.

Wizzair on the other hand, fuck me...

Wexone · 20/02/2023 15:36

@KattyKattyKatz you can fly aer lingus or fly to Belfast with Easyjet. Also you can get the ferry to Rosslare, Cork, Waterford or Dublin. Loads of ways to get to Ireland instead of using Ryan Air

Della1 · 20/02/2023 15:43

Similar happened to me. Booked through Ryanair app and felt v smug that I was so organised about parking. Anyway, they never sent my parking details through. Contacted car park and they advised to go back to Ryanair, who then sent me to a Stansted airport number. Nobody took responsibility for the booking. I ended up on some frustrating loop of phone calls, most of which were automated so end up pushing lots of buttons and getting more annoyed. Never again. Cost me £100.

LlynTegid · 20/02/2023 15:49

Sorry to read about this, not one I've heard of before. This year marks 30 years since my last flight ever with Ryanair. I'd only ever consider them if it was the only possible way to get to attend someone's funeral.

wonderstuff · 20/02/2023 15:52

I’ve not flown with Ryanair since they double charged me due to a computer glitch and refused to refund me in 1998.

TheChosenTwo · 20/02/2023 16:00

Can you just add an additional days parking on to your booking? Or book that day using the actual car park website? I shouldn’t think you’d have to lose the whole booking.
I used to fly with Ryan air regularly and genuinely never had a problem with them, always took off and landed swiftly, they were very upfront about reading the terms and conditions, very no frills etc. I’ve had more disasters with BA than I have Ryanair (I mean, BA really used to mean something when I was a kid, it was seen as very ‘posh’ whereas these days they’re as low budget as the rest of them).

LabradorEyes · 20/02/2023 16:05

KattyKattyKatz · 20/02/2023 13:02

I would love to go to Ireland but Ryanair is the only way I would get there so no

I go to Ireland with work very regularly. Always with BA or Airlingus. Ryanair is not the only way to get there

husbandcallsmepickle · 20/02/2023 16:10

@TinpotNostradamus I like your style. Will let DH know your cunning plan

KnottyKnitting · 20/02/2023 16:13

We book our parking through Holiday extras and you can change or cancel the booking easily. You can also pay a few pounds extra to accommodate for delays and there is even the choice to get your money back if your flight is cancelled after you have parked. Their prices are also very very competitive.

TenoringBehind · 20/02/2023 16:16

Your issue is with the third party, not Ryanair.

Dh uses them twice a week most weeks and has only once had a problem (out of hundreds of flights) when an aircraft had engine problems and a new one had to be found. They will do anything to avoid being late because of the huge cost penalties if that happens.

Chersfrozenface · 20/02/2023 16:20

"They will do anything to avoid being late because of the huge cost penalties if that happens."

Well last summer two of us were over 7 hours late getting to our destination with Ryanair. Not a penny in compensation, not a single word of reply to repeated complaints.

Never again.

Benjispruce4 · 20/02/2023 16:26

I refuse to fly Ryanair after shocking customer service years back. Aer Lingus are fabulous though!

TenoringBehind · 20/02/2023 16:26

Cost penalties for them as an airline. They get fined a huge amount.

(dh works in this area)

The authorities, CAA etc, should make sure they pay customers compensation (to which they are usually entitled) before even thinking of fining them.

Priorities.

Hawkins003 · 20/02/2023 16:31

@Wavingnotdowning how is it Ryanair fault about the days not being changeable ?
