Help! I’ve eaten an out of date lasagne

Just that really. I heated a M&S lasagne that I thought was dated 18th Feb. After I finished it I put the cardboard sleeve in the bin and noticed the date on it was the 13th! 3 days ago!!

It tasted completely fine. Please tell me I'm going to be ok.

It would have tasted weird if there was anything wrong with it. All fine.

Not necessarily.

E-coli won't make food taste off.

You'll survive.

Honestly, ready meal, you'll be fine. 3 days is nothing.

Moomoola · 16/02/2023 22:53

blimey that’s cheery.
mum used to wash slightly dubious smelling chicken in watery vinegar.
scrape mould off jam, cut mould off cheese.
we were all fine! You can safely keep food 3 days in the fridge apparantly. Even longer if it looks and tastes ok. And is nuked! Though you might start to glow.

demotedreally · 16/02/2023 23:01

I did that once.
I died.

catsonahottinroof · 16/02/2023 23:06

Beef will be fine and it's not that much over. Chicken or pork I might be a bit more dubious.

😱Sorry for your loss.

But, was it a M&S lasagne? I don't like victim blaming but if it was anything less you deserve all you got.

@RockinTheLockdown

Hello? Are you OK?

RockinTheLockdown · 17/02/2023 16:21

I survived, and thanks for asking! Not even so much as a rumbly tummy.

Hurrah!

With food poisoning, you usually know within half an hour to an hour.

Your gut will be stronger for it!

I saw a program about how they work out expiry dates and they put about 1-week leeway on them, before it actually started to go bad. It's all a bit of a con!

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 17/02/2023 17:06

M&S ready meals with bechamel sauce on the top go mouldy if you leave them too^^ long after their use by date. Just in case anyone is interested.

Of course they do, it amazes me that people think food has some foolproof way of telling time and reading a calendar

So much food waste because of a lack of common sense

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 17/02/2023 17:14

you should be ok

if not, dibs on your tv and any craft supplies 😉

Yup, you can have them, it's fine, but if there's a cute puppy or a teensy weensy kitten, I'll have those 😂

Glad you're OK OP, now you can unleash your inner daredevil! (I say this as someone who ate a tin of tomato soup that was 8 months out of date 😈. No ill effects whatsoever.)

Oblomov23 · 17/02/2023 17:28

And? It'll be fine.
