Spa Hotels In South East

Paul2023 · 15/02/2023 19:00

Hi all,

Later this year is my DWs 40th birthday. We’re looking at booking a hotel room for us, her parents and sister and brother in law.

Im paying for the three rooms as a treat.

Anyone recommend a Spa hotel in the south east of England- Kent/ Surrey/ Hants/ Berks that is within waking distance of a town, city?

Ive looked online and it’s a bit of a minefield!

Probably around £200 per room / couple.

Would be nice to have a town to walk to so we can have a few drinks and maybe a meal at.

Thanks

Grand harbour in Southampton?

NewIdeasToday · 15/02/2023 19:04

Carey’s Manor is good

LeandraDear · 15/02/2023 19:14

There's loads of great spa hotels BUT if want one in a town then you could try the Harbour at Guildford. I haven't stayed at this one but have at two others of theirs. Guildford is good shopping.

Any of the Harbour hotels (Southampton, Guildford, Brighton, Chichester). Spread Eagle in Midhurst, small town but still places to eat and drink.

TheChosenTwo · 15/02/2023 19:19

The harbour in Guildford is a bit shit these days (sorry!) and the shopping is going downhill drastically 😭

Southampton harbour is in a whole other league from Brighton. I’d definitely choose Southampton out of all the Harbour hotels.
Eastwell Manor is one to stay away from. We had a horrendous stay after they were taken over by Champneys and the manager could not have cared less.

Oh is it? That’s a shame, I haven’t been to stay but have been eyeing up their funfair afternoon tea! I think dd would like it. I do like the Southampton one though.

Pennyhill Park is lovely and you can probably walk into Bagshot, but I'm not sure it's got much to recommend it in terms of entertainment.
The restaurant in PHP is very good, have always eaten there when I've been and no complaints at all.

The Sir Christopher Wren hotel in Windsor might suit your requirements? Windsor is a very nice town. The hotel is situated in the centre but Windsor Great Park is a short walk away. Their current package is £205 per room and includes tickets to Windsor Castle.

feliciabirthgiver · 15/02/2023 19:30

Old Thorns in Hook maybe, not walkable to a town but a pub at the end of the lane as well asa couple of dining options within the hotel.

Paul2023 · 15/02/2023 19:47

Sadly the Christopher Wren hotel package is sold out for the dates we need !

Alexander house hotel has a lovely spa. I'm aiming for that for next big birthday

SirChristopherWren · 15/02/2023 20:05

That's a shame Paul 😫

Bluesclues1 · 15/02/2023 20:08

Personally I’d prioritise the spa hotel over the central location. Most good luxury hotels will be able to arrange transport for you to a local town.

  • Coworth Park, near Ascot. Part of the Dorchester collection. Amazing restaurants and lovely spa
  • Pennyhill Park
  • Limewood
  • Fairmont Windsor Park
  • Cliveden House

Winchester Hotel and Spa? I will confess I have never visited this hotel but it looks very nice online and in your price range. Winchester is a fab town (or is it a city?) to have a mooch around.

SirChristopherWren · 15/02/2023 20:13

Fab recommendations Blues but I would be very surprised if you could get a room at the Pennyhill Park or Cliveden on the OP's budget.

LlynTegid · 15/02/2023 20:13

A bit further away, the Ballantyne run hotel near Shepton Mallet would seem to fit the bill.

Oatsamazing · 15/02/2023 20:15

Careys Manor is lovely, it's a short walk to Brockenhurst in the New Forest

Bluesclues1 · 15/02/2023 20:16

Ah missed the budget bit, sorry! I usually don’t get past being a day visitor 😅

WrongOrRightMove · 15/02/2023 20:18

Another one to agree with @NewIdeasToday and @Oatsamazing - Carey’s Manor would fit the bill and budget. Lymington is near (ish) for a day out too.

SirChristopherWren · 15/02/2023 20:18

Blues 😁

I have been to Pennyhill and Cliveden as a day visitor too but never overnight. I will wait until my lottery numbers come good and then I will book a week at each 🤑

Out in the wilds though.

Throughabushbackwards · 15/02/2023 20:24

The Grove near Watford. Might be slightly above your budget, but they do post deals if you sign up to their mailing list.

Paul2023 · 15/02/2023 20:24

Sadly Carey’s manor is based on a two night stay for October ! I only want to do one night. Winchester is nice but my sister in law lives there so looking for somewhere new for everyone!

The rooms are so variable though. I had an amazing one friends less so.
