Will.i be disappointed if I spend ££££ on Cirque de Solei?

I've had a hankering to go forever but it's always been so expensive, especially if you were looking at buying tickets for the family.

I'm considering buying myself a present and going alone for my birthday, but it's still a lot of money. Usually I only go to the theater on last minute tickets because I can't bring myself to spend the money for a full priced one.

If I spend c. £150 on one ticket, will I come away amazed or disappointed? I can afford it, it's not something I'd have to save specially for, but even so...

Seen two in vegas and they were decent nights out but nothing amazing - personally I wouldn’t pay those prices in U.K.

AllWorkYoPlait · 17/02/2023 22:57

The one I saw in Vegas was lacklustre.

The ones I've seen in London were great.

OP I’ve been to hundreds of live gigs, big & small in my life. Love festivals, theatre, opera, orchestra etc and I would say Cirque du Solei is a very good night out.

It’s a long time since I saw them but was fascinated by the human achievement - the gymnastics etc.

We saw Love in Vegas (the Beatles one) mainly because we thought we ought to see a cirque de soleil performance rather than because we particularly had an urge to.

it was amazing!! Both DH and I were captivated, couldn’t believe how much was going on. It was definitely worth it.

if you have been wanting to go for years then yes I definitely would.

280NeuerNamen · 17/02/2023 23:06

It probably helped that we went in fairly meh so weren’t over hyped first.

First couple of times I saw Cirque du Soleil shows I was absolutely blown away. Took DC last year to see Corteo and was distinctly underwhelmed

Ireallydohope · 18/02/2023 01:04

I've seen them at the Royal Albert Hall and we loved it

I got us great seats they weren't expensive but probably the best of the cheaper seats.

Ireallydohope · 18/02/2023 01:05

Definitely worth going once in your lifetime and the next show looks to be a great one

Dogsgottabone · 18/02/2023 01:10

If its something you'd enjoy then absolutely it will be worth it.

I went on a corporate jolly to cirque de soleil at battersea power station in the early 2000s and I remember being bored rigid.

On the other hand, 150 a seat for Hamilton and I wouldn't have to think twice.

Good well performed theatre that interests you is always worth it.

I saw the last one which was a clown one no idea what it was called. It was absolutely rubbish. Paid such a lot of money for the tickets as a birthday present. Put it this way people were getting up and leaving before the interval.

That’s the one I saw corteo . It was beyond rubbish and no decent storyline. No idea why they thought it would be good .

I saw the O show in Vegas. Massive arena - too big. Very expensive. Was okay. I would never book again and was so tired due to work and jet lag I slept through a part of it and wasn't bothered. It's very clever ... if you like a circus act.

Floralnomad · 18/02/2023 01:44

My daughter and I went to one at the Royal Albert Hall quite a few years ago mainly because she had seen one or two online and liked them and no it wasn’t worth the money IMO .

Changingmynameyetagain · 18/02/2023 01:44

DH and I saw Varekai and it was amazing, we were absolutely captivated.
I suppose it depends on the show, some of them look better than others.

greenspaces4peace · 18/02/2023 01:47

When they come to my town, it’s in a modified ice hockey arena. And possibly “less” of a show due to area never full etc.
But the skill set is impressive, I’d love to see it in a proper theater.

HanSB · 18/02/2023 01:56

The shows in Vegas are far better than the ones on tour in London - theatres designed and built for the shows, much more theatrical, huge talented casts. I wouldn't waste my money on the Kurios show currently on at RAH.

Unicorn2022 · 18/02/2023 02:37

I'm getting old and have seen a lot of amazing shows and this was a bit meh to me. Definitely not worth £150. I bought tickets from Twickets for less than face value, I think they were £75

GlassBunion · 18/02/2023 13:13

It really is well worth it and you'll remember it for many years later.
