In A&E, any company and a hand holds please?

I came to A&E with chest pains/heavy chest, hot and sweaty and felt weak. They did my blood pressure and ECG which both came back fine and now have to wait 6 hours to see a Doctor. I'm hoping it's nothing serious as my vitals came back ok. Would just be grateful for any company ❤️❤️

Hand hold here. Hope you can get home soon

GinIsMySaviour · 19/02/2023 02:45

Hi! Sorry you’re feeling unwell. You’re in the right place and I am sure your test results are encouraging.

Are you comfortable? Do you have a book / downloaded movie etc?

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 02:50

Thank you both ❤️ really appreciate the company tonight. No I didn't think to grab a book and not sure I could focus on a film but might have a quick look on disney or nowtv, see what's on there x

Normal ECG is a good sign, hoping all is well and you can get some rest. Sorry you’ve got such a long wait xx

Fuckityfuckfuck123 · 19/02/2023 02:57

Sounds like good signs OP, do you suffer from anxiety?
Have you been stressed recently? When I went to A&E with similar, it turned out it was my anxiety playing up- anxiety is a gift that keeps giving, as soon as you think you know how it affects you, it switches up!

Hoping you're OK, and your outcome is as trivial as mine was!

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 03:05

@Nonymousnurse thank you xx
@Fuckityfuckfuck123 Yes I do get bad anxiety but this feeling I've never had before, I called 111 first so not to waste time/reassurance and they said to get to A&E. I've been extra healthy lately, loads of fish/veg/fruit to try and help myself but this still happened. Really caught me off guard, I'd just got into bed 🙈

I've also had a similar experience - although the ambulance picked up something weird on my ECG which doctor said at a&e was actually my anxiety!!! As a long term sufferer of anxiety I was shocked as I had never had such a pain in my chest before!

I know it's scary but it's great that your vitals are good - if they were worried you wouldn't be in the waiting room... so that's a good place to be in an odd way.

How you holding up? I take it it's busy in there?

HateEatingInTheDark · 19/02/2023 03:38

Have they done some blood tests?

Have you asked for some pain meds
If not, Ask for some

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 03:40

@Orla32 I'm not doing too bad now, trying to stay calm..My left arm is aching but probably from the blood test.
Yeah it's quite busy. 1 or 2 people around also look upset/anxious😔
I just really want this anxiety to go away, it's so tiring. Sick of it. I need some strong meds and a shrink on speed dial lol x

Yes! Or a live in shrink... my dear anxiety is why I am up now!! Horrible. Is your anxiety generalised or about something specific? X

HateEatingInTheDark · 19/02/2023 03:43

Is the pain in your arm new? Do they know about it?
Make sure they know about any ‘new’ symptoms

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 03:55

@Orla32 I think it's a build up of things, daily life stress and also childhood trauma. I've already had therapy on the NHS but thinking of going private. Sorry you're going through this too. I really sympathise, I've always been a nervous person but didn't know anxiety could be so bad. What causes your anxiety? X

Yeo - with you on the childhood trauma. It's not fun. Do you have a good support network around you?

I have emetophobia so very specific but affects me everyday!

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 04:15

@Orla32 Yeah my partner, what about you?
I don't know if this will help as I'm no therapist obviously but try and see the V word as a good thing. If it happens it's getting sickness out of you and keeping your body healthy. Probably not helpful at all sorry.

How are you doing OP? I suffer with anxiety as well and have been exactly where you are. Do you take any medication for it? Xx

Rainbowqueeen · 19/02/2023 05:01

Hand holding here too.
it’s a great sign that your vitals have come back normal. I’d find something to watch that’s light and you do t need to concentrate too hard to follow, even something you’ve seen before. Focus on deep breathing See if you can drift off into a doze

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 05:17

@BlueKaftan I haven't reacted well to meds I've tried, I think my mind is just stubborn and tries to fight it. I'm always scared I'll have a reaction to it. Really irrational I know.
I'm just super tired of feeling like this, I feel like I need to be sectioned with intensive therapy or something. Sounds dramatic but my list of issues is long. Sorry to hear you suffer from the same xx

Handholding- anxiety is a bastard. Hope you have been seen now xx

Emelene · 19/02/2023 05:47

I hope you get seen soon. Anxiety / panic attacks can be awful and lots of people think they are having a heart attack or dying in some way before they realise it’s caused by anxiety. If that’s what the doctor says it is they may have some suggestions for you to help.

When you get home, can you plan a treat for yourself? Flowers

BCBird · 19/02/2023 06:28

I hope u start to feel better and find sime long term help.and peace.

Ruthy45 · 19/02/2023 06:33

The GP at A&E has really helped me, he's referred me to a psychologist as I said I can't cope anymore and broke down.
Thanks everyone for being so lovely. I really needed it xx
He's testing my thyroid as well just incase so I have to wait for the results for that and then I can go home
