Will.i be disappointed if I spend ££££ on Cirque de Solei?

I've had a hankering to go forever but it's always been so expensive, especially if you were looking at buying tickets for the family.

I'm considering buying myself a present and going alone for my birthday, but it's still a lot of money. Usually I only go to the theater on last minute tickets because I can't bring myself to spend the money for a full priced one.

If I spend c. £150 on one ticket, will I come away amazed or disappointed? I can afford it, it's not something I'd have to save specially for, but even so...

We've seen it on and off over the years and never been disappointed. It is amazing.

Chasedbythechaser · 17/02/2023 19:38

I’ve been twice. First time had cheap tickets and terrible seats. I loved it. Second time, I had expensive tickets and better seats. It was still good but I didn’t enjoy it as much. The thrill and excitement wasn’t there. I wouldn’t go again tbh unless my kids want to go as a special treat.

Definitely go but don’t feel you have to buy the ‘best seats’.

ihatethecold · 17/02/2023 19:39

It’s very good. Go and enjoy yourself

WonkyFeelings · 17/02/2023 19:41

The last one we saw, Kurios, was stunning. So worth the money! Do treat yourself, I think you’ll love it. The whole audience gasped more than once.

100% worth the money.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/02/2023 19:42

I just think if you want to spend that much money find someone to go with and make an evening of it

zurala · 17/02/2023 19:43

It's amazing, well worth going.

mondaytosunday · 17/02/2023 19:49

Watch it on YouTube?!?!?
Theatre is expensive- we went to Phantom of the Opera last year, excellent but running for years, and paid about £80/ticket. I'd definitely pay up to £150 to see a limited run of such a spectacular as Cirque de Solei, though I've heard some productions are better than others (understandably).
But perhaps consider Shen Yun - it looks amazing.

BHRK · 17/02/2023 19:51

Of course you should go

NewChange · 17/02/2023 19:54

I saw them in the 80s and it was great but not silly money. I don’t think I’d pay £150 for it. I’m sure it’s a different beast now, mind.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/02/2023 19:56

It's fabulous. Go.

MindTheAbyss · 17/02/2023 20:02

Can’t remember the show I went to but it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Went in a group where none of us had been before and even the most cynical of my friends was grinning like a 5-year-old. I’m not sure it would feel the same a second time but I absolutely loved being so utterly surprised by every single minute!

MorganSeventh · 17/02/2023 20:08

I've been a couple of times. Once when friends wanted to go, and once in Vegas where tickets are relatively cheap because the shows have residencies at the hotels there. Both times I thought it was fine... technically very impressive but not much heart to it. I couldn't tell you much about them now, but I don't regret going. I probably wouldn't go again though unless someone else was paying.

I actually think the suggestion to watch as much as you can on YouTube isn't a bad one. If you like it, then go. A couple of my friends are big fans, but even they have said that not all the shows are as good as each other.

Parisj · 17/02/2023 20:11

I was captivated

Parisj · 17/02/2023 20:13

I have fancied going for ages, and I don't much like theatre generally but I really like the big group parts where everything is just working in amazing synchronicity. If you decide to enjoy it, you will of course.

Karatema · 17/02/2023 20:17

It's brilliant. I've seen 2 different ones live.

MorganSeventh · 17/02/2023 20:23

Also, I can see why it's expensive. The shows have scores of people in the cast, probably with relatively short performing lives, and the insurance bill must be astronomical. So I don't think it's bad value.

EmmaC78 · 17/02/2023 20:34

I loved it. I went to see the Michael Jackson show they did when I was in Vegas and it was easily the best part of a three week trip.

Blueberry40 · 17/02/2023 20:36

I was very underwhelmed when we went, it was something I had been looking forward to so much as well. Paid £££ for the best tickets and was sold a VIP package which was a complete rip off as the seats were awful- they had massively overbooked and everyone was packed ridiculously close together, I literally had to sit at an angle as couldn’t fit between DH and the person on the other side without having my breathing restricted. And it was difficult to see the performance- I’ve since watched it on YouTube and honestly found it a lot more enjoyable!

orchi · 17/02/2023 20:40

I've been a few times to the Cirque du Soleil show they do in Andorra every summer. It's only about £20 a ticket and it's always incredible. I haven't looked, but they might do the same show elsewhere for a similar price?

SingaporeSlinky · 17/02/2023 20:42

If you can afford, go! As they say, it’s usually the things you didn’t do that you regret. Watching on tv isn’t the same. I’ve seen 4 different ones and all amazing.

TiredandLate · 17/02/2023 20:42

I went last year and it was fantastic. The tickets were a gift but I would have happily paid £150.

kernowpicklepie · 17/02/2023 20:43

I saw their show "O" in Vegas and it was amazing! You definitely won't be disappointed

GingerAle1 · 17/02/2023 20:49

we were disappointed

it was an off night though, there were a few mishaps that left us gasping in horror, though luckily no one appeared injured and just carried on.

there was a strange atmosphere, I think it was the end of the run and they were exhausted. It was a while ago so not really high prices.
