Help! I’ve eaten an out of date lasagne

Just that really. I heated a M&S lasagne that I thought was dated 18th Feb. After I finished it I put the cardboard sleeve in the bin and noticed the date on it was the 13th! 3 days ago!!

It tasted completely fine. Please tell me I'm going to be ok.

You’ll be fine

TheSnowyOwl · 16/02/2023 22:21

I think you would have tasted straightaway if it wasn’t ok.

WednesdaysPlaits · 16/02/2023 22:21

Are you seriously asking this? How have you survived being a human for so long?

Haha yes!

I’ve lived this long because I don’t eat lasagne that’s 3 days past its use by date!

I do play fast and loose with dates generally, just not with ready meals.

If it didn't make you gag with every mouthful and you aren't already firing from the top end (don't say what time you ate it) then I think you'll at worst have a bit of a botty grumble tomorrow.

Hellocatshome · 16/02/2023 22:26

You will be fine even more so if you microwaved it.

SeemsSoUnfair · 16/02/2023 22:26

It is not just lasagne its M&S lasagne. So you'll be fine.

Asda, and you'd be done for.

ethermint · 16/02/2023 22:27

was it thoroughly heated through? to bubbling hot? you should be fine if so.

Viviennemary · 16/02/2023 22:27

It should be fine. I must say I dont really like eating out of date food. I might eat something 2 days out of date but thats it and dont even like doing that. M & S will be fine.

Whatdayisitalexa · 16/02/2023 22:27

Marks and Spencer always seem to be short dated in comparison to other supermarkets, I'm sure it will be fine especially if it tasted good. Aldi I would be a bit iffy about

RockinTheLockdown · 16/02/2023 22:28

I did microwave it. Totally lazy dinner tonight.

That’s what I’m hoping! 😂

Don't be daft. Of course you'll be fine.

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/02/2023 22:30

I'd be even less concerned about a ready meal than by freshly homemade.

You realise that your lasagne was probably made about 3 months ago? Another 3 days won't make any difference, it'll be packed to the plastic film with preservatives.

Jamieleecurtain · 16/02/2023 22:30

Best get your will sorted - just in case

mathanxiety · 16/02/2023 22:30

Was it in the freezer until you cooked it?

If yes, you'll be fine.

Changingplace · 16/02/2023 22:30

Ready meals are full of preservatives, three days is absolutely nothing of course you’ll be fine.

RockinTheLockdown · 16/02/2023 22:31

Yes, ‘‘twas properly nuked.

Mum2jenny · 16/02/2023 22:32

You’ll be fine, dates are just a guide (to be ignored imo)

Feliciacat · 16/02/2023 22:33

I appreciate your concern; I’ve had food poisoning and it’s awful. As others have said, the amount of preservatives and salt in a ready meal means a few days out of date will be fine. When I saw your thread title, I thought you were going to say it was a month out of date! 3 days will be ok, especially as it’s beef, not chicken. Try and get a cup of tea to calm down and I’m sure you’ll be fine :)

RockinTheLockdown · 16/02/2023 22:34

No, it was in the fridge.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 16/02/2023 22:35

It'll be fine. I used to make supermarket food.

Everything had to be tested and analysed to be perfectly fine and safe for at least 2 days longer than the date that gets printed on it.

You would have known if it was off, if it tasted fine it'll be fine.

TheWayItAllWouldGo · 16/02/2023 22:37

Nothing bad will happen. I honestly wouldn't even give it another thought, let alone worry about it.

I posted on here not long ago about eating bolognese made with mince that had been defrosted a day or 2 before.

I should be 6 feet under now the way some poster's were getting on.

RockinTheLockdown · 16/02/2023 22:41

I knew I could rely on MN to tell me to either pull myself together or prepare for the worst!

Thanks for the sound advice and for making me laugh!

danceyourselfdizzy1 · 16/02/2023 22:41

You'll be fine. The worst that will happen is a dose of the trots.
