Are Specsavers still being ott with covid restrictions?

Has anyone been for an eye test at Specsavers recently? Are the (highly irritating, useless and a general pain in the arse) face masks and putting frames you've tried on in a tray shenanigans still ongoing?
TIA.

All absolutely normal at our local specsavers.

Justmuddlingalong · 13/02/2023 23:16

Just asked DP, who had an outpatient appointment at the local hospital last week, what was the mask situation then.
The mask boxes and the hand sanitiser dispensers at the main doors were empty, and neither he, the other patients in the waiting room or the hcps were wearing masks.
So, I wonder why some opticians are still so rigid.

Stopped going there for this very reason!

Everything is back to normal in mine too, was there on Saturday and no trays or face masks.

Topseyt123 · 13/02/2023 23:42

Everything absolutely back to normal in ours and has been for a very long time. Many months, if not more than a year.

Ridiculous that this idiocy is still going on. It would put me right off.

Went to specsavers probably about 6 months ago, couldn't try glasses on with a mask and the faff of putting frames in a tray, what if I wanted to try them again? So I didn't bother, and I really wanted to change my frames, but the funniest thing was I went straight next door to tkmax where loads of people were trying on sunglasses as they pleased, it made no sense to me at the time.

DillDanding · 13/02/2023 23:49

I have and I’m pleased to say there were absolutely no silly restrictions still in place.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 13/02/2023 23:52

Having seen someone sneeze into their hand and continue on with trying on frames on Friday I’m really glad our optician (not specsavers) are continuing to wipe down frames before putting them back up.

People can be absolutely grim.

you can retry them though, they don’t mind you taking them back off the tray.

Cherryblossoms85 · 13/02/2023 23:54

I went to vision express about six months ago and I'm just not buying new frames until this bollocks stops. It's ridiculous.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 13/02/2023 23:56

No faceamsk at my local Specsavers, but they still have a reception desk thingy just nisde the door. Plus the tray for frames you've touched. I was trying to choose frames for very young DC who grabbed pretty much every pair in the kids section and quite a few of the adult ones too. That tray got pretty full!

You have to have your face a few inches from the people doing all the tests, so I find it reassuring to know that we are both masked in that situation. I use FFP2 masks which are much better than the surgical ones, and I like knowing I’m helping someone else not to get sick, especially people providing medical care, as when they are unwell, whether with cold, flu or covid, it means the rest of us wait longer to get treated.

Thank you, yes this is true. People wonder why there are such long waits in the NHS. One of the many reasons is staff sickness. Keeping staff healthy and at work is good for all of us.

Other opticians are available if you think Specsavers policies are not for you. I avoid them for reasons which would be outing.

Grin

Im sorry but… you are famously known for avoiding Specsavers?

I went the other week OP and no masks, no trays but the little screens have been left up. Which wasn’t a terrible ordeal tbf.

Don’t know love, boycotted it for this very reason. Honestly, it was fucking pathetic. Forcing old ladies to stand out in the cold in winter whilst they walked round pretending to be ICU doctors.

Same. Have transferred custom to Boots (as local independent didn't seem to want it). The swanning around in plastic aprons and making you wait outside a locked door while everyone else had abandoned their queuing and restrictions was ridiculous.

Whataplanker · 14/02/2023 08:44

My DD had an eye test in Specsavers on Saturday and I tried on some new glasses while we were in there. No restrictions at all, just like the old days.
