Are Specsavers still being ott with covid restrictions?

Has anyone been for an eye test at Specsavers recently? Are the (highly irritating, useless and a general pain in the arse) face masks and putting frames you've tried on in a tray shenanigans still ongoing?
TIA.

I went the other week and didn't have to wear a mask. Not sure about the frames in trays as I was collecting glasses.

daffodilandtulip · 13/02/2023 20:54

No mask but tray for the tried on pairs.

ReviewingTheSituation · 13/02/2023 20:59

No masks at ours, but the ridiculous frames-in-tray charade continues.
I must have tried over 25 pairs when I was choosing new ones. It's a farce.

Back to normal at ours

Beaverbridge · 13/02/2023 21:01

Yes the branch I was in had an over enthusiastic female racing about putting frames into trays that customers had tried on. Total farce.

southlondoner02 · 13/02/2023 21:02

Went to ours about 6 months ago - none of this and no mention of covid

Veryfaraway · 13/02/2023 21:02

Back to normal at ours, they said they're not bothering with the pre eye test covid questionnaire anymore and just left us to it to try on frames.

USaYwHatNow · 13/02/2023 21:03

Ours make you wear a mask, stand outside and wait to be called in, gel your hands and then stand at a distance.

Back to normal at ours

Same here. I was just there on Wednesday.

WhiteFire · 13/02/2023 21:12

Still have the trays and the annoying plastic screens in-between the waiting area seats which means hardly anyone can sit and you can't sit with your child.

LlynTegid · 13/02/2023 21:20

Other opticians are available if you think Specsavers policies are not for you. I avoid them for reasons which would be outing.

FrippEnos · 13/02/2023 21:22

not sure about the trays but all normal here

SavetheNHS · 13/02/2023 21:25

Optometrists have people breathing in their faces all day every day, please consider wearing one if they ask. If you don't want to, no problem, just find an alternative opticians.

Comedycook · 13/02/2023 21:29

I went last week...no masks needed but yes I had to put the glasses in a tray after I'd tried them. Ridiculous. I could easily try on twenty or more pars before I find ones I like.

Euchariahere · 13/02/2023 21:31

Yes still in ppe at my branch

SavetheNHS · 13/02/2023 21:32

It is a bit silly. Covid, flu and colds are spread via the air. Masks will help reduce transmission. However, I really don't think putting glasses in a tray will make the slightest bit of difference! It's ridiculous to keep persevering with the trays

BlueSeaWave · 13/02/2023 21:35

I love it 😂 Always cleaned glasses anyway before I tried them on and think masks will always stay and much more pleasant they dont have to hold their breath 3” from someone’s face.

frugalkitty · 13/02/2023 21:36

Ours is back to normal, no trays for glasses which makes life much easier

vivaespanaole · 13/02/2023 21:37

Lots of staff still wearing masks. But no other restrictions in the large branch in town last two times I have been in.

tinkerbellvspredator · 13/02/2023 21:38

Back to normal at ours, except the optician was wearing a mask.

BettaSplenden · 13/02/2023 21:41

Been to my local one today. Nothing in place. Back to being rammed in like sardines and no masks etc. Frames were supposed to be returned to the trays for cleaning but in reality everyone was just putting them back

EasilyDirected · 13/02/2023 21:42

My optician (not SS) was still doing masks a few weeks ago, rightly IMO. No trays but you can't put frames back on the racks till they have been cleaned but that's no bother, you hand them to the staff member who cleans them as you try the next pair.

MaverickGooseGoose · 13/02/2023 21:42

Normal at mine, has been for ages.

UserNameSameGame · 13/02/2023 21:45

I’ve got no problem at all waiting a mask during the test, but it was bloody impossible trying to chose my first ever pair of specs, and establish whether they suited me, or even if they fit me, while wearing a mask.

Pr0fessionalLurker · 13/02/2023 21:47

Went to our local one 3 weeks ago and there were still restrictions but went again a couple of days ago and they were all gone so suspect they are all phasing them out.
