Very painful urinating - ring 111 or wait till Monday?

I am very susceptible to UTIs but it’s never been this painful before when going to the loo. It feels as if the pain is inside and physically hurts, and for a while afterwards too. I don’t know what the cause could be. I was due on my period yesterday. I stupidly had unprotected sex last week (he didn’t orgasm) and I’ve already done an STI test which is negative for everything.

I don’t know whether to ring 111 and try get an out of hours GP appointment or wait until Monday to see my own GP, and try and drink loads of water in the meantime and not cry when I go to the loo. AIBU if I did ring 111?

I wouldn't wait.
Mine water infection spread to my kidney and the agony. I was puking and passing out from the pain.
Ring out of hours gp and get pro advise.

Call 111, antibiotics take 24/48 hours to work anyway so get seen asap

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/02/2023 14:50

My Dd recently filled in 111 online form in and Dr rang her and sent prescription to chemist for uti.

userxx · 18/02/2023 15:00

Could be a kidney stone.

Geranium1984 · 18/02/2023 15:10

Ring 111 , I had mastitis the other week and the gp gave me a prescription over the phone. I picked up the antibiotics at my local pharmacy an hour later.

Enko · 18/02/2023 15:12

Call and get antibiotics ASAP. Another one who ended up with a kidney infection here when ignoring it.

LadyWithLapdog · 18/02/2023 15:15

Call now. Does your surgery not have something in place for out of hours? Ours has a Hub; never used it, but I remember they were pushing it a while back (via text messages).

Mindymomo · 18/02/2023 15:17

Some pharmacies will prescribe antibiotics for UTI, you could try this, if not 111.

Dreamingofasandybeach · 18/02/2023 15:19

ring 111 and a Dr should call you back and be able to prescribe you some antibiotics to pick up hun xx

legofrostqueen · 18/02/2023 15:28

Call 111, the out of hours doc will send a prescription to the pharmacy for antibiotics

Rainbowshine · 18/02/2023 15:30

Boots run an online doctor service, yes you have to pay but after not being able to even speak to a GP over the phone for 5 days I used it recently, it was very efficient and I was prescribed antibiotics which were ready to collect in four hours (usually takes 2 days for the GP to send a prescription to our pharmacy and for it to be ready) and had a follow up email from the doctor asking if they had cleared the infection. Sorry I sound like an advert but it was the only way I could get treatment.

Foodylicious · 18/02/2023 15:32

Go to your local walk in centre if you have one.

blackheartsgirl · 18/02/2023 15:37

I had antibiotics from our local pharmacy within a day of getting a uti a couple of weeks ago.
Dont leave it. I got a kidney infection from not getting treatment quickly

Oh really ? How much did it cost if you don't mind me asking.

Fudgecookie4 · 18/02/2023 15:52

It could be chlamydia. This can present with severe pain and urgency to urinate. If you only had unprotected sex one week ago, how have you had a clear test? Results normally take a week and it takes 7-14 days to be detected.

If the pain is unbearable then seek medical advice, and don’t wait just because it’s the weekend. If they suspect chlamydia you can start on antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon.

Timeforabiscuit · 18/02/2023 16:03

I did the boots one and it cost £23, it was worth it for me as I was in crippling pain at 4am and the prescription was ready for me that morning.

GoldilockMom · 18/02/2023 16:04

This! They can prescribe 3 days worth over the counter - normal prescription charge.

AllTheThingsIWantAreHere · 18/02/2023 16:04

I'm prone to cystitis and was explicitly told to call 111 last time if it flared up. My gp had put me on antibiotics but it flared up at the weekend so I filled out the online 111 form and a doctor called me back in a few hours. She wrote me a stronger prescription.

AllTheThingsIWantAreHere · 18/02/2023 16:06

If you are prone to cystitis then the Boots drs etc may not be able to help. I'm no a doctor though!.

HateEatingInTheDark · 18/02/2023 16:10

Dont wait - 111 today

In the mean time keep your fluids up and you may find weeing in the bath a little easier if that is a possibility

Rainbowshine · 18/02/2023 16:38

The Boots doctors do treat cystitis - it’s one of the headline items on their website. £23 for the service, the normal prescription charge is on top of that if you pay for them at the pharmacy.

Lala1937 · 22/02/2023 16:33

So I (stupidly) didn’t call 111 in the end. Ended up taking some amoxicillin which I had out of desperation which relieved the pain when going to the loo but then woke up on Monday morning and felt sick, tired, headache, very hot.

Saw the GP on Monday and got nitro which I only started last night. Continued to feel rough all of yesterday and then this morning I was very physically sick. Spent all day in bed.

Wondering if I have a kidney infection. Does nitro treat kidney infections??

UTIs are really serious. Get to the GP as a matter of priority.
